Do you ever wear male clothes on your female avatar or female clothes on your male avatar? Like buying a jacket that says 'men's jacket' and wearing it on your female avatar or taking an earring from a jewelry shop and putting it on your male avatar. Not asking for any confessions or revelations here.

I have used short female hair. There just aren't enough men's styles to go around.

I also tried wearing a female sci-fi type of uniform because I could find no equivalent for a male, but quickly found the breast area was shaded to accentuate the female form. That didn't work at all. I still have the boots though and they fit with a little editing.

No female jewellry though. My pewter earring came in a set of two intended for a male, but I only wear one. Hey I grew up in the 70's and 80's after all. Otherwise I wear no shrapnel in my face nor any tattoos.

I would think the cross dressing works better male to female as in real life. There's something very compelling about a woman in a man's shirt. It seems to imply a steamy story line of some sort.

Yes, frequently. Clothes are clothes, and if it suits me, I'll wear it. I often wear men's clothes in RL as well because they are comfier and have better pockets.

Yes... If they are good clothes or accessories, why worry who they were made for? They are far more likely to fit here than iRL, boob-shading and prim-size problems aside.

I've worn men's suits, hair (I added some bunches to girlify it a bit), jeans, and various bits of sci-fi & gothy stuff. My male alt has worn loads of women's jeans because there are more, better and cheaper than those marketed for men.

Does anyone sell men's shirts that look like a shirt when worn? I agree with Weston, but I've never seen a way of getting the effect right in SL (IMO, for best effect the shirt should be slightly too large, slightly too long and worn with very little else).

This isn't clothing, but...

A few months ago, when a friend asked me to create some static poses for her, she gave me a copy of her shape to get the positioning right. I now wear her shape, when making chairs, to make sure the seat's big enough :D

Nope but only cos they don't look good on my av. Worn unisex hair plenty of times. Wouldn't give a monkeys who gender it was aimed at if it looked ok :)

Notice that answers so far are mainly from the girls ...

Only on Sundays.

Seriously though, only if it's some sort of fantasy/sci-fi/other avatar that is premade as one gender or the other, or, of course, when I become a lycanthropic porcine/hominid and raid the truffle storage. Then, I DEFINITELY wear trousers.

Umm...I have a male...member....that I sometimes wear to adjust poseballs. I look VERY odd with it on.

Sometimes I wear jeans labeled as "male". Just as in RL, male jeans in SL seem to work for either men or women.

Do you really believe that we think about what we wear?

True, Cherry, you were assuming that men think. *grins*

Umm...think about clothes that is. Many of them do seem to think about female avies a lot...

In fact, this sometimes makes me wonder if many of the cognitive facilities of the average male are located in their ... ummm.... member, so if I wear a male member, as I sometimes do to adjust poseballs, then my avies thought process should perhaps be more male......

This question might be better addressed over in another thread

/327/f6/281910/7.html#post2151184

which has veered towards whether using a different gender avatar offers any useful insight into the realities of being a different sex - as well as futile arguments about which are the worst sort of discriminatory phobias.

Pep (After advice on manners from Cherry a long time ago my avatar doesn't wear his member most of the time and his thought processes don't appear any different)

I have a pair of jeans that were apparently designed for a woman. Does that count?

Yep. My favorite prim hair was a 'mens' style, and I have a few formal suits and tuxedos I quite like.

I steal my hubby's t-shirst all the time in RL. Kinda hard to go riffling through his closet in SL, though.

I buy whatever suits my fancy at the moment in SL. If I find a pair of boots I like, I'll buy them if they are mod/copy and then edit them down to a proper size. Like RL, I don't care if they are male or female, if I like the t-shirt I will wear it.

I have been so drawn to the mens clothing, since it looks so much more comfy...I think I'm in for a shopping spree!!!! Especially the shirts... I like having big shirt on my slender body, only a hint of my curves showing.....

All the time, as long as whatever it is doesn't have obviously female shading (ie: breasts shaded onto a t-shirt). Then again, my avatar also been known to wear a flirty schoolgirl outfit, so I cross dress in both senses of the phrase ;)

I have a couple pair of women's jeans. I may or may not have some women's/unisex hair -- I just buy what I think looks good and i went through a lot of hair options until I finally gave up and just picked one.

I do have a full female shape, skin, hair etc in my inventory left over from way back when.

Oh, and my chakat avatar ... I forgot about hir. I think I still have a few corsets and some female hair.

All the time. As far as hair is concerned, I don't even bother thinking "girl/boy"-style. So the model on the vendor is female, big deal. If I like the style, I'll get it.

Same with clothing. I like it, I'll wear it. I avoid items with obvious "breast" shading.

I can also be seen in skirts or dresses, but not half as often as my boyfriend. :p
