Alt-clicking on AV doesn't stick, it seems to want to zoom to the head or waste, so taking portrait pictures etc is a pain

and they've completely scrambled the right click menus.

And this too!!!! grrrrrr

Turned on shadows and the RC borked my graphics card (nVidia 8800 Ultra 768) and I had to reboot.

if you are using VISTA turn off the Vista theme (yeah looks like windows 95 :s )

The menu change with attachments will take some getting used to, but it's actually a good thing. To get to the avatar pie menu on yourself, you used to have to find a part of your avatar that wasn't covered by prims. Since these days most people wear at least prim hair, and may have skirts, jackets, etc. along with that, it really got in the way of more than a just a few people with all-prim avatars. The mouse-down on the avatar feature that lets you steer and turn the camera is also way easier to use now.

You have forgot again about the DECIMAL SYMBOL parsing the xml configs.

*If your locale is set to use a comma "," as decimal separator (ie: Italian) then the client will crash loading the skeleton infos because it doesn't recognize the "x.xxxxx" as decimal values.*

The client will start if you set "." as decimal separator (in windows control panel > Numbers > Decimal symbol: ".";).

(the clients until now used a "hack" switching the decimal sign internally... prolly they forgot it out of this brach... damn!).

Yeah but what if you're already set to US and already HAVE the "." as your decimal seperator? My client still crashes upon login.....weird....

EDIT: I should comment that I have used RC's consistently since I came into SL with very little problems until now....am age verified so I don't know why I'm all of a sudden having issues with this one release....

This is true... I remember often trying to get to my profile or groups and accidentally detaching my hair... lol

My virus scanner identify "update.exe" as malware. The release themself freeze everytime during login.

One other nice effect with the pie menu change is that it's now possible to touch HUD attachments in edit mode. Click and hold isn't there, but it's still a major win.

I'm staying on 1.22 until 1.24 or later, since 1.23 will break the megaprim avatar hiding hack but won't have alpha skins yet.

/me facepalms.

Thanks for misleading me, LL. Getting BigPapi to admit the timeframe was good, but I was under the impression that alpha masking would be done in 1.23.

...I kinda wish BigPapi had office hours on the Main Grid, instead of just the Teen Grid.

Pffft. Okay. I hereby report the entire RC 1.23 as one big bug.

The 1.23 for the mac is actually working quite well.

Yes, I'm getting the thing where some textures are forgotten on some objects when turning around, but rebaking fixes it.

Having the edit on the next pie screen for the avatar is a little odd to get used to, but edit is still on the first pie for non-avatar editing, so I'll deal.

As for my avatar, I'm not getting the odd skin problems others are getting, but I don't do complex skins, but that's probably why.

One thing I'm happy with it doesn't seem to be running my GPU as hot. I can run in the full screen with the recommended settings (HIGH) and it's ok. Sure it's still hotter than I'd like, but I can live with it.

The last RC worked for the most part
05-01-2009 01:29
I again ask do you people keep notes or do you just shoot from the hip.

The first thing that happened after instal is that the splash screen would pop just fine then a log in and nothing just quit and leave. After uninstalling and reloading all seemed to work. Well until I got into the meat of the viewer.

General tab of the prefs is missing several line items one of which is the no top bar search, worthless ar best.

I make skins and now they are skelator skins as there is a problem with both the texture application and alpha white lips are now mauve the face and body go alpha as they please etc

This problem also carry's over to toys we build that call an alpha texture when not in use they no longer go alpha and just hang around as clutter.

This has been one of the poorest releases in a year.

Yes it is a release candidate but it is a degradation from the last release one could expect better after all this time

BTW I will offer no more suggestions on this version as it has been removed from my machines and thats a first I have never killed an RC before

There is nothing wrong with patches and issues being fixed. What however is wrong how this new viewer is pushed out now.

Sure, it is a RC. But RC means features are fixed and only finetuning and final bug fixes to make those defined features working are applied.

In this case LL is not even sure what features they want to implement and how. Worst one the Adult policy that is still a moving unclear target. Both on viewer and server side (someone followed the shuffled search results appearing?). Http-texture and Render-pipeline branch were just merged a couple of days ago and there was absolutely no time to make them working properly as we all see. Some functionality, means code pieces, were cut out, other added. Testing or what LL always hides behind...QA? *laughs*

You don't develop software like this. It's worse than spaghetti code and all will suffer from it.

Hmm...no actually not....it's just that. Bad pasta.

(my) 1.23.RC0 Jiras so far, to read, comment and vote on:

VWR-13110 - Lighting > Only 2 lights visible when "Basic Shaders" are active.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
VWR-6116 is back, and worse than ever. Just like 6116, it's not going to affect everyone, but people with videocards "on the border line" are going to have to take a serious performance hit if this one can't be solved.

http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-13110
http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-13110
http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-13110

---

VWR-13118 - Spam > llInstantMessage Objects can easily hide from "IM source disclosure link"
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This one REALLY needs votes people. If LL is going to implement a "security feature" they can't have a glaring hole in it that any first-year scripter can drive a truck through. No half measures.

https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-13118
https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-13118
https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-13118

---

VWR-13120 - Camera > Please add (return) method of adjusting camera physics.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
And this is just a truckload of complaints waiting to happen. SOMEONE thought it would be a good idea to sacrifice "customization" to make the interface easier to use. Sparse and concise are not the same thing. Some people actually NEED these camera controls. Let's get them put back.

That option is now in the Advance menu somewhere (so I'm told).

Well as many of us know this rc introduce the new mature content stuff (look at preference->general->rating... for now it is the only thing i can see becouse to me this rc only crash when i try a login).
We know that linden is in an hurry becouse they wanna move all the mature stuff in the "ghetto island" as soon is possible. This mean that they have to introduce this changes also in the offiicial viewer.
So from my point of view we have many reasons to be worry and all this moaning have sense becouse soon we will have for sure many troubles in the official viewer as it happen before with the big changes of linden :)

Ok here are my problems......... constant flickering of the screen, my AVs eyelashes are yellow, Half my skins are missing the face, cronically slow. Why have you changed the pie menu, it was fine as it was. Ok i know this is an RC but I have always found SL to be more stable for me on the RC viewer then the main. I run SL on a Dell PC

This is horrible for clothes makers or skin makers..last night I constantly clicked on where edit SHOULD be in the pie menu, which has now become appearance..sighs..i agree..the pie menu should stay as it is..you get used to something, it's like torturing Helen Keller by moving around the furniture..
2nd, i couldnt take pictures of clothes if I took off and article of clothing. Id become invisible..

Hmmm, that's odd, I like to look at myself too and alt-click zoom is working fine here. I love the upgrade to the chat area.. not having it all spill in a jumble. Adding the prim count on an object in the header thingie on the build menu is handy too... no more flipping back to the first page to make sure you got it all. The only real gripe I've noticed were the horrid eyebrows (I fixed quickly with Calla's bald under wig thing) and my eye makeup, it isn't horrid just not as pretty as it was. Some very expensive no mod skins are grotesque with this viewer tho. I made my own skin but I'm not going to edit it to fix the prob 'cause SL will have to correct it on their end surely, or there will be blood running in the streets!

P.S. I'm still using it (123), the chat improvement is so nice

Unnecessary damage control that could have been so easily avoided.

But the best is the lame excuse here:
https://blogs.secondlife.com/community/technology/release/blog/2009/04/29/viewer-123-rc0-now-available

From: someone
As the result of scattered reports of anti-virus program alerts triggered by 1.23 RC0 (Windows only), we have temporarily disabled further downloads of this release. We are actively investigating these reports and will provide an update soon. In the meantime, 1.22 RC11 has been re-enabled as the current Release Candidate viewer.

We are grateful to the residents who have brought this issue to our attention.

Thank you!

Of course LL did not make any other mistake than be a "victim" of a likely false positive. What a joke.

Fact is: LL was aware of the virus/trojan in the 1.23 public nightly (as of 26 April) days before the RC0 was put out for download. Meaning putting everybody knowingly on risk for several days. And to use that *now* as excuse to pull it again?!

http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/vwr-13002

Something must be very very wrong in the Lab.
