This is a proposal for a community located in the soon to be created sim.
This community will be based entirely around those interested in creating Flying Machines, Hot-Air Balloons, Jet Packs, Rockets, Planes, Helicopters, Transports, and anything else you can think of.
One of the goals for this community will be the creation of a large Air-Dock where group members may dock and display their creations. Group members are expected to contribute to the community with scripts, suggestions, building experience, and providing information and opportunities to those outside the community.
All are welcome to apply. If you have, or are interested in working on or creating an Air-Ship of some kind, then you are eligible for this community.
Please reply to this post or IM Goodwill Epoch in world if you are interested.

There should also be a large "retail" community on the sky dock, selling things that play along with the sky motif.

Definetly There will also be docks available for non-group members at a weekly or per visit rate. these will be very reasonable depending on the size and quality of the ship. We are also planning on having docks specifically for building and launching, as well as shops where people can come to either ask for a custom airship to be built or scripted, and also have modifications done to an existing one.

We do need a few more people who are interested in this project. Please post here if you are interested. If you have any questions about it please contact me. Another place to post any questions or ideas about this specific project is the zingbangboom.com forums provided by Nifty Yamamoto. Just check under the Second-Life Projects Heading. We also need a name for this group, personally my favorite so far is "The Guild"

Actually, the Air Dock will be fairly low, with some of it at ground level. We want this community to be accesible to all. There will be platforms such as my place located in the sky, but I have methods and ways of keeping the tax/rent on those place relatively low as well.

Yes, the higher you go, the higher the tax.

No, but a 10x10x0.250 block at 250m will cost you $90 in tax. I have noticed that linked objects apparently cost less in tax. 3 of those same blocks linked toghether apparently only cost $99 in tax. I don't know if this is to promote linking objects or a glitch, but linking them significantly lowers the tax (at least in the general tab of the object) One other thing that I do is I have written scripts that actually destroy all but a few main objects when no avatar is detected in the area, and then immidiately rezzes all those objects back once someone is detected. I have to make sure I have at least $700 in order to make sure that they all rez correctly.

Seeing as how the group I formerly belonged too dispanded itself without any warning whatsoever.. I am now free to roam the world of possibility. And since I know that my ship was a part of the spark that ignited this here flame.. I just may jump on board fellas'n'ladies. I wouldnt mind seeing how things play for a couple of days.. How much freedom will a "new guy" to the group have.. what kinds of things will he be required to do? Does each group member have a certain amont of money they must invest into a Airship themed object they create? I think these are important questions and should be adressed. each group member should know what is required of him/her before joining or else the airship community could become the airship gehto. Post'n let me know whats up with this? I wanna have a chance to meet the members if that is at all possible?!? whens the next group meeting? From: someone A ship is safe in the harbor, but thats not what ships are for now is it?

First!!! There must be the initiation rites!! Followed by the pit of Doom!!! Then the Hazing! Much Hazing! errmmmmm...... Actually the only requirement at this time is an interest in Air-ships and other flying things. And I think you qualify. The group name is Kazenojin, see if you can speak to Nifty Yamamoto IW to join. We may be having another group meeting this weekend to see how the member situation is going right now since we are in recruiting mode. Check our Forums located here for more info and a current member list.

For clarification according to the new post in the Annoucements area. Our group name is officially "Kazenojin". Tonight I will be opening up the group to open enrollment for any that are interested. There are no initiation fees or requirements at this time. Please speak to either Nifty Yamamoto, Realtime Rogers, or myself if you have any questions or wish to join. One thing I want you to be aware of is this: From: someone Haney Linden: Residents can only join one settlement group. We won’t consider the vote of anyone who is in more than settlement group. Meaning you can still join our group if you are in another settlement or group, but you may not be considered for the land purchasing in the new sim if that group or settlement is planning on expanding into the new sim as well. [edit] I just spoke with Haney Linden and he clarified things for me. If you are a member of more then one group or community that is expanding into the new sims, you FORGO all rights to purchase land in the new sim during the Private Settlement period.

Sounds like a good idea realtime, I assume most of the people in this group have some scripting ability so we should be able to come up with some freebees

You can only belong to one group that is involved in communitiy settlements unless the group you join doesn't get picked.

I think it only oppropriate to announce in this forum, that Goodwill, Nifty, and myself have come up with a plan for a event. It has already been posted on the calendar and will be visible there as well. We are hositing an event at Goodwills again, it is a Kazenojin Build Off... where each participant will have a certain amout of prims to build anything that the participant can think of in a certain amount of time.. For the full details on it go to the events forum. The reason I am posting is to see if any of you in the group can come up with some simple (but neato) give aways that people who drop by can use to play with to keep themselfs entertained. These can be small objects were the users can simply take a copy. Nothing serriously huge, I was thinkin sumthing like those cool helicopter hats you see at the fair... were there is a propeller spinning on top of a beanie or ballons or something neato. Post if ya have an idea, and Ill get to makin it if you dont fell you have the ablity to do it yourself From: someone The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes.

I think party favors would be awesome! I also wanted to mention to everyone in the group the some very "loose" details of our project. We have now, some very basic concept drawings of the structure(s) that we are working on. Over the next week we will be doing some more concrete drawings. We would like everyone in the group to take a look at them and give us some feedback. It would be nice to get some standard measures established so we can make sure everything will fit together. As soon as we get some drawings that make sense they will be posted at http://forum.zingbangboom.com. P.S. I wanna give a huge THANK YOU to Sia Sunchaser who made a sizable donation to our project.

I am very excited about this project. The wood model on display at Goodwill Epoch's is very impressive. For those of you who haven't seen it, it consists of a central hub that will be (guessing) about 75-100 meters across, and about 50 meters in the air. Projecting from the hub are eight horizontal docking pylons, at which airships can moor. The hub is supported by four massive posts that go almost all the way to the ground before merging into two giant supports, making the support superstructure reminiscent of helicopter landing struts. Between the supports there is a landing strip, right at ground level.
The hub itself is several stories tall. There is an attractive promenade set into the top level, which is covered by a vaulted skylight of green glass. The levels below? Just about anything could be placed here, really - shops, stages, residences, travel agencies, you name it. A large gondola is mounted to the bottom of the hub, offering a lower observation deck with a 360° view of the surrounding landscape.
I believe we could generate a fair amount of revenue by offering air tours of various locations in Second Life. For the same cost of going on one of the Teleport Tours alone, patrons can be flown around the world, in grand style, at speeds significantly faster than regular flying. And guess what? They get to see all the scenery along the way! We wouldn't use incredibly high speeds of course, since catapulting 8 avatars 150 meters into the next sim in a single frame could be a little harsh. (They wouldn't be able to see any of the passing landscape anyway.) A tour guide could point out interesting landmarks along the way, much as an airplane captain will often do.
