For months now, I've ranted and railed at LL for their insanely stupid Adult Content policies.

I put my money where my mouth is. I downgraded to Basic, sold my land, tiered down to zero.

But I'm here to confess, I couldn't sustain it. I missed having land of my own, and a lot of prims to toss around.

Yesterday, I bought a beautiful mainland parcel, with protected waterfront on the Blake Sea. I didn't pay a rock bottom price, but given the nature and location of the parcel, I think the deal was fair to both parties.

And not only did I go Premium again, all my alts did too. It turns out that it's cheaper in the long run to use that free 512 tier donation, and to use the weekly stipend to offset the cost of the Premium accounts, than it is to to pay tier. I ran some numbers and it appears that this 12,288 m2 parcel, plus my weekly shopping allowance, will wind up costing me about $32 US per month. That's my ENTIRE monthly SL cost, including paying several premium subscriptions.

Once we get our new place set up, I hope y'all will come and visit.

It sounds like you're describing a perpetual-motion machine.

Do you mind sharing those figures? It seems to me that you'd need 24 premium accounts to not pay tier, which means you'd have to pay $238.80/month, $540/quarter, or $1728/year.

Even though you'd get $32,400 / month in stipend (figuring 4.5 weeks/month) you still have to put in the dollars each month (or quarter or year).

Yes, the urge is strong at tmes. I get the itch to have my place all set up again, but I mange to fight it. I do sometimes wander through estates looking at rentals, but I'm quite happy with the little place I have at Gabriele's.

You fought the good fight fight, Kiddo. Your name will be spoken with Honor.

Yes, that's the basic idea, Seven. Not quite perpetual motion, there is still a cost. And you are right, it takes a lot of alts to get zero tier on a lot of land. Right now, I have six accounts. The figures in my first post assume, as you did here, that I create enough additional accounts and add them to my group to zero out the tier. That $1728 in annual premium subscription fees is greatly offset by the weekly stipend, which one converts back into $US and applies toward the subscription fees. After taking out an allowance to buy new shoes now and then. :)

Thank you, Nika! I'm not sure yet. Probably something contemporary, a Pacific Northwest seaside sort of thing. The current build there is by Avion Raymaker, and I'm a bit reluctant to just erase it right off. He does awfully nice work, even though it doesn't quite meet our needs.

By the way, the Greek village at Lebettu is no more, but CX and Allegria and their partner Spar have built a really nice Louisiana Bayou build, complete with swamp and shotgun shacks. It's a bit like the changes at Ray's Liome...different owners, different vision, but both great.

(As for who is "we", that would be me, my wife Cindi, our senior wife Evvie, and our sisters Sophie and Leo. Plus my growing army of alts.)

Wow, I never thought of this.. While I don't own all that much land, having three premiums share, where one pays extra $5 a month, would pay off for me it seems.

But it seems to me...

Factoring in the tier jumps.

Let's say av 1 owns the third or fourth tier up in land.

av 2 owns the 2nd or 3rd tier up

av 3 owns the 3rd tier up as well

Would it not have been cheaper at the point more land is bought to have had 1 av own it and pay tier? As opposed to the total cost?

It's the weekly stipend on each av that drops the cost considerably. And of course, the land is donated to a group for the 10% extra allowance, so if you have the AV's anyway, it is worth considering. But it requires a bit of calculation at each tier to figure out which scheme is most cost-efficient.

Congrats, Lindal! I'll be eagerly awaiting your build on the new land, and an invite for sailing! Sounds like a great spot for you.

Thanks for the compliment on our build. Your opinion means a lot to me.. :)

I have been telling people that for over a year. I ran the numbers up to 8192 of land and ended up with quite a few premium alts at the time because of that.

Since Elanthius is still renting tier and I don't mind using that alternative, I have now downgraded all accounts except Lil and rent all of my tier over the 512 as it is even cheaper than the multiple premium alt approach.

Here are my old calcs for a 4096 plot -- multiply as appropriate for bigger sizes (note that the below is based on an exchange rate of L$265 per US$1 but my last few months' worth have been at L$274 per US$1):

One premium @ 22.50/qtr x 4 qtrs = $90.00 / yr
L$300/wk x 52 wks (265 L$ rate) = -58.86 / yr

results in a NET cost of $31.14 per year per premium acct
(31.14 / 52 weeks = .60/wk usd, 31.14 / 12 = 2.60/mth usd)
@265 L$ rate, 8,252 L$ per year net cost
(8252 / 52 weeks = 158/wk L$, 8252 / 12 = 688/mth L$).

So....

4096m

- one premium: 31.14 / yr + $300 ($25 x 12 mths) tier = $331.14 / yr

- four premiums: 124.56 / yr + $180 ($15 x 12 mths) tier = $304.56 / yr

- six premiums: 186.84/ yr + $96 ($8 x 12 mths) tier = $282.84 / yr

- seven premiums: 217.98/ yr + $60 ($5 x 12 mths) tier = $277.98 / yr

- eight premiums: 249.12 / yr + $0 tier = $249.12 / yr

.

ETA -- At the time I did the calcs, I was paying quarterly and it was still cheaper to do the Premium Alt thing. If you pay yearly, it makes it even cheaper.

Oh but when you get into 75 to 125 ('real dollars') and up per alt per month...Does stipend still balance it out?

Wouldn't it be better to own land on one av for 195 USD, instead of 3 or 4 at 125 each?

Not much of a business head (me). sigh.

I wish there were business classes in SL, for SL.

And I just got confused with how the group-land thing works again.. My landowner alt owns 3040sqm, it is all deeded to group, but in the group info it says "Your contribution 1834".

If it is all deeded to the group, then your landowning alt does not really own it anymore -- the group does. If the total land the group owns is 3040 sqm, then the group needs 2764 sqm of tier (2764 + 276 (10 % bonus) = 3040).

So if your contribution is 1834 (this is tier contribution), then someone else (amybe the alt) must be donating the other 930 of tier into the group.
