Lionheart, reboot your computer, go find the install folder (C:\Program Files\Release Candidate is default on XP, don't know about Vista).

Delete that folder and everything in it then retry the install.

same thing, but on 64 but it goes to "program files (x86)"

When I try to click on the file menu it won't do anything, but if I click on another one (edit, view, etc.) it will and then I can move over to the file and it works. This is on both the regular viewer and the RC after the security update. Anyone else have this problem?

Argent is right - with the advent of mono, all compilation is done on the simulator (even LSL compilation, so.)

YA RLY, I noticed that on Beta when the new functions were coming out. They weren't highlighted on the older Mono viewer I was using, but they still compiled ok to both to old LSL and Mono.

If you're still around, Qarl, since you seem to know the most about this subject, what exactly are the effects on a sculptmap when you check the Inside-Out or Mirror boxes, or both, and how can that be replicated with a standard sculptmap? (I'm looking to replicate having both checked, for the record)

The two check marks resemble flip vertical and flip horizontal for a surface texture.
So yo can get the same effects by flipping the sculpt texture in your picture tool (photo shop or alike)

Only one problem, then: when I make a flipped horizontal and vertical texture for a sculptmap, it just right-side-outs again.

SL sessions not ending at logoff
10-09-2008 07:30

Memory: 2045 MB
OS Version: Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 3 (Build 2600)

Graphics Card: GeForce 8600 GTS/PCI/SSE2

I've noticed with this last RC that my Secondlife sessions do not end when I quit out of SL now. I first noticed it when I once shut down SL and I could still hear sounds in my headphones. I couldn't get rid of it until I checked my sessions and noticed SL was still running. Now I check everytime I quit SL and sure enough...the SL session is always still running. I have to manually stop Secondlife everytime I quit out of it now.

I am going to try and do a Jira...but honetly...it is not a user friendly environment and so far all but once I have tried to complete one I have become too frustrated. The one I did finish was marked as a duplicate...and never addressed.

Don't be afraid to post a duplicate in the Jira... I'm finding that's often the workaround to the wonky search system. Most of my issues turned out to be duplicates of others, but, their presence adds previously unused keywords to lead to the original issue that they duplicate. (^_^)

And... If your issue does truly windup being a duplicate, follow the link to the issue that it duplicates, vote, and comment on ~that~ issue. (^_^)y

Okay...I did go vote on a Jira that was already written for this problem
https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-9577.

And I actually completed one for the edit, texture window freeze problem ;-).

I've been noticing that RC5 on my Mac (Leopard) very frequently closes suddenly without any messages or warnings. Has anyone else had that happening? I'll search jira soon for it, but I just wanted to put that out in here as well.

Ok, I just had this happen again in less than 2 minutes after repeatedly testing a set of teleports. I think it's more about clicking many times (or maybe just clicking) because the crash seems to happen right after I click something.

By the way, to make it more clear, the SL program just goes poof and I'm suddenly looking at my desktop. It's a very clean and instantaneous crash.

I had this error back on RC1 or RC2 but I did not notice it on RC3 and RC4
Now on RC5 it is back...

Belle- no need to make a Jira, it sounds exactly like you are experiencing this new bug:
https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-9577

This is the hardest kind of bug, because it seems to affect only SOME people on SOME hardware and not reliably. However it is something we are investigating very seriously even as I type!

What was the other jira you made in the past and was never addressed?

Hi Dora- I think you are experiencing this new bug:
http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-8920

Unfortunately it has turned out to be an intermittent artifact of the rendering in viewer 1.21. But it looks like something we can solve in the next viewer that is entering its alpha phase. I do apologize for this bug!

Ramzi, this one has me scratching my head. What did you guys change in the rendering with this release? And why? And why can't you simply put it back the way it was? I thought that 1.21 was mainly a stability update...so why tinker with and break something that was working fine in 1.20?

It's a serious bug if you're a creator...having your jewelry piece disappear when you try to zoom in on it can make it impossible to work.

Hi Erwyn,
thanks for this symptom-- we havent seen it in our testing at all. What is your system environment? Are you using a PowerPC processor Mac or an Intel Mac?

Hi Lindal- its a good and fair question. The reality is that our rendering system is complex, and most of the stability problems in the SL viewer (note: but not related to the stability of the grid!) lies in bugs we need to track and fix in the rendering code.

So part of the maintenance done in rendering for 1.21 was intended to help stability -- reduce crashes. (Which appears to be true.) But with any refactoring, there is the possibility that some peripheral effects will occur, which we did not intend. This disappearing attachments is sucha a mysterious artifact, but we think it is also solved in the most current state of the render code (which is in pre-testing as 1.22).

I know this may not feel like a satisfactory answer, but its an honest one :(

It's an Intel Mac. For the time being, I have gone back to using 1.20.17 with no crashes of that sort. There is apparently something different about RC5 that is less stable. I'll go back to RC5 again soon and see if I can find a more detailed pattern. The only pattern I've seen so far is that it always coincides with clicking on something. In other words, it usually is a "click and poof" effect. (It feels almost like clicking on the X of a window on a PC.)

The problem is of course with any code base the size of the SL client is bug fixing gets to be like shooting dice. Just try to shoot 12d20 and predict what numbers will come up
then you have the problem of you are shooting dice in a back alley and somebody likes to mess with the dice before you can get to them.

Yes. This happens to me at least once every day. CrashReporter isn't triggered, and that ain't right :-/

My other issues is how RC5 grabs all the cycles from the OS - I think by causing a swap file creation - so I get into this mire of almost-frozen, thaw, almost-frozen, thaw, repeat for five minutes, sometimes recover and sometimes crash or need to be restarted. Meh.
