Clarification of PG land?

It follows the letter of the law based on what Colette was able to dig up out of the Knowledge Base. It's definitely not enforced at all. Of course, we know that could change overnight around here.

Im beginning to wonder if thats part of the age verification plan.

Since so many places violate the letter of the LL definition DURING the time they were placed ... Those who have such content really wouldn't have a TOS/CS leg to stand on.

Funny, I am on PG sim that has ad farms displaying very sexual graphics...and an AR on that got no result, but I can't make love to my husband on my own land, in my own bedroom in IM.

AR them again. In fact tell us where these indecent ads are on this PG sim so we can all AR them.

I don't have a citation, so I could be mis-remembering this, but I thought that some Linden had clarified somewhere along the line that non-PG things (like sex poseballs) were not allowed on PG land even if they were hidden in your "private" place behind closed doors. The reason is that someone could use their camera to peer inside there and encounter the forbidden content.

Behaviour is considered a kind of content -- everything you see and do in SL is part of the experience, and is therefore content. And content is regulated on PG land. The thing about not even having non-PG "content" in IMs must be about approaching people when you are both on a PG parcel. By standing on a PG parcel, you are saying that you don't want to participate in non-PG conversations. Obviously if only one of you is not on the PG parcel, then all bets are off. And obviously, that rule is not any guarantee of avoiding all content that you may disagree with; it's just a guideline that addresses some scenarios.

As far as I know, the Linden's don't generally enforce any of these things in the absence of an Abuse Report. Land owners probably enforce the PG rules more often, by ejecting and banning people. Of course, whenever the next media expose comes along and gets some powerful entity (government or watch group or hypothetical investor) upset, they will run around and appear to Do Something About It as necessary.

Otherwise, I believe their theory is that it's not their business, and antithetical to creativity and free expression, which is entirely the basis of their business.

given that LL pretty much does not read IM chat logs without a good reason (AR legal entity enquiry) it woul dbe pretty hard to enforce the chat part of it. Unless someone acidentally hit the public chat instead of the IM. (been there done that was mortally embarased...thankfully not in PG).

The behind closed doors part for mature makes sense. Its about the only way to ensure the casual bypasser cant see anything objectionable from PG looking over a boarder to mature. By casual I mean not TRYING to see into builds etc.

I do think there will be some crackdown coming with the age verification. Alot of it is going to come from residents themselves reporting offending items. We have already seen how far some residents will go to report those in violation of newly enacted rules (gambling being a good example where there seemed to be witch hunts for awhile).

I always thought the rules were a bit stringent. In Particular the not even in IM rule. But if LL does as I think they will in the future and restrict non age verfieds to PG then the rules begin to make more sense. If its illegal in IM then anyone doing it in IM is in violation, no leg to stand on, so if an AR comes in from someone who recieved unwanted sexual chat in IM they can act without a hesitation. Restricting whats in plain view in mature ensures objectionable content will not be casually viewable from PG.

I have long suspected LL wants to roll the Teen grid and main grid together. Until they have a handle on enforcing the rules and have at least a token age verification in place they can't legally do it.
