Yeah, well, I like Pink Floyd, what can I say.

Anyway, I love to travel by helicopter. I have a really well-scripted one, and I've taken lots of folks for rides in lots of pretty places. It's a great way to explore the grid!

The issue is that I have no warning when crossing a full parcel. I'm cruising along, only to suddenly find myself without my helicopter, my passenger or a parachute. The farther I have to fly, the greater my chances of hitting some parcel that's at a full prim count - making air travel over long distances impossible, no matter the altitude I choose.

What I'd like is for regions to ignore prims that exceed the prim limit of a parcel if the prims are above a certain altitude for a set period of time, say 350m and 30 seconds. That's more than enough time to pilot your way across an entire region.

Below that altitude or for longer than that time, the server should do what it does normally (toss my vehicle into my Lost and Found, leaving my still-sitting avatar to fend for himself sans aircraft).

A warning that I'm crossing a full parcel would also be nice, in case I decide to hover to look at something interesting. :)

This may show my ignorance of SL air vehicles, but: can you have the Mini-Map up? and see masses of green dots? (For all I know it doesn't work at high altitudes...)

I can, yes, although my helicopter works best for me in mouselook mode.

However, avatars on the property aren't the issue. A region already full of prims won't let my helicopter fly over it - I exceed the prim count, and my helicopter gets returned to me while I'm flying it. Rather disconcerting. :(

I have no answer, just wanted to cast my vote for Pink Floyd... which one's Pink?

I become separated from what ever I am flying quite frequently. Never figured out how to avoid it even slowing way down on sim crossings.

Last week while flying with my Tarn I dumped Hera into an extreme fetish store. :p

Well, at least your aim is good.

No, speed has nothing to do with it ... nor does altitude. If you're cruising at 5000m and you hit a full parcel, seeya later.

Ghosty once dumped me into a Neko sex playground of sorts. Not from his helicoptor tho, it was from a ride he built. Landed with my boobs hanging out completely. Yea, I do have a picture of that one

Now alot of times I will pull up the full map once in awhile to see if there is anything like a full sim ahead of me then try to go around it. I don't generally fly in mouselook though.

Ahh, I should take you for a ride in my custom. :D Mouselook is the way to go, it's great. But I can "zoom out" to look at the map and so forth.

My alt flies aircraft and he maps out the route first before taking passengers. Things can change, but it should be good for a while.

There are no-script parcels that tend to make you just freeze in mid air too. Something is causing it anyway . . .

Best song on that album, IMO (although I love 'Dogs of War' too).

Regarding the problem, can you maybe find a helicopter or other flying vehicle that's wearable as opposed to rideable? Prims that you're wearing don't count toward a parcel's total prim limit, so if you could find something like that then the 'parcel full' problem would go away.

Possible, but I enjoy actual vehicles much more. Unlike attachments, vehicles respond to physics and are a HELL of a lot more fun to pilot because of the way a well-scripted vehicle behaves.

I know there are folks out there who firmly believe an attachment can be a vehicle, but I'll need to see some hard-core LSL documentation to alliviate me of my apparent delusion. ;)

Pink isn't well, he stayed back at the hotel. And he sent us along, as a surrogate band. We're going to find out where you fans REALLY stand!

I love my Mouselook AH6. I'm still getting the hang of mouselook flying, it is a bit tricky. But it is fun. The various impediments to aircraft flying is one of the biggest frustrations in SL for me.

Well, I don't know where you ride, but if you stick to the mainland roads that shouldn't ever be an issue. On private sims ... who knows.

I use a set of wings in-world that have their own scripted physics engine. They use the principle of turning of the default 'up down to fly' option. Then, to flap the wings I press jump, this elevates me and, whilst moving forward, I glide. When I get lower I simply flap the wings again, or if I want to higher. This gives for a realistic winged flight experience, it's great fun and quite an art to master! I had great fun learning to use it and there are still some things I've yet to master :P

Issues with flying over crowded mainland is the reason I live on the edge of a large lake. (I think it was the largest before the Blake sims.)

I STILL have various issues, mostly related to border crossing.

I'd like to be able to actually TRAVEL to places in my spaceship house, or at least take its shuttle.

Instead its usually in parking orbit over the beach.

Uh-uh. Too complex, and unnecessary.

There's already a better way of handling this, and has been for years. Vehicles are already NOT counted against the parcel limit, or region limit. Really, they aren't. Never have been since they implemented parcel-based prim limits. There's a 1500 prim reserve on every sim just for vehicles and attachments and other temporary prims.

The problem is that people started abusing this reserve using temp-rezzed prims, so LL put in some extra code to try and cut down on it. Unfortunately, that code has screwed up vehicles. They've been trying to fix the fix, but there's still one case where it breaks. That's crossing from one sim to another, because the vehicle gets handed across before the avatar does, so the new sim doesn't know it's a vehicle.

There are no-script parcels that tend to make you just freeze in mid air too.
No-script shouldn't effect a vehicle unless the vehicle is very badly coded. The vehicle script (the one that takes control input from the user) is immune to no-script. The only thing that would break that is if you did something like having the control script and the flight script in separate scripts.

I have the same problem on ground vehicles. A couple seconds of lag and I'm off the road. And of course at ground level you get ban lines to deal with as well.

A couple of times I've ended up stuck between two sets of ban lines. Can't move at all.

Problem in, there are a number of ways to make something move. Vehicles can be worn, physical or nonphys. I can understand why my spaceship house shouldn't be considered a vehicle (even tho it flies quite nicely,) but why not my shuttle, which IS under the 32 prim limit, even tho it's also non phys?
