It would probably be a better idea to let you find it for yourself... if you can't learn how to operate the forums, I am concerned how well you will be able to operate an SL business. A click on Search up above, followed by typing "advice on sales" (without quotes) into the box that opened, turned up the thread in the first page of results.

Or failing that, scroll back through the pages... At the time of writing this, it had fallen back all the way to page 4 - not really that far to go looking...

However, the thread has grown to 179 pages and perhaps your time is better spent reading, so here ya go - a freebie, if you will:

Sorry, it's not a hot link. If you can't work out how to get from here to there, you're on your own.

Gotta go with Nic on this one - there ARE good businesses out there, and the owners of those that HAVE succeeded, and HAVE got the respect (and customer base) among their SL peers, will no doubt testify to the fact that they spent a long time planning, doing, checking, rethinking and replanning - and basically investing of themselves into their business.

Or alternatively, there is the school of thought that you can just throw out a few vendors, any old where, with a few products of any old standard, sit back, and expect the money to roll in. After all, we're all friends in SL aren't we - we're all going to just throw our hard earned Lindens at someone because they made a half hearted effort. Aren't we, though?

just another point...when i first started out, i rented a tiny shop and then did every single free yard sale, market etc i could find. that was a good way for me to find out what was popular etc. Then as i made more money i rented more space. I dont advise going crazy and incurring alot of expense up front like buying land, renting huge spaces, buying alot of gadgets etc. You will only be disappointed.

maybe i should teach a class in how to start with no money like i did...hehe

I'm just starting, and i know exactly what i want to do as a business, but i have NO clue what i'm supposed to do to start it, any help?

Yes...since you are very new, you need to take at the very least a basic level building and scripting class. More advanced classes will help you tremendously. You cant even make a sign or set an item for sale if you dont know the building basics.

Also, research your competition in SL. Find out what they are doing and not doing, check their prices, read the forums for lots of great tips and talk to other biz owners who are in the same field as you to begin your learning process.

Once you have all of that done...then you will be better positioned to start.

LL is touting a book on the main page of the website, "The Entrepreneur's Guide to SL" or some such. It may help you.
