No, the checkbox in the friends list as no effect on the minimap... nor should it: if you're on the minimap you're close enough to see if someone bothers to look... and at max magnification you're close enough to show up on a HUD radar. What's next, having a setting that makes you invisible to llSensor() so people can't see you on radar?

It looks like my epic lag spikes are all but gone. Still a hint of slowdown after teleporting, but nowhere near the epic freezeups I used to see. (>_<;)

I'm also very happy to have been able to remove the touch of gray that I've had to add to a few of the outfits I've bought over the past year. Please don't compromise on that, it looks good now and helps content creators as we can now use the same shaded textures for both the avatar layer and prim attachments of an outfit. (^_^)

Though, textures are still bloody slow and I still find myself "editing" vendors to get the images up in a loaded store. It's like bloody clockwork. The face texture won't load in forever. I right click >> edit >> watch the textures load nearly immediately. I can totally pick and choose the order of which prims will rez first. So, it's not bandwidth, it's selectivity/priority. Whatever is taking priority over nearby texture loading has to give. This world of gray is driving me nutzo. (>_<;)

Ok..I have an old white Last Call dress on that USED to match. Now the prim skirt is grey while the layer on my avie is white? What can I do to fix it?

Thanks in advance:)

If they tinted the prims in the build menu > texture > color, you can just adjust the grey tint lower, but having just checked a white Last Call dress that I have, that probably isn't how they tinted it. They probably tinted the prim texture to match in Photoshop, which means there isn't a whole lot you can do. You could try tinting the clothing layers grey...but you're gonna have a grey dress now rather than a white dress. Exactly why I just spent all day fixing textures to get ready for 1.22 that I had tinted in PS to match....

I understand why this fix is being made...but it's going to break some things. :(

So far this is much better, particularly things like rotating objects which are much smoother than previous versions.

Looks pretty good.

BUG: Hovertips in Script Editor Not Appearing

I think that;'s been a sporadic bug in every release that causes this and unfortunately I don't think anyone's actually been able to/tried to reproduce this so it's never been fixed but in every release I see this issue off and on.

Using the Monitor, it seems the Network usage by Objects is way too high. 800kbps in a sim with only a couple of AVS, and while looking at a blank wall.

I've verified that the bandwidth really is being used that much. After 20 mins, it's settled down to 30 KBPS, which is usually the norm. It will then go back up to 800KBPS after a short while, perhaps relating to new AVS showing up.

There are Green Lag Bars showing, but the ping is not excessive. There seems to be no correlation between the bars and and the ping value given. Altho, the Green Bars have gone away after the Network Objects usage have settled down.

At times, you can see the communications slow down to nothing, and a SIM SHUTDOWN message is given with the 'Quit' button.

Using the standard 1.21.6 viewer, monitoring the Network Objects shows the typical 30kbps usage from the same sim.

Works so much better for me than everything I've seen before that I even decided to post it on the official forum. I am one of the weirdos who try to play shooting games in SL. And I am pretty used to get deadly lag every time I am moving in a sim which utilizes lots of textures like non-Linden trees, etc. Well, most sims do. :) It started in summer 2007 and was continuing until this latest RC2. Also, textures load much faster now. With viewers prior to this one we had to start playing among grey/white boxes often since they seemed to load forever. Yes, avatars look a bit unusual, and left-clicking objects does not always work, but yay! We can see the world in reasonable time now. Of course, I know all the tricks with clearing cache, adjusting bandwidth, and so on. It was not the case. I don't know what did the developers change, but I kindly ask them to keep it as it is now. I am using not a gamer grade hardware (Sempron 2300+/1GB RAM/GF6200 256MB videocard/2Mb ADSL connection), but so do many of SL users.

I'm experiencing a bug with scripting. When I'm writing a script the hover text to explain the function isn't showing. I thought it might be an SL problem but when I logged in on the regular viewer everything seemed fine.

Lear, it sounds as if you had a client running in the background while trying to install the new one. I have seen various reports of recent versions not shutting down correctly (so that the secondlife.exe process was still running even though the window was gone). Try opening the task manager or Sysinternals Process Explorer and kill secondlife.exe before the install.

Thanks, Yuu. At the time, I remember looking in task manager for secondlife.exe for just that kind of reason, and not seeing it. But after a reboot install went fine so perhaps I just missed it, or maybe Bill Gates is still out to get me. Damn him.

I noticed the same bugs as mentioned above, such as script hovertips not working.

Bloodsong, please open JIRA entries if none exist for these problems.

Same problems, unfixed, not even given any attention except by worried residents.

Jessica, if you want to help others support you, please mention what these bugs are, rather than expecting forum readers to look up each JIRA entry themselves. A moment of your time not only saves time on the part of many others, it helps your cause by drawing attention from people who are interested in the same issues.

Thanks

Haven't been able to use it at all-
12-06-2008 13:52
- have asked others in world and heard the same, though I'm not seeing any of it mentioned here at all.

I'm running XP w/4gigs RAM, on a GeForce 7500, with the latest drivers.
When I load the RC, I get a slide-show slow world of grey plastic unbaked prims that doesn't resolve at all. Vedry distressing since until now I've been using the RC almost exclusively, with great happiness.

Well, I did say "worried residents", but lets just spread out to anybody.

http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-7937

Keep "Rendering Types" and "Rendering Features" sticky and custom. Rather then having them reset every time you log in.

http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-7334

New "Cloud-ruth" avatar does not show with zero particle count or when particles are turned off, though I am hoping to get the old ruth back, because the test ruth's and cloud ruth's do not function properly - As well, they make an avatar look worse then the former ruth.

http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-9373

Freezing and crashing when switching on/off Antialiasing and/or Anisotropic Filtering. This started with, from my knowledge of actually attempting it, main viewer 1.20, and every RC from that point on.

I prefer the ball of light. It seems more polite to point out to someone they are a ball of glowing light than they are ruthered. :)

OK...What's the JIRA? I've heard it mentioned before but no idea what it actually is. Anyway, I hope they fix the scripting bug quite soon, I'm having to use the regular viewer which interestingly seems slower than the test one.

Does anyone else have occasional viewer freezes for about 30 seconds or so? It's been happening to me several times with the latest RC releases, including RC2. When this happens, my computer is fine and I can do other things with it, but the SL viewer is non-responsive. When it finally unfreezes, I find that I have walked or flown some distance in that time (if I was walking or flying at the time).

I've tried searching jira, but there are so many different kinds of freezes that I'm not sure that I've found one that relates to this problem. I hope this is a known issue.

Here's my system information:

I had freezing with the official release and now with the Release candidate. Clearing cache appears to fix it so it's most likely a HDD problem and not a viewer problem.

What I am getting is problems viewing Quicktime movies and this appears to be intermittent. Various URLs work in Quicktime perfectly but not in-world. But as I said it's intermittent, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

I'm still getting moving prims with this version. Anyone not familiar with the problem just check the 1.22.1 thread (my entries) regarding moving/rotating prims when in 'edit'. Makes building sort of impossible. If this becomes the default viewer then I'm screwed!!!

Perre..:(

Oh..the black pre rezzed texture thing..it's now gone..it's grey again!!

Client locking up and then won't end
12-09-2008 13:35
While useing Vista, I have noticed that this newest client will turn white and I get the spinning blue wheel. After several minutes of this I try to close the program. The Vista task manager seems to be unable to get rid of it. It takes a relog at a minimum to get rid of the hanging SL client.

Has any one else expierenced this?

Hihi!

Is anyone else seeing:

"You do not have permission to view the group's accounting information"

when you click on "Planning" in "Land & L$" tab?

I own the group and it's active, but I don't have permission? In the 1.21 version, the information is available.

I don't remember seeing it mentioned as a known problem.

Not yet. That'll be my next step. I want to make sure that it wasn't just a fluke.

This version does not have the 30 minute crash issue found in version 1.21. Other then the known problems, everything is looking fine so far.

Yes!! Sorry about this bug. It is reported as VWR-10688: http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-10688

We should have this fixed in RC4.

Hi Bloodsong,
Thanks for mentioning these. Both are Known Bugs, so no need to create a new jira issue.
We are working on them. The Hovertips we have solved in RC4 coming soon. However I do not know yet when Ctrl-H will be fixed.

From: Bloodsong Termagant
BUG: Hovertips in Script Editor Not Appearing

hovering the mouse over coloured text in the script editor isn't generating the pop-up script tips. 'show hover tips' and 'tips on all objects' is turned on in the menu (IF that has anything to do with the tips in scripts, which lord i hope not.)

BUG: CTRL-H opens IM window, not Chat History

if i want to see my im text, i hit the 'communicate' button. when i hit 'ctrl-h' that means i want to see LOCAL CHAT HISTORY, like it always has been.

are we supposed to put these here, or in the jira? isnt... here easier to find? :X
