Im 30 and I dont know my parents' DOB. Hell, my mom's been lying about her age for as long as I can remember. I'd have to drug her to get to her purse which is always less than 2 feet from her, and THEN spend 3 hours digging through her 20lb wallet to find her ID.

Admittedly, yes, there are some that don't, but due to the "no body knows because he/she doesn't tell anyone ever."

So it is kind of an extream.

I do know that my children know my DoB, and could very easily access my SS# as well as my husbands - as well as insurance information, bank account information, credit card numbers, etc.

But there you go. Your kids could "age verify" on SL without needing to do anything and you'd never know.

Most other parents aren't that liberal with their info, but dates of birth are generally pretty well known. At the very least Month and Day and could narrow down the year to a decade and then start guessing.

First off.. Hasnt LL been hacked at least once.. ????

What makes OUR personal data safe here ? What GUARANTEE do we have our SSN or PP number is safe from IDENTITY THEFT ??

Mature is mature , period. If an under-ager gets past that then it is the parents issue and the parents that should be SUED. I am not a babysitter and I am responsible for my actions not some over-amped teenager with no parental supervision. THIS is what needs to be addressed IMO.

When they can give me a 100% guarantee my information is safe from hackers and identity theft then i will consider it.

Mystiphi, you need to read the blog posts and FAQ, LL never get your personal information, only Integrity receives it, and they delete it as soon as the verification is complete.

All LL ever receive is a little bit of data saying "Haravikk Mistral probably might be older than somewhere around 18, I think".

As for the verification being only name and address in the UK, that seems ridiculous. I'd imagine LL are aiming for a more secure version surely? Because otherwise everyone can just lie and say they're from the UK then look up the UK phone-books or something.

Otherwise the most difficult to verify country is going to be the one that suddenly everybody comes from =/

LL doesn't really care, and doesn't have to care. It seems the product that Integrity is selling isn't age or identity verification, it's insurance/protection against civil lawsuits.

Whether the information is accurate, or false, or unreliable ultimately doesn't concern LL at all, they're covered either way (except that it apparantly doesn't cover gambling, but LL got rid of that themselves so they're in the clear).

Well I didn't try it without filling in the full address field (only postal code is required), the only required fields are name, address, postal code and date of birth and it happily let me verify with that.

The U.K. won't be the only country that you can verifty from without filling in all the fields. The US only requires First name, last name, post code and D.O.B too, I don't know if anyone has managed to verify by just providing that information.

But how? The reason Integrity cannot validate against the various forms of ID (passport, national insurance number etc.) is because there are legal restrictions as regards who can be given access to those databases and for what purposes.

So without a change of law in the UK, it doesn't seem likely that there can be a more secure version.

And the UK is not unique - many other European countries have very strigent data protection laws on such data which prevent it being accessed by third parties apart from for well defined purposes.

Which in a way is pretty darn ironic. Since the criticism preceding the hurry up on Age verification came from European sources - claiming that LL doesnt do enough to keep kids out.

Which allows anyone to register as just about anyone they know.
Armed with the death notices from today's newspaper http://mynewspaper.example.com and a telephone book http://telephonebook.example.com one could successfully "verify" a dozen accounts per day (more if you are willing to look at yesterday's notices too).

Oh wait, says LL, that would be entry of fraudulent data and that's not allowed. Oh, say the customers, if you wanted me to be honest on the verification screen, why didn't you just ask me my age on login and then nab me for fraudulent entry yourself? Eh, says LL, we were hoping that someone else would do that for us, as we're not really all that interested in anything but the color of your money. Oh, and we're too busy to really do anything except talk about IDV until the next bad PR wave hits us, in which case well talk about IDV even more.

IDV's but a walking shadow, a poor player
That struts and frets his hour upon the stage
And then is heard no more: it is a tale
Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury,
Signifying nothing.

So I have a question... where does it even come up about needing to verify? Because I don't see anything about it in my profile...
