The Uigea is considerably more than a "tiny tidbit law" when the effect of it results in millions of dollars in assets being seized. Ask Neteller, Citadel, or Betonsports if they consider it a tiny tidbit of law.
Neither Neteller nor Citadel had anything to do with online gambling other than the single act of processing USD for others who were doing it.
The undisputed fact remains that if you are unable to trade your L for cash though the LindeX exchange owned and operated by Linden Labs, then neither you nor they are committing a crime under the law.
We get rid of the LindeX and the problem is solved.

I am respectful of your position here but I think you are off-target. First off, NeTeller is in the process of refunding $91M to online poker players now that they have worked out the refund process with the US government. The executives there and at other virtual wallet companies know damn well who butters their bread. They can claim to not be directly involved in online gaming but from a legal standpoint, they are a conduit to making the activity occur. Credit card companies understood this years ago when they banned using credit cards (at least in the US) to fund online gaming sites.
Before LindenX there were several third party currency exchange services. If you scale down SL to what it was a year and a half ago, some of these sites were easily processing as much currency as LL does now. Someone can gladly prove me wrong on that opinion but I know when my casinos were running back in the day, people had no problem buying and selling currency. If LindenX goes away (which it won't) plenty of people will step in to satisfy the demand.
Hell I remember buying money for TSO -- how pathetic is that
