Plane Normals are inverted on export
08-23-2007 10:54
Omei,
First off, THANK YOU for all of your hard work on this project! I don't think I saw this mentioned anywhere, but I've been doing a lot of work with the 31 x 32 Plane template. I'm not sure if I was doing something wrong in my modelling, or if there's something odd in the way that Planes are exported, but I assumed that the 31 x 32 side of the model is where you'd build the model out, and that the bottom of the template is open end (similar to the ends of the cylinder template) Whenever I exported a plane object I noticed that the normals were being imported into SL inverted such that the model becomes displayed inside-out. I did a bit of messing around and found that if you selected the mesh faces and then performed a Flip X, this seemed to correct my issue. Is there something I'm doing wrong initially with the sculpting on this template? For now I've taken the basic plane template, flipped it and resaved it to be used as my new plane template. Thanks |

mesh size problems
08-24-2007 02:35
ok I finally got the plug in installed so I have experimented and everything I did I was unable to save for SL, I kept getting the message "unsupported mesh size"
So I took the quadrangleated taurus template and made some extrusions and colour changes, I did not add any faces or extras to the original mesh.. And still I was unable to save it due to "unsupported mesh size" how do you get around this one? Thanks Tazz |

Is there no UV Map for the advanced topology prims?

There should be. What makes you ask? Using Deep Paint, none appears as has in the past with spheres. I'm experimenting more, but its not quite the same... Edit: Trying to use this bit from a few pages back: 2) Automatic creation of UV maps during importing: When a sculpty is imported, the appropriate UV map is automatically created. You can then use Wings plus your favorite 2D paint program to texture your model. Forgot to resize to 64 at first. Got a mess. Resized to 64 for import and got a bigger mess. Don't think this feature works for planes yet? Edit 2: That 'bigger mess' actually ended up working so so alright, though I'm not sure how, as it appeared to have twice as many faces as it should have after importing... |

You're right Seph. I had forgotten, but the plane template lacks a UV map. The cylinder and torus have one.
I'l fix that. But in the meantime, you can export the plane as a sculpty at 32x32 resolution, and re-import it into Wings to create the UV map. It sounds like you tried exporting it at 128x128 and then scaling it down with a 2D graphics app before importing? That should have worked also, so you'll have to tell me more if you still think something is wrong there. Thanks for letting me know about the missing UV map. |

The export as 32x32 worked perfect (as opposed to my 2d app resize to 64x64). You work great magic ![]() |

The most common reason for not seeing Sculpties in the File/Export list is using version 0.98.32a by mistake. Try Help/About and double check that the version number is 0.98.36.

Hi all.
First i have to thank you for that great exporter. It works really well here ![]() One thing thought. I noticed that in the templates is an 31x31 plane. A plane is just what i need for my latest Project. Now only that this one has too many vetrexes for my needs. Is there a way to create a 16x16 one? And if yes .. how can it be done. I tried already different approaches to no avail. A sphere dosent fit my needs here as they cant be flattened to a rectangle. Many thanks in advance ![]() And please excuse my terrible english. Its only my second language |

Wings normally runs fine under Vista. My guess is that you need to update the drivers for your video card.

Probably because 0.98.36 uses the graphics card in new ways.
I have no way of being sure that upating your graphics card driver will resolve your problem. But from what I've seen on the Wings support forum, the symptoms you describe point to the graphics drivers. If this doesn't help, you're probably better off asking for help in the Wings forums -- http://p212.ezboard.com/bnendowingsmirai. |

Martias, the simplest way is probably to export the provided plane as a 32x32 sculpty bitmap, take it into your favorite 2D paint program, resize it to 16x16, and then import it back into Wings. When you import it, remember to change the default topology from sphere to plane, assuming you want just a flat surface. Many Thanks ![]() Just what i needed That worked like a charm |

More "unsupported mesh size"
09-04-2007 02:09
I'm trying my hand at scuplties, and I keep running into the "unsupported mesh size" obstacle when exporting. What I've been trying to make is a half-tube on a platform (tried both a quadrilateral and cylindrical platform). It doesn't seem to matter how many or few vertices I have in the object, I keep getting the same error message. What on earth am I doing wrong?

But I just added this Wiki section, so feel free to elaborate on it, or post again, if it doesn't adequately address your question.) |
