THIS IS THE FORUM THREAD FOR DISCUSSION OF RC2!
[NOTE: I will be reading and checking this Thread once on Thursday and once on Friday 12-Sept. When RC3 is released, this thread will be closed. Also, due to time constraints, I cannot promise to respond to other threads. -Ramzi Linden]

* * *

We are releasing the third iteration of the new Viewer 1.21 Release Candidate (RC2). Please help us to identify new bugs (and try out the new features) before it becomes an official download for Second Life.

If you have already been using the Release Candidate (RC0 or RC1), you will now be required to update to RC2 with the latest bug fixes. But, participating in the Release Candidate viewers is completely optional. You may install this viewer side-by-side with the official 1.20 viewer that you normally use.

We have addressed some of the bugs that appeared in earlier iterations, but not all bugs you have reported. A complete list of fixes for RC2 is available in the Full release notes page:
https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Release_Notes/Second_Life_Release_Candidate/1.21

NOTE: We have solved the crash problem with a Mac PowerPC processor. Therefore we have returned to our normal process to require an upgrade from the previous RC1.

Please visit the Test Viewers page to download the 1.21 RC2 viewer, or when your Release Candidate viewer prompts you to upgrade to the new version.
http://secondlife.com/support/downloads.php#download-Testviewers

Be sure to report new issues at jira.secondlife.com and set the "Affects Version/s" to "1.21 Release Candidate."

We have already recognized there was a known Bug with RC1, so it did not warn you about the "New Version is Available." However, it did warn you once you tried to log in to RC0 or RC1. Sorry for this abrupt notification! It doesn't feel quite so polite :(

We have fixed that bug, so once you are using RC2, you will again be sure to get notification on the startup screen like normal.

how long has RC1 been out? I was never prompted to upgrade from RC0, I'm glad I checked the forums.

Hi Saiki- yes, it was unfortunate that we discovered a bug in RC0 and RC1 where it would not notify you of the optional upgrade to the next version. But this is fixed now in RC2. So, once you are using RC2, you can be assured the startup screen will tell you about upgrades in the future!

Gestures List
09-11-2008 12:10
Tried replying to this thread and when I clicked Submit Reply got page cannot be found. Okay, seems to be working now!!! Was going to say that Gestures are odd. When u open the Gestures list from Chat Bar at first they are all in reverse alphabetical order which is fine. Use one or two gestures and the list loses any order and becomes a jumbled mess. Could do with fixing after the important things:)))

ok, noted, I'll just blame you if it doesn't :) and um... I noticed that SP1 on vista is still having upload bugs. this affects all versions 19.x - 21.2 I was wondering if anyone's looked into it?

Problem #1: It reset my graphics settings, kinda annoying.
Problem #2: New tab-activity colours, the orange ones..
should be made optional, annoying.

Problem #3: New text colours, make text-colour settings selectable like skins and bring back the default ones as a selectable option please pretty please?..
[edit]: nm, only self text and error text seem to have been changed, changed em back.

Otherwise.. works fine so far! *crosses fingers*

Andromeda- that should not have happened. My apologies if it did: But as long as you are online with an earlier RC iteration, there is nothing in our viewer to force you to upgrade at that very moment. The enforcement mechanism is only triggered as you try to log in to an outdated (earlier) iteration. You should file this as a true bug in JIRA, and we could investigate. Tell us (in JIRA) what exactly was the error message that forced you to get kicked off?

I was using the old RC viewer because the latest version of the regular view still gives me particle clouds ... and n ow you have forced me to use a new viewer that by your own admission is designed to crash ... and believe me it does with unerring frequency ... what's left for me to use?

PS dont think much of the new chat colors, the blue is hard to see

Hi Flaran-

Sounds like you ran into:
VWR-9049: Gestures are not sorted in local chat gesture shortcut or chat bar shortcut

This has been imported and should be fixed for the next RC.

New issue: rightclick/profile does not work when the avatar whose profile
you're trying to view is far away (let's say you're alt+leftmouse exploring, etc).

Not sure if the avatar has to be in chatrange for it to work or maybe simply a bit closer.

p.s.: previous rc (not sure of the version number by now) ran perfectly for me,
forced updates are starting to get kind of... tiring, seriously guys, scrap the 'forced'
thing with updates unless it's something major.

Hi Vaalith- can you report this in jira.secondlife.com? We wont be able to investigate unless you file a bug report.

Vaalith, I appreciate the frustration on the extra download step. However, the logic of 'forcing' an upgrade to the latest Release Candidate is so that everyone is testing and giving us feedback on the most current state of the viewer. Imagine how confusing it would be if residents keep reporting a bug from 2 versions ago, when in fact it may be already fixed in the latest RC. We want everyone who uses the Release Candidate to be comparing and verifying the bugs that are improving each step. We really do appreciate the mild pain that the RC goes through!! The end result is a MUCH better 1.21 viewer when we think its ready for primetime, for everybody.

Arrrgh how could this happen?
09-11-2008 18:38
There was a bug with previous viewers, all through the RC1.20.x range and also in the final release version of 1.20 ....SpaceNavigator mouse users could not close an 'Edit' window while in 'Flycam' mode as it would cause the camera to boomerang off up into the air 100's of Metres, plus make the avatar fly. This was supposed to be fixed in the 1.21.x releases. (JIRA VWR-7592)

Now with the 1.21 viewers....if I am in 'Flycam' mode and I right click an item and choose 'Edit' the camera now boomerangs off miles into the blue unknown. There is no way I can edit an item unless I come away from 'Flycam' mode.

Come on guys, we waited months for you to fix the problem of the camera boomeranging out when closing edit windows while in 'Flycam' mode.... Now you've fixed that, but you have created the exact opposite bug of the camera boomeranging out when we open edit windows while in 'Flycam' mode.

This is so annoying and almost a complete showstopper for SpaceNavigator users. (JIRA VWR-8934) Fix it please !!

Hi Loosey,
Thanks for highlighting this and that it is in the Issue Tracker. This may be an error that was introduced in the merging/branching of our code, since as you point out it did have the opposite fix in this version. We'll investigate!

Hey Ramzi- Not really a bug, but a suggestion that could be nice for people reading the forums, maybe post, or have someone post the release notes in this thread, rather then having to go over to the Wiki...It's a little thing, but I think users might like it b(o.o)d (I know I would)

New Viewer

What happened to the FLY button on the on screen movement controls.. it's gone! and can u put it back.. thinking it was harmless before! And i don't like the fly button inactive when u are sitting.. if you were caming while sitting. hitting fly brought you back to your avatar. Neither of the changes u made were hurting anything before.. so i have to ask why did ya mess with them?

When in zoom, hair and other attachments disappear
09-12-2008 03:20
I've downloaded the new RC, and the problem is when i zoom in on my avatar my hair and some of my attachments seem to disappear. When I zoom out again, they re-appear. It's very hard to make nice pictures with this RC, bald and partly naked...

Can this be fixed ASAP please????

(JIRA VWR-8920)

Kind Regards
