Does anybody know if it is ok to recruit participants through in world classifieds for surveys via specific links in an add? Any help will be appreciated just as long as it is more help than calling Linden Labs in San Francisco and the UK. ; p

Are there still going to be blog posts about new things like the RC viewer? I quit reading the forums a while ago because I got tired of all of the FUD, but now I have to comb through all of the sections just to get news updates.

Wondering what's going on...
10-12-2008 07:08
So, it's Oct. 12 and no further Linden comments on this forum since Sept. 9, no post on the blog since Sept. 29, last Torley vidtut dated Oct. 1. Just wondering where all of the Lindens are and if they really value customer communication or not. Putting technical communication tools in place and/or tweaking them is secondary to actually responding to customer comments, right? Well...? Right??!!??!!

I like to try to stay positive in my comments, only because folks tend not to listen to rants & raves even if valuable information is included. Hopefully, this hasn't put me in the "Woot" category someone suggested. If it has, so be it! I'm not feeling very wooty now.

Anyway, I'm hoping that the Lindens are hard at work with their forums revamp and will have something to say for themselves soon. They should realize that silence is often interpreted in a negative way. How long would it take a Linden to hop on this forum and say they've been reading the suggestions and are working to get their forums revamp out by X date? And respond to some of the serious concerns about their plans for outsourced moderation and forum banning policies?

Frankly, other than a bit more moderation when threads go seriously off into the wild blue yonder, I think the forums are fine. I liked the blog and the inclusion of notices of new Torley vidtuts there - "one stop shopping" is good. And to add to other's comments - PLEASE bring back the blog/grid status report summary links in the viewer (or from the forums or whatever) - it was a VERY useful feature to keep up with important SL info right at login! And considering how long it took me to even find the forums, I think it's the best way to reach the majority of SL residents.

Why not work on the JIRA format, instead - that thing's dreadfully difficult to use.

Okay, I think I'm rambling a bit now.

So, I'll go back inworld and hope there's more info on what's going on with SL sometime soon...trying to keep positive - why do you LL folks make it so hard to do that sometimes???

I don't get why Torleys vids poofed from the blog.

If LL in-general wanted to move away from the blog, ok.. I've never been a huge fan of it anyway. But why pull Torley from it? His vids seemed really successful there so why not just leave 'em until the new mechanism was in place?

progress?

first blog revamp post happend in august, and the only thing i see different is more censorship (bad) and the blogs are categorized (good). sorry to state the obvious, but how long does it take to implement what you suggested back in august? fewer blog posts happened too.

why isnt there a "report abuse" button on each comment? that should help alot.

and the link to the forums here, is on the community page, no link on the blog page.

helllooo?

Yeah, I know they're there. I'm just lazy and don't like to have to check both the main blog and the status blog.

How about an update on when the forums will be upgraded. October and November have come and gone, well in all actuality, 2 years have come and gone.

From: Katt Linden

I know that my experience is that I can't spend as much time as I would like having great discussions with all of you here, as I spend time doing moderation instead.

I'm still participating in the Forum Guidelines thread, and while I don't promise to make specific changes, we are paying careful attention to what everyone has to say, and will take that into account before finalizing the guidelines.

I don't believe you at *all*. Let me explain why:

Moderating these boards, even if you moderated ALL of them, should be at least 70% automated. The very software you're using to run these boards COMES WITH A MODULE THAT DOES THAT, yet you do not seem to use it. If you had 70% less work to do moderating, would you come by and have these "great discussions" you claim exist?

Of course not, because the reason you don't involve yourself isn't because you're busy. It's really because you don't have any answers. Please don't get me wrong, this is not a personal attack against you, Katt. You have one of the toughest jobs there. Any customer-facing position at LL is sheer hell obviously, which is probably why we haven't seen Robin Linden around customers in some time. She caught the same crap you're catching right now, four years ago.

Nothing at all has changed.

I also don't believe you when you say that you pay very careful attention to what everyone has to say. If that were the case, you guys at the lab there would be well aware of the coolest, most sublime (and popular) way of griefing to date: TOS STORMS! That's right Lindens, you're being manipulated by small and medium sized groups getting together and all filing reports (many with fake screenshots, its really not all that hard to obfuscate origin--you should fix that) about one or two people at a time, getting them repeatedly banned and then permanently banned, just for a good time.

See, its possible to do that because of your new-ish draconian banning rules. Why risk your account with an Omega Ball (darn you for fixing that time-slice bug!) when you can just report some poor schlep with five of your closest cartoon buddies for virtual "rape"? Or "racism"?

Certainly this kind of thing wouldn't work at all if you'd been listening to your customers, who have been complaining about this for nearly a year now. Unfortunately thats the final rub of the lie; you cannot possibly be listening to your customers -- you've eliminated all forms of feedback except these forums, which you don't actually take part in.

You've already lost it all, LL. You'll fold inside the next 18-24 months, because no one will buy a company that cannot show that its idea can be made popular, even in six years. So what do you have to lose? You may as well start telling the truth-- and all of it now. It could actually save all your asses from oblivion. You'll be the only ones in the industry doing it, which may be just the thing to set you apart.

Because nothing else has.
