Cut them some slack
09-11-2008 13:09
Yes, we wish there were better ways to do a lot of these things, but in all seriousness, Second Life is the only MMO online right now where the users create the content, so it stands to reason that for what Linden Lab is doing maintaining all this and adding features, it's not only the first time THEY'VE done it, it's the first time ANYONE has.
If you look at it this way, they really are doing a pretty good job, and learning all the time. Just chill - it'll be okay. |

Where's My Prim?
09-11-2008 13:47
I tried to rez a prim shortly before the restart of my region and it never appeared. I logged out when I got the 5 mins to restart warning, now I'm back and the prim is still missing. It isn't in my inventory and it is no copy. What now?

And my business is off by 50% today, which should go on for several days, since I sell to builders and they're so persnickety about having purchases show up in their inventory and then being able to use them. Woot!

rolling restarts and new server suck
09-11-2008 19:02
i decided to go shop today after not going anywhere much off my own sim in the past 6 to 8 months ,,2 crashes,, nothing rezzes,, lag lag lag same old crappy SL, no wonder businesses are hurting so bad and giving up, all these updates,, why doesn't anything ever improve? ( and it is not my PC) i have a very up to date machine with far more than the syst requirements and i know how to lessen my lag ect, This is a valid question i wonder if i will get an answer from a linden that is truthful?

7:50 PM SLT. No indication of rolling restarts being started..
This has to be one of the most annoying things with LL is lack of information. _____________________

I just started it, and I updated the status blog post a minute after I started it.
I did not say that I had started it before 7:50PM because it had not started before 7:50PM. |

From what I can tell, it looks like you are doing odd numbers this evening and even ones tomorrow?

I just want to say how much I appreciate your efforts to continually improve SL. Since 1.24 I have crashed very rarely — can't think of the last time actually — and I can see a massive improvement in stability over 1.23. You guys are doing terrific work.

Glad you're having good luck Leonardo . Since 1.24.3 we have been on a daily crash cycle. And again after this rolling restart our region crashed 1 hour after.
And they will probably tell me it's my fault again for having people on my region. It's been unstable since then and I have about had it.. It gets very annoying As of last week I have officially stopped investing in Sl .. saving my money and moving on to something else. Frustrating _____________________

If you are having problems with a region crashing a lot, you can contact concierge support and see if you can figure out what's going on.
Overall, looking at 13,000 regions each on 1.24.4 and 1.24.5 overnight, the simulator crash rate for 1.24.5 is about 1/3 that for 1.24.4. (The 1.24.5.96378 roll we piloted on Thursday around noon has a somewhat higher crash rate, which is why we're going with the earlier version of 1.24.5 for the full roll.) Note that even with the highest crash rate on a currently-deployed version (which is the 1.24.5.96378 version on the pilot hosts), the crash rate is equivalent to one crash every **month** for an average region. (Of course, some regions will stay up indefinitely, and some regions tend to crash more often, based on the natures of the regions. For instance, the Linden sandboxes, favorite griefer targets, tend to crash more often.) |

Oh wonderfull, more money went down the drain ended with 0x0 textures uploaded... You know you should toss warrning BEFORE creds are deducted from account when uploading stuff... Maybe server side disable uploads or something like that... Luckily now i havent used bulk upload as i usually do...

I noticed something weird today. One of my lowprims sims got its update and when it came back all look terrible. Some parts of the land was under water and a house was gone. I did a restart myself on the sim and when it came back, all looked OK again.
Just a little tip if that might happens to other simowners ![]() |

Renee -- no, since they've so far only be restarted twice...
![]() But, we're probably going to leave them on the version they're on over the weekend. We will decide more about that later today. |

OK, we *are* going to restart the pilot group again to put them on the same version as the rest of the grid. That will happen sometime late this evening.

Isn't there a beta grid where such things are supposedly tested? So we can avoid the whole "days of chaos" theme? I enjoy crashing, freezing, and business decline as much as the next person, of course, but this is really very far south of splendid.
