What exactly is this for? To make the servers run smoother? Also a grid said teleport issues we're resolved. But I still can't teleport and it says I have no groups, although when i click to view my profile they're therem I don't get group IM's either.

Thanks for any info

Added back-end support for improved tracking of script memory usage

Can you give any more information on that and is this something that will eventually be seen front end?

Good to see that the default home for the homeless has been fixed. Hopefully new residents will be better distributed across the grid now on arrival. Its been a bit of a shambles for new residents all getting dumped into Hau Koda; Moose beach before that.

Just on another note re. directing/balancing the new residents load. This has nothing to with the server update per se; but does contribute to the issue the update is aimed at rectifying.

The Community Gateways destinations board at the New Resident Help Islands and the inworld Welcome Areas don't give the new residents anything when clicked on.

The Orange ones work, its the CG one thats borked and I've yet to find one anywhere that does work. Its a bit frustrating for new residents this, at the Help Island, to be trying to exit to someplace advertised and not being able to.

May also help shed some light for CG providers who may wonder why they're not getting as many new residents as they would have expected out of the thousands of new signups each day. They are there at the Help Islands; thousands of new residents everyday, and most of them do click on the CG board to exit, if only because it has pictures of cool-sounding destinations on it.

But the board doesn't give them anything. No LM, no notecard, no map, no nothing. So they jump out through the Orange signs instead, and more times than not end up in a place, that doesn't auto-default to Home and compounds the Hau Koda problem.

/me eyes the release notes and notes minor bugs with few votes getting fixed and grumbles yet again about SVC-4196, that critical bug with hundreds of votes.

Also, for your reading enjoyment if you haven't seen it yet, Lil: . The natives are definitely getting restless..

I don't know what you guys are doing this morning. But it has been a long time since our estates were so lagged that it crashed my viewer. Ping times were jumping all over the place - might wanna look at the network while you are at it.

Let us hope things stabilize as the day goes by.

Business platform of the future? *snerk* Not with these bugs and reliability...

Teleporting issues still
10-27-2009 14:36
Hey, I read through this thread and saw another member is still having teleport issues as well. I also cannot attach items to my avatar. As I usually go through all the normal steps of trying to resolve an issue myself before resorting to posting about it.. You can imagine I've restarted, cleared cache, reinstalled, read the wiki, logged in another character (which has no issues teleporting anywhere it's just my main account Thena), rebooted my PC, ran every sort of virus program I own, and still nothing will work on that account.

ATTACH_LPEC and ATTACH-RPEC?

How about fixing the attach point for pectoral so it actually attaches to the pectorals, instead of the lower torso. I don't know about you, but my pects are on my upper chest.

Or is Ruth/Ken THAT badly out of shape? :D

On the other hand, it's nice to have a few actual bugs fixed in a rollout. I'll give y'all a thumbs up.

But unfortunately not SVC-4196, which seems to be getting progressively worse and worse.

LMAO! Great!. Another rolling JERk around
Whats wrong guys? Not happy that SVC-4196 IS not being fixed?
Not happy that the host your region is on can not even support your busy region?
Not happy that your CPU is being shared by other regions because there isn't enough memory to support 4 busy regions?
Tired of restarting your region 5 to 10 times a day because the product you pay for is not up to snuff?
Heh well enjoy it for another 9 months
How long will it take you before you sell or abandon your region ?

Heh Im selling mine and moving on. I don't have all this time to baby sit a crap product that Linden labs doesn't even care to fix properly anymore.. These hosts are over crowded and milked to death on memory.. Your teleport latency problems are because these hosts are crap anymore.. Avatars wearing too much stuff and no way to limit it.. I had a girl in our region the other day with an ARC over 27,000. pfft/
thanks for not providing the service as said. 1 CPU per full region is a joke when you sit here all day watching it Swap CPUs just to get a little more power to run because the memory just can not handle todays avatars..
Get used to the lag and constant restarts people. it will never get fixed/
I give up and leaving as soon as i sell my business

Sim performance
10-28-2009 14:00
Hopefully this release will restore the performance that dropped in the toilet the last release! It will, won't it? Anyone? *listens to the sound of crickets in the night*

Seriously, can someone please comment on the huge drop on performance? We (I and a number of other sim owners I've talked to) are seeing a lot more server side lag that DID NOT EXIST before. The Top Script numbers are showing LESS time (since I did a big cleanup of scripted objects) yet with this current release the sim FPS and time dialation numbers are way down, even with nobody but me in the sim.

This is not OK. Has anyone done any profiling at all to determine what is going on? It seems with each release, performance is getting worse instead of better. Can we get an answer as to why this is? And what LL's plan is to improve performance? Maybe Class 6 servers?????

When are sim owners going to get access to more performance information about their sims? Can we get reports on total script time used by objects since last restart? That would really help nail down poorly behaving items that the current "top script" tool fails miserably at.

Kiss is right. The server product is junk
Sweethearts is officially for sale Charity and Dilbert Are done with this crap product
Second Life is not fun for us anymore. Its a stressful pile of crap that LL don't want to fix the big issues that are upsetting the residents.
We have brought thousands of people to this platform only to be dissed while we pay for this service to run
ITS NOT RUNNING FOR EVEN 1 DAY!!! NOT EVEN 2 HOURS!!!

THESE ISSUES DID NOT EXIST OVER 9 MONTHS AGO!!!!
Lil you need to get on the horn with you comprades and relay that the residents are pissed and leaving soon!
With all Due Respect Lil I know you're here to relay messages for the Rolls but you also need to relay how seriously upset your PAYING residents are

I am sick of the crashing the constant restarts the severe lag
Sure run your region with 20 users and enjoy paying full price for half the service
JUNK JUNK JUNK JUNK and ill say it again PURE JUNK!!!!

SICK OF IT!!!!

If anyone wants to buy a highly profitable business And highly popular place give me an offer. If you can stomach babysitting this junk product for 24 hours then feel free to jump in .. After these last 9 months of severe problems and lack of answers from Concierg to ticketts we have submitted since February I am done. I cant sit here all night stressed out over a PRODUCT WE FREAKIN PAY FOR EVERY MONTH!!!!!

Great to see 3819 fixed! And work aimed toward better script memory info, excellent!

Sometime I'd love to see some words from LL about what one should expect to see in the stats panel for Homesteads vs. Full sims. For example, "Spare Time" on Homesteads seems high relative to numbers one sees on Full sims. How one can have a Time Dilation of less than 1, nearly zero physics going on, and Spare Time of 12ms puzzles me.

My home region is now on 1.30.2.135876 and there seems to be a new problem with physical objects..

/me digs some more..

edit: hm.. problem went away and I couldn't get it to happen again. Stuff that was supposed to be just dropping to the ground was stopping 1/2 way there, though it was still saying it was physical. Lot of people in the region but it was still 40 or so sim fps.

I haven't heard anything about wide-spread teleport issues on 1.30. If you haven't already, I suggest opening a ticket on the support portal (http://secondlife.com/support) as they will be able able to help you better than I can.

/me hates to do the broken record thing but if people are wearing lots of scripts/prims and they're trying to TP to or from a busy region, SVC-4196 could make the TP fail. With sims locking up for 20-30 seconds not being uncommon, TP reliability can be a bit off...

Fwiw, we've seen a significant uptick in complaints about failed teleports here in the forums over about the last two months.

/me notes that enough time has passed since Mono that more and more of the common HUDs and objects have had time tp be distributed in a Mono version. So SVC-3895 "Rezzing Mono scripted object cripples sim FPS" may be playing an increasing role as a cause of SVC-4196, and therefore of failed TPs.

Mono will always be good for some things, not so great for others. A clear statement from LL on the blog as to when Mono compilation helps and when it hurts would be terrific. Blog readers could then take it on themselves to disseminate the news through their inworld groups. (Wouldn't hurt if it mentioned the right and wrong ways to script your retexturing/resizing hair and shoes :) ).

Regarding SVC-4196 and memory usage UI, it's been mentioned during Babbage Linden's office hours (Oct 21st 2009) - http://ja.pastebin.ca/1634968

From: someone

[3:17] Babbage Linden: lontorus, if we can wean people off huge amounts of attached scripts a lot of things would improve
[3:18] Liandra Ceawlin: wiki off
[3:18] Liandrapedia: (Disabled.)
[3:18] Babbage Linden: teleports would succeed more often without timing out
[3:18] Hypatia Callisto: seems like AO is one of those things that should be in the client
[3:18] Babbage Linden: sims wouldn't freeze rezzing tons of scripts when people arrive
[3:18] Becky Pippen: you're talking about this one, right? https://lists.secondlife.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/secondlifescripters
[3:18] Babbage Linden: (which i've also been looking at this week)
[3:19] Babbage Linden: if you could give me more sim freeze inducing objects that would be great
[3:19] Liandra Ceawlin: Oh, I forgot about that list.... I never get any mail on it. >_>
[3:19] lonetorus Habilis: lsl, im sure Skills Hak is open to suggestions to improve her emerald AO code if you have any specific ideas, or better yet, make a patch
[3:19] Babbage Linden: i've been experimenting with some of the objects you gave me and they have been very helpful
[3:19] Babbage Linden: part of the lag is caused by mono-scheduling issues
[3:19] LSL Scientist: will Skills make version of every AO seller in SL?
[3:19] Babbage Linden: which we already have fixes for
[3:20] Liandra Ceawlin: Nah, you just take out the notecard and animations and put them in a folder, assign the notecard to the AO, and it magically works.
[3:20] Hypatia Callisto: I dont buy AOs. I buy animations
[3:20] Babbage Linden: some of it is caused by script verification
[3:20] Babbage Linden: and i'm looking in to the lag caused by derez
[3:20] Hypatia Callisto: and make a notecard for ZHAO. I could care less about premade AOs anymore
[3:20] LSL Scientist: and im too lazy to type anything to notecards, so i use nice scripted click click configurable AO
[3:21] Babbage Linden: i think the verification and derez problems need to be fixed by threading rez and derez
[3:21] Babbage Linden: which is going to be a bigger project
[3:21] Imaze Rhiano: how is UI for memory usage coming together? when we can see our memory usage in parcel / attachments?
[3:21] lonetorus Habilis: babbage i have a box for memory exhausting sims if you are interested? (box with thousands of mono scripts all using 64kb mem)
[3:21] Hypatia Callisto: the client could be a click click configurable AO
[3:21] Babbage Linden: imaze, the ui design is coming together
[3:21] Hypatia Callisto: and you will save lag on the sim
[3:22] Babbage Linden: the front end engineers are very busy at the moment though
[3:22] Morgaine Dinova: lone: that would be a cool load tester for Opensim too
[3:22] Dirk Talamasca: And there is no reason those cannot still exist but having an AO built into the client certainly will go a long way to reducing script load for those that choose to use it which more than likely will be the majority
[3:22] Babbage Linden: so, we may not get the script limits ui in to the next viewer release

Next Babbage office hours, someone needs to brace him about LSL vs Mono for attachments. It's not people with "hundreds of scripts", my newer avatars only have a handful of scripts and I still have a problem crossing sim boundaries... switching to an old avatar with old animation scripts that had to be in every prim, no problems at all. But they're old LSL scripts.

... seriously. you mean you do not know that for the last several months 3 out of 4 teleports fail for anyone who is not almost naked?
