What the hell happened to RC??

hmm interesting. I did believe that there might be some shared common configuration parameters between them but I suspected that those parameters were stored on my profile settings on the SL servers (i.e. login to grid at last location). I have seen that the viewer settings are independent from each other as re-installing /upgrading one viewere only seems to impact that viewer. I have also uninstalled one of the viewers without it shutting down the other.

Maybe I have been lucky.

There are some changes for the cache folder that goes now to Local Settings\Application Data instead of Application Data but AFAIK the settings.xml file is still shared unless you specify another one in the shortcut to startup the viewer.

This *WILL* cause problems with an existing 1.22 viewer and possibly also screw up things stored on a server. Installation of the RC may also delete stored chat and IM logs without warning.

So that sounds like LL's fine work of art again to deploy a RC viewer that is SUPPOSE to be a completely independent installation / instance of viewer from the main viewer. The whole idea of an RC is to be a completely isolated experience of TEST software. They should not be integrated in case - and the risks are high - that something goes wrong.

Thank you for the helpful info. Looks like SL will never work for me again. So sad. I really was having fun, but no sense staying here if I can't fly, talk, chat, or see things clearly. What a shame that things get worse instead of better. Everything was just fine until this forced upgrade. Oh well, will have to make do with RL now. But if anyone has any suggestions, please do not hesitate to post. This is really hard for me.

@ Carrina: If you are using MS Windows try using a 3rd party un-installer like 'Revo Uninstaller' to un-install SL viewer and clean up left overs, then re-install the SL viewer of your choice, you will need to setup your viewer prefences again, but thats better then having no SL....lol.......anyhoo, good luck!!

Aimeelou thank you for your help. However I am not that pc savy. Where do I get another viewer, lol. I am so hopeless, maybe I should just give up. If you could give me step by step instructions I would be so grateful. Also, would I loose anything by doing this, such as inventory, friends list, etc. Thanks again.

First uninstall the Release Candidate and the official viewer. Then you need to delete the Application Data. Depending on WinXP or Vista that folder is here:
WinXP: C:\Documents and Settings\<you>\Application Data\SecondLife\
Vista: C:\Users\<you>\Appdata\Roaming\SecondLife\

If you have chat and IM logs you can also find them in this directory in a subfolder with the name of your AV. You may want to make a backup first, then delete the whole SecondLife folder.

After this simply install the normal viewer again and it should work.

Boy Lane, thank you. I decided to give RC a try since 1.22.11 was inoperable for me and guess what. It works with no issues. Have voice back again, can chat, move freely, actually fly without being teleported 100 meters in the air. All is well. Thanks everyone for your help.
