We are releasing the sixth iteration of the Viewer 1.22 Release Candidate (RC5). Please help us to identify any new bugs before it becomes an official download for Second Life.

If you have already been using the Release Candidate (RC4), you will now be required to update to RC5 with the latest bug fixes. But, participating in the Release Candidate viewers is completely optional. You may install this viewer side-by-side with the official 1.21 viewer that you normally use.

In RC5, we have repaired most of the problems you reported with "picking" the correct object under your cursor inworld. For example, you can now Edit or Touch items that are attached very close to your avatar, such as a scripted necklace. We have also solved problems with properly clicking on HUDs. This RC5 iteration also includes stability fixes to prevent common crashes. For a complete list, please see the release notes:
http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Release_Notes/Second_Life_Release_Candidate/1.22

We still need your help to find crash cases with RC5 and final feedback as we prepare to release an official 1.22 viewer soon! Please download the Release Candidate here to experiment with it:
http://secondlife.com/support/downloads.php#download-Testviewers

Be sure to report new issues at jira.secondlife.com and set the “Affects Version/s” to “1.22 Release Candidate”. We can only investigate bugs that are reported there!

http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-7334 New "Cloud-ruth" avatar does not show with zero particle count or when particles are turned off.

Is it impossible to just bring back the old ruth? That is how you make the ruth visible without there being particles...It was fine the way it was, and pretty much anything else is ugly or invisible (uglier then the old ruth).

http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-9373 Freezing and Crashing when switching from Antialiasing and/or Anisotropic Filtering

The bug still exists in 1.22.3 and 1.22.4, I posted in http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-10380 (which is a duplicate of) http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-9373, which I posted there as well. Crash logs coming soon (if you could, post the steps to get to the right crash logs for the RC @_@ that'd be helpful too)

http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-7937 Keep "Rendering Types" and "Rendering Features" sticky.

"Picking" was never a problem for me, so no comment there.

Texture window still takes an unacceptable amount of time to open.

Stop playing with your new toys and fix the texture window problem first.

I don't know that I can work with this latest viewer. The camera pans out and stays that way over 500 feet.
I'm hoping it's just me and not a huge bug.
Thank you :D hugs

For RC6...
01-07-2009 13:25
Note, we are definitely hoping to solve the following additional regression bugs in RC6:

* VWR-11312: Microphone volume isn't saved upon relog
* VWR-11044: Incorrect picking on right-click, when "Hide Selected" is enabled
* VWR-11093: Camera resets immediately upon pressing ESC after Editing objects
* as well as an improvement to overall slow texture loading

I know that the list of public issues includes MANY long-awaited fixes that have been broken in previous viewers-- we continue to try to solve those in sandbox testing, so that it undergoes thorough Testing & re-testing before it is ready for an official viewer.

http://jira.secondlife.com/secure/IssueNavigator.jspa?mode=hide&requestId=11732

However, I am interested if there are any Critical or Major bugs in that list which unintentionally broke in this 1.22 Release Candidate -- that is, things that were NOT broken in 1.21.6 viewer, and we should "get it right" before publishing 1.22 viewer. Which would you identify that we have not yet resolved in the RC?

Hmm, yes that is a new bug I have not heard anyone report. Definitely please do file an issue in JIRA, with the steps that you are conducting right before the camera pans out on its own accord!

Glad to hear "picking" is improved... it seemed to manifest more on my mac laptop than it did on my pc, but it was still irksome.

However - http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-8818
still deserves mention even though seems to have been broken with 1.21 not 1.22 =)

Just observed in 1.22.5 shortly after logging in:

Click (Inventory): instant, instant, instant, every time.

Inventory [File:New Window]: 8 seconds, 10 seconds, 2 seconds, 9 seconds, 1 second, 8 seconds, 3 seconds, 3 seconds, 3 seconds...

(Edit) Texture Picker: 5 seconds, 4 seconds, 4 seconds, 5 seconds, ... bizarrely.. after 20 minutes or so, it was opening faster with only a 1-2 second delay consistently under the same conditions.

Groups Invitation (Open Person Chooser): 1 second, 3 seconds, 6 seconds, 7 seconds, 10 seconds, 3 seconds, ...

During these delays the entire UI frozen solid... and always makes me feel like the viewer just crashed on me, but then it recovers.

Shouldn't opening inventory views should be asynchronous operations? Where if it can not list all relevant data, it still opens the window and populates it with data as it becomes available. (Just like the main inventory window does while still pulling down your inventory just after login.)

(I'll add this comment to 8188 as well.)

Everything that Jopsy said. It gets rather difficult to kick out greifers (or report them for that matter) when the person chooser takes a good 10 seconds to appear, and the rest of the UI is frozen during that time.

I do have one good thing to say: I love the "return all objects on all estates from this user" function in estate tools. :D

/me jumphugs you to no end! XD

Really.... That's THE killer for me right now. I'm actually currently refusing to use my favorite alt client (Cool Viewer) because of the performance and stability I've seen in this run of the RC. I'm still not seeing an immediate solution to my post-TP lag spices, but, give me faster textures and you're gonna see one smiley loli. =^-^=

Good. I thought it was just me still seeing this problem, though it hasn't been as bad as before.

At least they're not lag spikes.

Spices aren't so bad.

Is it because the camera starts moving instead? It can be difficult to grab the very EDGE of that Camera Control window, so that you are "grabbing" the whole window and it doesnt interpret as clicking on the arrow.

Texture window still takes an unacceptable amount of time to open.

From: Jopsy Pendragon

Inventory [File:New Window]: 8 seconds, 10 seconds, 2 seconds, 9 seconds, 1 second, 8 seconds, 3 seconds, 3 seconds, 3 seconds...

(Edit) Texture Picker: 5 seconds, 4 seconds, 4 seconds, 5 seconds, ... bizarrely.. after 20 minutes or so, it was opening faster with only a 1-2 second delay consistently under the same conditions.

Texture window takes forever to open.
So does opening people picker for Group Invite, or AR's
As does opening a new window for inventory.

While doing any of these things, the viewer is frozen, as Jopsy stated above.

There is also an issue with Photos. Zoom in using Alt+0 and try to take a High Res 5400x3200 snapshot to disk. 8 times out of 10 that will result in a crash.

The random up-to-1 minute freezes still occur in this viewer reasonably frequently.

while the raytrace picking was improved from rc4 it´s still not nearly as good as it was. now you can click the attached necklace from your example even if you dont see it. just click the avatar upper body.

what was wrong with the old version?

Texture loading is faster with RC5, but some attachments either never fully rez even after an hour or unrez and partially re-rez periodically.

Not happy with overall performance ...
01-08-2009 11:21
I'm sorry, there are no major bugs, but all the 1.22 RCs seem to have a really bad performance. Slow texture loading, windows loading slowly, the about land window shows infos about the parcel i selected before, when i click on a new parcel the parcel before keeps highlighted and when i cross sim borders, my av keeps flying on a while, though he should stop.

Maybe it's also because of the 74.000 users online, or because i use a Nvidia 9800 GT with driver 180.48. I just saw a new Nvidia driver is released, 181.20, maybe i try that one.

I simply don't have much fun with the RC. The classic viewer 1.21 works great, no problems at all.

But of course, i never give up hope. Sure the final 1.22 will be a great viewer :)

Editing problems
01-08-2009 13:35
With this new viewer, I'm having a very bad time editing prims that are close to the body. Essentially, I have to put the prim on the ground and edit that way. Makes it very difficult for creating/editing especially small prims and jewelry that I want to size on my avi. And, I, too, am having a hard time with loading textures quickly. Hope this is helpful!

I just realized it, but I haven't been able to correctly and completely rez another avatar (other then mine) since the 1.20. Probably several JIRA's for that =/
