In RL I'm a dog. When you're fixed, SL is about the only place to get cheap sex. Not much of a tail anymore, either, but I can wag my stump real fast.

Have to admit, the first week when I kept asking if I could smell their, well, it didn't go well at all.

So, I can relate. I dont have a web Cam or headset but I do have a mic. Its not that good, I think I payed $10 for it. I got it becuase this one guy kept insisting I was a guy. He would say things like "your sure your name isnt Julian instead of JulieAnne?" When I got the mic, he was teasing me in a public forum where we both had friends. So I finally told him to go on to voice and he will hear me. Eagerly, he click on the preference and most of the people that I knew there also did the same.

When I was ready, I said "Can you hear me?" and his responce was how happy he was that he was wrong. My responce was to tell him what a low life he was. The scum of SL to push me into this and never, NEVER IM me or talk with me again. And that goes for anyone else that is listening!!

I have never had to prove myself a girl in that SIM again.

That's the thing though...it's SECOND LIFE, nobody has to prove anything. It is permitted to have a total disconnect.

I wonder how many people (guys or girls) have gone and asked a Neko to prove they have ears and a tail? Or a furry or a mermaid...

Sometimes I'm a pink elephant, nobody has ever asked me to prove that I'm a pink elephant yet! Though that's funny when guys ask for sex and I say sure...then become one. It's surprising how fast they get up off that pose ball. My research has highlighted that nobody loves a pink elephant in stockings.

I agree with whoever said it may be the areas one hangs in who encounters these types of guys. My RL gender has never been questioned in a year of SL nor has anyone asked to voice chat or webcam. They'd be seeing the business end of my newspaper whapper if they did (unless it was a friend with whom I had an already established friendship).

And this happens in other online venues as well. There are the same types floating around IRC that want the same "proof."

One thing that hasn't been talked about yet in this thread is the fact that neither a microphone, nor a webcam, constitutes proof in any way.

You can change your voice very, very easily. http://www.screamingbee.com/product/products.aspx

And you could always have a friend pose in front of a webcam. Or if you're more technically inclined, you could stream a motion-captured 3D simulation instead of your real image. If you use a fairly realistic human model, keep the video size very small, and add an appropriate amount of grain simulate the look of a really low quality webcam, the result could, in theory, be convincing enough.

And the easiest one to fake, the "RL' Pic.

Voice changers don't really work though, you can usually tell that they're fake. They're more for creating vocal effects that would make sense in context than fooling people.

And yes it is a sad truth, that there are some people who will always ask girls to voice and assume they are not girls if they refuse I've never seen the same happen to guys, though. And you're right, all you can do is to ignore those people, or hang out in places where voice is disabled.

I personally believe the only reason why the guys want to know is they are growing attracted
to you and want more, are homophobic.
I tell people straight up if I want more then passing hello who I am, I am bisexual leaning more on gay side and a Transguy who is both genders in rl, sometimes here.
If they have problem with that, I want to know upfront and not want to waste my time.
I feel comfortable doing that but I respect those who don't want to share real life details,
sometimes I wish I was more like that but even there are things I don't share with everyone.
Your true friends won't care if your pixels that match your rl gender nor will pressure you into sex if you're not interested.
Just have fun, do what you're comfortable doing, sharing, you owe nothing to anyone here as Resident to be here.
If they want cam or phone sex they're are woman who do this professionally who will do that if they want to pay for it.
I think it's not very kind to pressure just anyone to do that because there too cheap to pay few thousand lindens to someone who will.

Yeah I hate the people that want people to prove it... had a couple friends just outright quit because of the "aww get on and show me..." crowd.

One of which left simply from annoyance, the other that hurts most... getting on voice wasn't an option, and neither was webcam considering why she could not longer talk amongst other things.

So when you get someone that wants proof, then just walk away...

Maybe someday that culture will pass away, because it doesn't matter who you are in RL... SL is where you come to be something different and do things you can't do in RL.

Being able to talk to others without pity on their faces

I will share most I don't use.

When somone pulls that stunt on me I immediately wonder why there are here on SL and not on Eharmony.com. I mean get real, is SL a dating service? If it is for some people then I am not part of their program and they are headed for mute. Sorry but Second Life is tough.

To all of your surprise, I am a guy in real life. And quite open about 2 real life things: Age and location. That is about it. Well, maybe my job as well, depending on who is asking.

If someone needs proof that I am a guy: screw them. Never webcammed and don't do voice. My voice is too sexy for the average microphone to capture right anyway.

That is the way you should treat this I guess: determine what parts of your RL you want to share, and tell people who think that is not enough, to go and screw themselves. There are more then enough people in SL that are worth your time, don't waste it on some jerk.

If you want to be friends with somebody it doesnt matter who they are in RL.
If you want to be romantic with somebody it DOES matter who they are in RL.

The reason it matters is because romance involves real life feelings and it will only end in heartache for both people if it begins with dishonesty.

Soooo... my advice to you is if you don't want to reveal RL information, don't get romantically involved with someone as you will hurt them.

There are people here looking for RL relationships with people they meet in SL. And for them your RL gender is important. I've known people devastated when their other half suddenly announced they weren't the gender they were pretending to be in SL.

So the first question when any romantic relationship gets serious really needs to be, 'Is this just gonna be an SL thing or are you hoping for it to become a RL maybe someday?'

In the case where two people are both looking for RL love, then swapping pics and chatting in Voice is probably a good idea. Obviously the standard cautions against giving out RL info apply, but this is the scenario when honesty is the best policy.

But the key word above is Relationship!

There's a big subculture of people who are looking for only one thing in SL, a quickie with a total stranger who they never speak to again. But most of these folks are absolutely terrified they'll 'do it' with someone of the same gender as they are. Plus the whole Voice thing is like a sex phone line with zero charges.

So beware the brand new 'friend' who hassles you to _prove_ your gender. Unless you're up for a one night stand or are looking for a no-strings SL sex buddy my advice is tell them to sod off.
