Yes! It's really a lot of fun. Many people and businesses are planning to 'shut off' tonight at 8pm. Even the huge lighted cross on the mountain will go dark, (Le Mont-Royal is our version of Central Park - designed by the same man).
We're only about 3 million in this city, (not as big as say New York) but I always love city-wide events. People really get into it. I'm pretty sure there will be many going out on there balconies to 'share' the moment with there neighbours. I know, kind of mushy...
It might seem like a drop in the bucket, but it also helps us realize how we take many things (light, t.v. puter, heat, microwave) for granted. You don't have to agree or disagree with what is said on Global Warming to join in.
Here is a list of partner cities,
* Aalborg » * Aarhus » * Adelaide » * Atlanta » * Bangkok » * Bogota » * Brisbane » * Canberra » * Chicago » * Christchurch » * Copenhagen » * Darwin » * Dublin » * Hobart » * Manila » * Melbourne » * Montreal » * Odense » * Ottawa » * Perth » * Phoenix » * San Francisco » * Santa Cruz » * Suva and Lautoka » * Sydney » * Tel Aviv » * Toronto » * Vancouver »

Unfortunately wierd things happen when the lights go out in New York, so it's probably a good idea they stay on.

From: Stephen Wisent Maybe we should petition LL to shut down SL too for a while. I'm certain that you can take this with a pinch of salt, but the following article claims that an avatar consumes almost as much electricity as an average Brazilian. http://www.roughtype.com/archives/2006/12/avatars_consume.phpI was at HIP a couple of months ago and a Linden was there discussing helping fight global warming by reducing the number of prim trees people used. We decided to do our part by clear cutting sl.

My whole town is in on it, too. Fortunately we don't have a whole lot of crime here but I think I'll make sure my doors are locked before I go out for my Earth-hour party.
There is a bit of a fall-out from this one-hour shutdown in that, after having turned off that basement light that's been burning since you took the laundry out this morning, you might not turn it back on. So, even after that hour, hopefully only essential lights are re-lit (well until tomorrow's trip to the basement)
Like Isabeau said, it's nice when a whole town gets together on things. Too bad we don't do it for more far-reaching improvements for this planet.

It's nice when people all over the world get together on something, too.

i wasn't really being serious..i remember getting emails like that one to do the big gas out a few years back..well one of them anyways..i think there were a few of them.. i kind of sighed actually..it was funny watching my grandfather get excited over the big savings about to come to him when this major hit to the oil companies would happen. i can see him now counting all the savings.. it had about as much impact as beating them with a feather and my grandfather wondering when the money would start to flow lol i also remember getting emails about global warming and the dramatic unstable climate changes.. the earth is at an all time low in CO2 gases..i just don't think something irregular is going on with the earth climate..we just got out of a cooling period and now we are in a warming period.. like a famous comedian said once..the earth is not the one that is in trouble,it will be here long after we are gone..it's us that are screwed lol.. But it is nice to see people organize and get together on things..

All my past lives were lived in ages before electricity, so I've done more than my share.

From: Brenda Connolly Unfortunately wierd things happen when the lights go out in New York, so it's probably a good idea they stay on. I remember that. I'm not even from NY but I happened to be in town for the last big blackout. My host and I had the 12 midnight - 2 am patrol of the neighborhood. Dead silence. A window shattered somewhere and we could all hear it. A man with a thick Brooklyn accent yelled at the breaker of the window. And overhead, a spotlight from a helicopter highlighted the general area. Other than that, it was eerily quiet and serene. Then the lights came back on, and with them came the noise.
