I watched it again and it hit me - I think it makes SL look ridiculous.

I mean no disrespect to anyone out there who has a SL relationship and those who have one with a real life relationship, but I think the vast majority of people who watch this and hear him explain that he's married with children yet has a SL partner also will think he and everyone else in SL is nuts.
Really? Lol. I had the distinct impression that the reporter on the story would be logging in after work to see wtf he just reported on.

Is ridiculous that bad? I think LOTS of folks with unsatisfactory RL relationships may see that story as a hint that maybe there's some sort of satisfaction lurking in SL. I think a lot of SL denizens feel that, when they're at home, alone in a room, why NOT do something which may be ridiculous if it makes their emotional lives a little more interesting?

You live in LA, Bradley. Know anyone who likes drama, just to add a little fizz to their life?

I just found this post. I see my good friend Perse was busy. I can add a bit of relevence that may enlighten those who find themselves in similar situations with the press. I had learned through experience to be as inquisitive before hand about how a reporter or producer intends to frame an article or expose prior to agreeing to participate.

I am human and I do enjoy attention as most humans do, but I too am tired of the visirile animousity of the press towards Second Life. If it isnt the "Get a life Geek"..it's the "OMG, a bunch of virtual bigamists/ageplayers/pervs" meme. I had the prestige in this situation ( because it was local) to direct the intent of this piece. Interestingly enough the crew had to do two shoots to accomplish this. The producer was not pleased with the emphasis of the original content and came back with the reporter and gave directions like "Do you have a romantic setting".."Can they dance and/or kiss" etc.

Those that truly know me irl from other platforms, endearing relationships that span decades, know my agenda. It's very easy to dismiss our content as pornographic or salacious. However, I know that I am a spiritual person. It is our spirit that guides us to persue the depths of our desires. Not just sexual, but abiding connections that transcend bits and bytes. When I sit behind my monitor with friends in Second Life, I imagine their voices, their families, the day to day tasks and ironies that binds us as humans. It is and always has been the motivating factor behind my endeavors.

Second Life gives me the opportunity to remind this old soul that I am already there.

I only base my reaction on the ones I get when I start talking about SL to people. Most look at me like I'm absolutely insane (which isn't far from the truth). Standing back and looking from the outside in it looked to me like the report was the same way. I had heard about SL and had no interest in it whatsoever. I thought it sounded absurd. It was only after an article was printed in the national magazine for my church that my curiosity got the best of me. I still think it's absurd, but damn fun.

I agree that good or bad it's going to get a lot of people interested enough to have a look and that could only be a good thing.

As for anyone who likes drama? I guess I could contact my ex. :D Our life together was nothing but drama. Thankfully, I've grown up since then....well, maybe a little.

Someone mentioned the report was about Stroker and not SL. That's true, but obviously SL stood out as well. None of my comments have been a criticism of SL or Stroker. I have nothing but respect for his success.

Oooohhh LOL first bling....I get it. I guess if I were making that kind of income off of my work in SL I'd be wearing their logo too.....but at this point..OMG if I wore anything that had any kind of SL stuff on it....my fiance would have me institutionalized. LOL
The people who get it, 'get it'. The ones who don't....never will. *sigh*

I have to say tho....the statement about being 'more honest' due to lack of a physical relationship.....is really kind of a sad observation about the way human beings relate to one another. We can't be honest unless we're hidden behind pixels. That's disturbing...I understand it totally....I've been in chat rooms and on web forums for years and I know that often times we can relate easier to an impartial stranger......someone who has no vested interest in us.....someone who can walk away unaffected.... But then that leaves an emptiness still unfilled doesn't it.
OMG I'm waxing philisophical.... somebody slap me. LOL

Milla, I get the question of "virtual bigamy" a lot. One thing I am disapointed about in the Fox 13 piece is that they cut the comments immediately following the "..not like its a physical relationship" I said that my RL and SL partners have spoken at length about me as women do. I guess they took that as sexist *shrug*

Not unusual for news reports to cut comments where it's convienent. One of the dangers. You did a great job in the interview.

Ohhhh I love that, do you mind if I use it?
I always wonder about what my friends are doing too while they are in sl. Sitting on a chair, the couch, their bed. Are they eating, drinking or doing the laundry. I don't think of them as avi's, I think of them as the people that they are. I do believe that being spiritual is one of the most important things to be in sl.

I did get my ass kicked by some woman one day. She pointed out to me that I was in a naughty sim and I had the word "God" in my profile and found that wrong. I pointed out to her that it was indeed God that gave us our sexuality and found nothing wrong with it. That it is all in how you use it. She soon changed her mind.
