We are releasing the fifth iteration of the Viewer 1.22 Release Candidate (RC4). Please help us to identify any new bugs before it becomes an official download for Second Life.
If you have already been using the Release Candidate (RC3), you will now be required to update to RC4 with the latest bug fixes. But, participating in the Release Candidate viewers is completely optional. You may install this viewer side-by-side with the official 1.21 viewer that you normally use.
In RC4, we have repaired some of the regression bugs you reported in the Issue Tracker. For a complete list, please see the Release Notes: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Release_Notes/Second_Life_Release_Candidate/1.22
We still need your help to find crash cases and other feedback! Please visit the Test Viewers page to download the 1.22 RC4 viewer: http://secondlife.com/support/downloads.php#download-Testviewers
* * *
Be sure to report new issues at jira.secondlife.com and set the "Affects Version/s" to "1.22 Release Candidate." We can only investigate and solve issues that are reported there.

I seem to have a bug that causes my mouse cursor to freeze resulting in a manual reboot. It happens when I am editing the contents of an object and move my cursor over to my open inventory window to drag anything into the object. As soon as my cursor gets into the inventory window it freezes. I've crashed many times because of this in RC3. Is this related to anything else going on?

Hi DR, This was from your post in the RC3 thread. Could you point me to the specific bug # in the Issue Tracker? From: DR Dahlgren Opening Texture window or second inventory window cause long delay or possible crash in clients 1.21 forward. I do not see this being worked on according to the JIRA though it shows assigned. I have not seen any responce to my posts here on this either. It has a very negative effect on the ability to create things and use your inventory. It does appear to be related to inventory searching though as I notice if my inventory has not fully loaded, opening the second window completely hangs the client.

Yeah, apologies that we broke that. Apparently it was a weird bug where the scroll bar was hoarding the focus, so that Hover Tips would never kick in. From: Ruthven Willenov lol, right, i thought there was some setting i couldn't find to turn that back on.

I am still having major issues trying to right click a prim being worn. If it is small and or close to the body, it is almost impossible to right click it. Seems to be related to http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-10460

From: Ramzi Linden Hi DR, This was from your post in the RC3 thread. Could you point me to the specific bug # in the Issue Tracker? I think that's http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-8818 . Jopsy has an interesting comment towards the end, BTW.. From: Mr Particle This doesn't appear to be inventory related. (I have 17,000 items in inventory btw).
The "Freeze" duration I experience seems directly linked to the number of textures in use near my avatar. If I'm near a shopping mall, the delay can be 40 seconds. If I drop draw distance to 64 and am in a relatively empty area, the delay vanishes.

Can't edit prims close to body.
12-18-2008 12:42
From: DoC Eldritch I am still having major issues trying to right click a prim being worn. If it is small and or close to the body, it is almost impossible to right click it. Seems to be related to http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-10460I second that!!!!! This is VERY ANNOYING. As a model I am constantly having to adjust worn objects and it is essentially impossible to do so. I almost always use the RC viewer as my primary viewer, but this bug negates that possibility for me. I also am still waiting for the bug causing the alt-cam being focused 1 m in front of the AV instead of on the AV to be fixed (VWR-8814).

I third the prims close to my body problem. I have to "edit" my hair and then grab, can't just grab. Soooo annoying.
I actually found 2 iterations ago to be more stable, I just crashed for no reason I can see.

Issues with working from inventory
12-18-2008 16:39
I'm having basically the same issues as Zena Juran is having. They appeared in 1.22 RC3 and continue in this version. I'm really not sure what's causing it but I plan to continue using the new RC since everything else seems to be working fine for me and I dont always crash when I'm playing in inventory lol

Hi Monica, hi Eras, hi DoC. Thanks for highlighting this (prims close to your av body). We are re-visiting the current implementation of http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-10460 This is caused by the new calculation method for determining what is under your cursor. It's new in 1.22 and helps performance considerably. (In the old viewers, the picking calculation was very intensive every frame in order to determine a pixel-perfect placement of what you clicked.) So our new method has some limitations and that is what we are trying to address in VWR-10460. Are you trying to edit the prims close to your body, and that is what is frustrating? (The current behavior is, you need to go into Edit mode first, so that the calculation pays more attention to which prim you are clicking on.) Or are you simply trying to select & drag the prim around (not editing it at all)? Please let us know more feedback on VWR_10460. From: Eras Felwitch I third the prims close to my body problem. I have to "edit" my hair and then grab, can't just grab. Soooo annoying.

question for those with small prim edit troubles. does zooming in with(i forget which) ctrl-0 or alt-0 ease the problem?

From: Ramzi Linden So our new method has some limitations and that is what we are trying to address in VWR-10460. Are you trying to edit the prims close to your body, and that is what is frustrating? No, we're trying to click on scripted prims. You can't use the "touch" menu item in edit mode on attachments, so we NEED to be able to click on them, not just edit them. How about an option to turn on the old picking mode?

Mis-Picking
12-19-2008 04:44
Was there another change made to 'Picking' with this release? I'm working in my usual way, alt-clicking to move my cam around and it's mis-clicking repeatedly and sending my cam half-across the sim! It could just be that I'm having a clumsy moment but I don't think so. I'm usually pretty adept with my cam and it's annoying when it flails around out-of-control...

There was a big change made with picking that has big dramatic effects because it makes picking less accurate.

From: Argent Stonecutter There was a big change made... I knew there was a switch to 'raycast' made with RC0, but that worked OK for me - but this version RC4 suddenly seems much worse - did something else get changed with RC4? The movement and orientation tools in SL are so weak anyway that any change like this is extra painful.

I don't know, I've been having picking problems with all the RCs. I'm not sure how optimizing what happens after you click the mouse is supposed to get a big performance improvement anyway. Yeh, optimize all the "hover" stuff, but when you click you need to switch to precise targeting to see where you click.

I uninstalled RC3 last week, and it promptly proceeded to delete all my logs, saved in the default log directory since more than 1.5 years back. This is a huge loss for me. It also deleted all the settings, both for the RC and the main client. Is this supposed to happen? Is there a Jira I could vote for to have this behavior fixed?

Hello Ramzi,
A prim which is attached, that is close to your body and or partially embedded, is impossible to select using right click. This applies whether you are attempting to edit or move. It seems the closer or the further embedded the attached prim is to the avatar mesh, the harder it is to right click and select it.
An example would be to create a ball 0.2 x0.2 x0.2 Attach that ball to your spine. That ball is now outside of the avatar mesh and can be easily selected by right clicking. Now move/drag that ball while attached to your spine and embed it 3/4 into your avatar back between your shoulder blades. So now you only have a small portion of the ball surface visible. Click off of the ball. Now try and right click to select that ball again. You can't grab it.
Understanding this may be a new calculation method to improve performance. Unless the above example is somehow corrected within the new method, I don't believe the performance gain will outweigh the frustration or backlash this may cause. Simply put, even if this gain allows a sim, user and data bases ect. to run at 100% under full load. It isn't going to be worth it to the users to loose this function.
*edit* I now see that "if" you click on a larger prim to get into build/edit mode you can then select the prim. However, I still see this as a big issue. People are going to consider this a "work around" to an issue and not a improvement.

Your drive could die at any time. If that stuff matters I strongly recommend backups. I realize that this is a bit late, and I'm not suggesting that bug be left unfixed, but... heads up. You may want to create a new JIRA about this if you can't find one.

What the heck!!! I've been using the official viewer because I've been having so many problems with the 1.22 RC's, but I still had 1.22 RC3 installed. So, just out of curiosity I guess, I downloaded RC4 and uninstalled RC3. Went to log on using the official viewer, NOT RC4, and found that uninstalling RC3 had cleared all my settings. This is the main reason I will not try the 1.22 RC's though in the past I've found the RC's to often be an improvement on the official viewer. Could I please have an explanation as to why the 1.22 RC's are not keeping separate Preferences and deleting existing Preferences when uninstalled.
