You post that as if 200L was a lot of money. I make more money than that by letting my account sit around unused.
I do custom scripting for people and so do many people in this forum, but you need to add a zero or two to that amount before you are taken seriously :)
200L doesnt even buy me a bus ticket.

A good skateboard script would require some custom animations for tricks and research into the best way for the user to initiate those tricks, in addition to the normal vehicle performace tuning.

I'll do it for L$27,000 or US$150.

WHY?! "Please give up a number of working hours writing a script and creating some custom animations for free so that someone else can profit from them for eternity"

Oh wait. You're the same oliver who can't be bothered to write one additional line into your airplane script and wants someone to post you the exact code so you don't have to do any work, right? nuff said.

What? You've obviously got the time, you play SL. Don't be so mean and greedy.

Hey Alex, I can help you get the skateboard scripted, and maybe do some basic tricks for "Free". We will just have to find someone that can make the animations. I am going to buy Poser to make animations just dont know when!! Contact me In-world and Ill help If I can, I want to skateboard too ever since I started this game :)

hey alex :) im not really sure cause i can barely script, but i bet you could tweak the hoverboard script a bit, and it already has a crappy trick programmed into it! the anim is already there for sure

A good skateboard script is a non-trivial job. Being offered L$200 and two skateboards is downright insulting.

My best estimate is an hour per animation. That's eleven hours for a basic set of animations (get on, accelerate, stand, steer left, steer right, brake, get off, plus four tricks). It'll take longer if the weather around here continues to be cold and rainy, since then the kids won't be skateboarding in the parking lot across the street and I'll have to look further for models for the animations. Since I'm using an old verison of Poser, add in another hour to write a converter to make the .bvh files compatible with SecondLife.

Scripting: I can drop in my Lunar Rover script, tweak things a bit, and get a basic moving skateboard in about 15 minutes. But it'll suffer from the same "lunar gravity" problems the rover does, won't have any animation support, and won't turn like a skateboard. Figure another two hours to fine-tune the physics, another hour to get the steering right, and two hours per trick.

Total time: 22 hours.
Double that to cover unexpected problems, and I figure that a skateboard script will run me about 45 hours, or one work week. That's about a month and a half worth of free time. If you want the script in anything less than that, you'll have to pay me to give up some of my other activities.

Note that $150 for 45 hours is far below my normal wage. If this was a consulting project, I'd be charging over $2000.

I'm guessing, that for the price offered, he isn't looking for a good skateboard script. :)

But us scripting types really *should* offer up our 'loads of free time' and stop being 'greedy' Carnildo. After all, they've put forward such a compelling argument for it.... really won me over with their accusations of scamming, joking, being greedy and saying we should use our free time for their profit. Yup. I SO want to help!

Oh, and oliver, as for 'CANT DO IT FULL STOP'... learn. Just like the rest of us did. Do you think we came inworld with an inbuilt natural ability to script in LSL? But why go to Scripting 101 when you can just ask someone else to do all your work for you for free, right?

Maybe you should stop trying to help Alex, too? It doesnt seem like you're helping much.

If he wants something cheap, he can find one of my Lunar Rovers and copy out the script. I've set my basic vehicle scripts as "free to copy" to help people get started in vehicle scripting. Of course, that means he'll get a skateboard that handles like a rover, but what do you expect for something free? :)

You didn't answer me oliver, and I see you've posted in other threads, so you've probably read this. I will devote weeks and weeks of time and effort to making a really great skateboarding script for Alex if you will clean my apartment. Will you? You've got time and the ability, are you one of the greedy people in this forum or aren't you?

Contact me in world Alex Parks. I'll help ya as much as I can .. my poser ability isn't the best (yet) , so I may have to play around with the animations. But I'd love to have a skateboard myself. could even make a skate park lol.

I don't need any of your money. SL isn't a business to me or a way to make money from my fellow SLers. I have a RL job and remember a time when people were cool with each other , even if it took up some of their valuable free time. If It takes 45 hours to complete the project so be it. I'm sure the end result will be cool.

You know, way back in the day... almost a WHOLE year ago... SL was a different place, people would do thing called collaboration. Essentially what this ancient ritual involves is multiple people interested in a common goal, for instance a scripted skateboard, would come together and work on various elements of the project together... and here's the really interesting part, they would do it for FREE... no seriously.
They would actually work together for the sake fo a common goal for free and for the fun and the accomplishment involved. Ahhh those were the days.

Listen, you want any help with texturing, animating, modelling or even my modest scripting ability please IM me in world I would be more than happy to help everyone in SL be able to bust a 360 nosebone over the drop in, and Ill do it for free.

[preachy rant]
This kind of thread abusing someone who wants to work on an interesting project is exactly the kind of garbage attitude thats ruining a lot of the things that made SL what it is.

The problem is not that this someone wants to work on an interesting project. It is that they want an interesting project done for them.

Collaboration requires that others contribute something of value as well. Ideally something of equivalent value. What is it exactly that the original poster is offering that is worth the work involved in scripting the skateboard?
