Quote: It's all about business and selling and making a profit. SL's land pricing scheme is too expensive and forces any land owner to pay tier fees in perpetuity.

SL is from the US of A, so of course its modelled on the capitalism model of the states.
What did you expect?

True, I'd like a utopia where everyone co-operated, jobs for all, states looks after all our social needs, healthcare and pensions for everyone - wait that's the socialist state system.

(Communism has never existed in reality, its a concept by Lenin, the working examples were socialist states)

Ever heard of a country thats used the socialist system that didn't get corrupt and run out of control with the protected citizens living lives worse than capitalist cattle?

Korea, CCCP, China, etc.

Oh don't bother arguing -I run a totalitarian system - you will be shot at dawn.

Thank you for that presentation by the Ayn Rand Dimwit Foundation. You will receive your cheque when we get around to it, and if you don't get it, haha, we're richer than you so you don't count.

Second Life NOT a scam

Second Life..in its conception was a virtual world built for..and by.."artists".(those who were imaginative enough to "create" unique and original content.)Not for the WalMart Customer crowd (which seems to make up the majority of SecondLife now)

Trust me; those who are able to have the foresight to create a product that a certain niche in Second Life might need or want or "think they need" have no problems paying for SIMs and generating positive revenue.

Those people are at the top of the food chain.Second Life is constantly changing and growing. The first resident to create genitalia..the SECOND person to provide an alternative...the THIRD person to provide a cheaper alternative...all are rolling in Lindens.

Choose your product creation wisely..sometimes it takes one... two... three..who knows how many tries to tap the market..but if you keep trying..or pay attention to detail in your first try..its not that hard to move up the food chain quite effortlessly.

I came into SL over a year ago now and I am just as captivated by it now as I was in the beginning. The beauty of SL is that there are so many choices for the vast amounts of different personalities inside the world. You can choose to use SL as a place to socialize, a place to roleplay, a place to club and listen to music, a place to fall in love, a place to be something you're not, a place to be creative and use your imagination. The fact of the matter is, if you come into SL with the intention of CREATING something, whatever it may be, then you need to realize that no matter the canvas you are using, there is going to be something you need to put into it. When a painter paints a beautiful work of art, do you think the art stores just hand out paint brushes and paints for free? No, that artist has to purchase them.

SL can be looked at as one large canvas to create whatever it is in your mind you can think of, but to expect it to be handed to your for free is not only ignorant but very selfish. One of the things about SL that is so amazing to me as far as business goes, is the give and take that residents provide for each other. No economy works without that. So if you want to come into SL and invest nothing, then why should they invest anything in you?

I know dozens of people who came into SL and have built entire companies that turn in profit and they did it without spending any RL money. How? There are numerous ways an avatar can make money. DJing, Hosting, Modelling, Escorting, Photography, etc. I myself invested nothing from RL to start my company. I made my lindens in world and used them to create in world. It is no different than reality. Nothing is free in real life.

As for deeming other people's creations garbage or ugly, you really should watch what you say. What is one person's trash is another person's treasure and by the personality you've shown in your post you are definitely no one to decide which is which. I agree with other posters, when I tp into a sim to see a specific person's parcel, I could give two hoots what else is around. Not only that, but if you are only concerned with building or creating something to entertain your friends, than those people who come to your sim-being as they are friends, really shouldn't care what else is around you anyway.

The bottom line is, if you don't like SL then leave. You have the freedom to choose how you play your SL and if creating is the way you choose then you're just going to have to suck it up and realize that you're not that special you should get to create for nothing. That is, in my opinion, quite rude to those amazing creators who appreciate the way things work. I myself happen to enjoy giving back to SL whether it's through tier or through purchasing other people's products. The reason I enjoy and feel it is necessary is because I am the one choosing to include myself in the business side of SL and SL is the one providing me with the canvas to create.
