This thread is to discuss the rolling restart the week of Feb. 2, in which we will be deploying server version 1.25.5 to agni.

The blog post with full information about the rolling restart may be found here : http://status.secondlifegrid.net/2009/01/30/post473/

Drop by my island in Linden Village (you can find the location in m Picks), where I'll be idling during the restart (really working on the restart in other windows). If you didn't get the limited edition 1.25 rolling restart Linden bear during the 1.25.4 rolling restart, this will be your last chance!

hmm no release notes

is there a security risk in this that you've found and are now fixing?

I am thinking that there is a secuirty problem in 1.25.4, given some of the complaints I've been receiving from tenants for the past few days.

If there are security fixes, and I'm purposely not stating what my security problem here is, but I do hope it addresses the issue I am concerned about. Otherwise, i was *just now* going to turn in a ticket to Concierge and request that my sim, and probably the rest of the grid, get an emergency rollback to 1.24.x

I've had too many days of drama from my tenants over the issue :)

Submit your security issue at the JIRA. Any security submits are hidden upon submitting. This keeps people from seeing the issues and using them. Just take good notes on the problem so you can submit as much info as possible.

Glad this is happening. I can't get into my property (Chaska Sim) via Hazeltine. When I do get in I fly through the mountains etc. It isnt my computer since I am capable of going anywhere else in sl, I look forward to the restart and the new download and will contact support if all this fails. Thanks!

Anyone able to explain: "Mono script size calculation now includes assembly size"

Means less memory available for data in scripts?
More scripts broken than already broken by https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-3679

We have fix planned for Monday and will make sure it gets in to 1.25.5. It will stop scripts using more than 64KB of memory, so some scripts may need to be modified, but it will make the memory tracking deterministic and so not vulnerable to scheduler changes in the future.

This is what it does.

Is there a list of Pilot regions?

Or if you are in a Sim, is there something you can look up to see if it is a Pilot region?

Thanks.

Thank you Danball, but that's what the https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-3679 change will do but that's a separate point from the mentioned: "* Mono script size calculation now includes assembly size" does.

You can definitely tell what's running the pilot stuff once it's been rolled on, the server version is shown in Help->About Second Life, and those yellow popups show up each time you move to a sim that's running a different version from where you were last.

One little quirk: sometimes the old server version can still display on your viewer, if you were in a region before the restart, stayed logged in somewhere else, then moved back to the updated region. It all gets back into sync with a relog.

Server 1.25.5 issues
01-31-2009 08:41
I have an issue with the new server. For several days, my group info will not load. This has happened before and I posted a ticket and I was informed to reset the sim. I contacted the owner of the sim and the server was reset a couple of days ago. Now my group info is not loading again. I cannot keep contacting the sim owner to restart the sim due to these issues. Can you please let me know why this is happening and when it will be fixed?

how big is your group? it may have nothing to do with the sim restarting:

...We have taken a number of major steps this past week to improve database performance, which included offloading high impact queries to slave databases, and...we’ve now put some “throttling” mechanisms in place that would be our first step to reduce load vs. blocking logins. Throttling literally means turning features and functions off, and potentially degrading in world experience. One of these throttles would disable group queries to the central database, and would cause group features to be unavailable during that period of time. While degrading the resident experience is not a preferred step...

try during off-peak hours? if the group is huge maybe cut out some deadwood? reverse sort on "last login" and start trimming.

To answer some questions --

Maggie Darwin pointed to the release notes for the Beta server. I'll get the full release notes updated shortly (hopefully before Monday). Sorry about the delay in that.

Re: the Mono script size, I *believe* (but need to verify this) that it won't be less memory available to scripts, but simply that the reported number when you asked for memory usage was wrong, because that number wasn't including the size of the assembly. That is, what was reported, not what was used for actual accounting.

Re: pilot regions, about 300 of the 3000 pilot regions are volunteers. That means that the rest will be chosen randomly. I can't really tell you ahead of time if you're a pilot region, unless you're one of the volunteers. (Because, except during rolling restarts, regions move between hosts when they are restarted, I can't make the list of pilot regions until *right* before the rolling restart begins. Otherwise, regions might migrate between hosts, and the list of regions wouldn't match the list of hosts.)

Can more information be given on this "Fix the "crash on attach" bug" item? Is that referring to crashing the viewer, or crashing the sim?
A customer of mine has found a way to crash a sim that way, if it's being fixed he should probably wait before trying to report it (duplicate).

Darien -- it's a sim crasher bug. That was introduced in 1.25.4, and will be fixed in 1.25.5. You can verify it on aditi if you wish.

02-01-2009 23:05
Hi and good morning/afternoon/evening....
Each time i try to log on it tells me my account won't be available til a certain time,
ive accepted that as fact... but i tried logging on with my other av and came on ok, to some extent, when opening friends list it says my first av is logged on??????

I try again at the specified time only to be told a new time....... this has been going on for 2 days now???.

Also it seems that some sim's are suffering TUV Nord for ex. on completing questions no money is forth comeing.. is this part of the same problem.....

Hi PugOfCrydee,
your AV got stuck in logout process. It's a known bug that can happen to anyone occasionally and is mentioned in the JIRA > http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-604. You should contact support, they will log you out manually.
