I am building a list of programs that users have created and are sharing with the community in each of the content creation "tips" forums. Along with the link for the thread they are in. One Linden has suggested they would be interested in passing it around to the other Lindens. Trying to drum up some support for the forums and give everyone a chance to see just what we really do here each and everyday. I will be looking myself but would hate it if I missed something and would appreciate any links posted here. Doesn't matter if they are new or old. For instance in Scripting Tips we have a LSLEditor, but we also have the older Scite-EZ and of course lslint.

For the single purpose of making sculpties, we have the wiki page to link to:
Sculpted Prims: Resident-made Tools Though it's likely that you, Jesse, already knew that. [edit] Oh, and come to think of it, the sticky thread already says that. (Sculpted Prim Tools & Tutorials) _____________________
If I said a thing ya don't understand, lemme know. I too love it when info is easy to read

[edit] Oh, and come to think of it, the sticky thread already says that. (Sculpted Prim Tools & Tutorials) Nope, unfortunately I keep my nose buried in scripts and this info helps. I'll be posting what I found here as I go like I did in Animation Tips. _____________________

Thanks for taking the initiative on this, Jesse. Anything that will help the Lindens see how important these forums are is much needed.
Here's a list of programs, utilities, and resources I can think of off hand that debuted on the forums, ad as far as I know use the forums as their primary distribution channel. Some of these are already listed prominently as stickies; some are not. I realize you may be concentrating on just actual programs, so you may end up ignoring the non-program stuff on this list, but I figure I should include it anyway, just in case. These are in no particular order. * OBJ Importer by Jeffrey Gomez * prims.Blender by Jeffrey Gomez * SL Clothes Previewer by Johan Durant * Simple GUI by Johan Durant for Eddy Stryker's .primscript sculpty importer/assembler * Chip Midnight's templates (which now have replaced LL's on the official Downloads page) * Robin Sojourner's templates (every bit as good as Chip's; combining the two makes for wonderful "super templates" ![]() * Chosen Few's guide to alpha channels & transparency * Avimator * Qavimator * Orion Nevile's avatar rig for Maya * Alexia Mechanique's BVH exporter for Maya * Adrien Eisenberg's (now Adrien Linden's) prims plugin for Maya (still waiting for that to be finished) * Robin Sojoutner's correctly setup avatar OBJ's for Photoshop CS3 Extended * And of course, thousands of tutorials and well-answered questions, which have in no small way helped to make SL the beautiful place that it is Those are the ones I can think of off hand. I'm sure I've probably done a few people an injustice or two by forgetting about their important contributions. If any of those people are reading this, sorry about that. Hopefully more people will reply to list whatever I've forgotten. Jesse, sorry about not posting links for all these. I hurt my back a few days ago, and I'm way too much pain to have the patience to search them all out. I hope this has been helpful anyway. _____________________

Thank you Chosen, sorry about your back and this was extremely helpful. Forgot to mention that I will be posting the tutorials and templates also.

This forum is where essentially all the discussion and support happens for the Wings 3D sculpty plugin.

I imagine these are already on the wiki page mentioned above, but there are a whole bunch of sculpty tools residents have made, not just the couple that have been mentioned thus far. Just off the top of my head (and I don't do stuff with sculpties, these are just threads that I recall seeing) there's Rokuro-whatever, Sculpty Paint, and the Blender exporter.

Another couple of building programs:
SL Prims for Max by WindyWeather Vanalten. It's a 3ds Max plugin that makes possible building in Max using SL prims. See post#17 of this thread: /8/ee/152139/1.html. Second Life Texture Calculator by Adrien Eisenberg/Adrien Linden. It calculates texture repeats and offsets. It can be found at: /109/bf/90527/1.html. See also post #24 in same thread for a Photoshop script by Candide LeMay that does the same thing. _____________________

I just thought of another one. Henshin is program for converting AutoCAD models into SL builds. I believe it was first introduced to the public via these forums, and its authors continue to use the forums to announce updates.

I don't see it mentioned, but Jeffery Gomez's Prim Mirror is a mainstay tool for many, including myself.

Ah, yes, Prim Mirror. Can't believe I forgot that one. I use it all the time.
Cadroe Murphy's Ring Maker, Shape Maker, and Lathe tools are more must-include items. _____________________

Seifert Surface and Lex Neva have also contributed some tools to the building community. I know these ...
Path Maker-Seifert Surface /54/78/92623/1.html Parametric Surface Rezzer-Seifert Surface /54/30/150639/1.html PipeMaker-Lex Neva (I've used this quite a few times) /54/cc/86676/1.html Rotate While Maintaining Scale-Lex Neva (I've used this too) /54/4f/116788/1.html ... but there's probably more. _____________________

Alrighty. I know this is an old thread but thanks to all who make these programs, and make them available. Lists like these help, as I find great tools that I didn't even know about.
As I research the whole idea of developing for SL I find forums like these, as well as tutorials and developer blogs, to be hugely helpful, so thanks also to the folks who go through the effort to freely share info in what is really a 'payware' world. |
