I'm probably gonna step into it here.. but here's two cents worth anyway.
Collaboration may require contribution by all participants, as someone said. Actually coming up with an idea is participating in a small way... and that may be all the person who begins a project and asks for help may be able to do.
I can't script. There, I said it. I can't. For the life of me, I have no idea why. I just can't. It takes me 2-4 hours... yes, I said HOURS, to get a sit/camera thing adjusted so it is a first person view rather than a 3rd person view.
I can't do Poser....so animations are essentially out for me - not only because I can't do it, but also because I don't have it and can't afford to purchase it. It's tha simple. I can't do it.
So, I wind up being a newbie who mucks around screwing up other people's scripts (free ones that are moddable) to the point where they don't work and I can never figure out why. I did Fortran, Cobol, various assemblers (from 8080 through some relativel sophisticated DEC stuff), too many Basics to remember, and wound up hitting a programming wall about the time that Bush the first took office. That was when C camme out I think.. or something just precursor to it. And my programming skills went downhill from there.
Now, LSL ain't C you might say... you're right. It's also not my thing.
So what could I - or the originator of this thread - offer? Not much in a collaboration according to some. Sure the "kid" seemed to ask for something without offering "something of equal value" in return. He might not know the worth of the script... or the difficulty in doing it up right... I didn't hear anything about 4 trick animations in the first post, for instance. Yet there are some assumptions made in this thread that have me concerned.... especially after a few positive things have recently happened for me (liek Cubey replacing a lost script without asking).
My point is this... though it's taken a while to get here. If you don't want to help, fine. Always an option. If you think the poster doesn't understand the extent of the difficulty/amount of work involved, that's cool too. If those are the cases, why berate the poster?
if on the other hand, you think it's a "gimme gimme" post/request.... why not ignore it? I can't count the number of posts I have thought twice about responding to... consult my "number of posts" number. You still have the option of educating the original poster- and others who just read the forums - about the considerations.... and guess what? You might drum up some business... if you wanted it... by your attitude. Being nasty in response doesn't help anyone.
Okay.. I am going back to my corner and fly the helo I have remade....

From: someone Originally posted by prak Curie The problem is not that this someone wants to work on an interesting project. It is that they want an interesting project done for them. To sell. I am all about collaboration and helping. I am not about working for someone for pratically nothing so they can sell what I made. This is what upset the people in this thread.

Here's a little analogy in reverse to sum up the original proposition. How would it be viewed if a teccie came up to a business type and said: "Look, I've got this great skateboard script, and I want to make a lot of money off it. So, I'm looking for a business type to come and make a skate park for me. I'll pay you L$200!!!" Now, how does that sound?

Um, just wanted to let you know, there's a skateboard in world for sale. Sharn McCoy sells it I believe, but my sister Gwinivere Grayson made animations for it. You might want to im Sharn.

sorry to bring an old thread to life, but I am looking for a full perm skateboard that I can put my own graphics on and resell. I'd be happy to pay a fair amount or work out a commission for the person who owns the board and script.

41 prims?! They've got to be kidding!!! Why the heck make something so simple out of sculpties if you're still going to take 41 prims to do it? You can't even make that damn skateboard MOVE without resorting to non-physical movement hacks! EDIT: Okay. I take back the part about moving. It might be an attachment rather than some kind of vehicle. But still, 41 prims even with sculpties is absolutely ridiculous for a skateboard.

It also doesn't say if it is really rideable with any animations. For that price I can make a blank to hang on the wall. I'm looking for something legit that I can work with.

So, start mining XStreetSL or Search in-world. Or try posting in the Products Wanted forum. You'll have better luck there.

From: oliver Prototype ave u heard carnildo. heh who wants to pay 150 usd. i hope that was a joke mate.... For a custom vehicle script, including custom animations, US$150 seems like a reasonable figure.

I bet you can eliminate most of those prims with a little careful work. Looking at the pictures I can't imagine it requiring more than 9 prims, 17 if you go hog wild on the screws.

I've noticed a disturbing trend - it's as if people think that more prims used makes things more valuable.
