Our good friend Stroker Serpentine (Sex Gen) was featured on the local Tampa Fox News channel 13 this week. Well, it's local for me, because he lives just minutes away from me. But you will all enjoy this piece. Stroker looks great, and the piece did a nice job to show just how amazing Second Life can be. He even demonstrated some of his animation technology including his motion capture suit. Congrats Stroker!

That's a great piece. Doesn't demonize, isn't salacious, is very informative.

It is about time someone did a media spot about SL and the intimacy part of it without making it seem sleazy and cheap.

That was very good. Nice job, Stroker!

And amazing restraint on the part of Fox News.

(Now THERE'S a sentence I could never have forseen myself saying in a thousand years).

It was a well done piece. I got a chuckle trying to look at it from the perspective of someone not familiar with SL. I think most the general public will be as confused and curious as the two reporters were.

I'm happy to hear them report 12 million users, which is the number based on the past 60 days. While we know those numbers are inflated with alts and bots, it's much better than the days when reports would quote the total users since the beginning of SL.

Did you notice his choker? It had the SL hand logo!!!

This little blip is gonna raise a lot of curiousity.....people see things on the news and it's like god spoke to them....lol seriously... you could tell some folks all day long about SL....and they wont even register a response....but let em see it on the news...and suddenly it becomes 'real' or cool and they gotta check it out.
I read about SL in Playboy...a tiny little blurb in the back of an 06 issue.....I was totally fascinateed...I had to know.. lol

yes! that's called a First Bling necklace Milla, and i wear one daily too :)

Go Kevin Go Kevin! You're my HERO animator in SL. I love when he says "it's not a physical relationship...you can be more HONEST" amen, thank you, you just made my day by representing us online lovers realistically and intelligently.

Stroker deserves every ounce of fame and fortune, in light of what he's been through with the lawsuits...I hope he continues to rock our pixels for many many years to come :D

Not only was it nice to not see it from a sensationalized point of view, but that the reporters were restrained in their interest - yet you could see the one guy behind the desk was just itching to get home...

On the First Bling thing- there has been some not so positive commentary on the thing- and I will admit right here right now I have one. It is a cute little silver charm - nothing huge or over the top, very subtle. I have a friend that has one he carries on his key fob. And a nice Resident gave me one the other day for my avi :)

That was really really positive. I confess I am one for keeping RL and SL as separate as possible, but I was very happy to see the man behind Stroker Serpentine. He seems like a very genuine and thoughtful person. I wish him continued success in SL.

Oooohhh LOL first bling....I get it. I guess if I were making that kind of income off of my work in SL I'd be wearing their logo too.....but at this point..OMG if I wore anything that had any kind of SL stuff on it....my fiance would have me institutionalized. LOL
The people who get it, 'get it'. The ones who don't....never will. *sigh*

I have to say tho....the statement about being 'more honest' due to lack of a physical relationship.....is really kind of a sad observation about the way human beings relate to one another. We can't be honest unless we're hidden behind pixels. That's disturbing...I understand it totally....I've been in chat rooms and on web forums for years and I know that often times we can relate easier to an impartial stranger......someone who has no vested interest in us.....someone who can walk away unaffected.... But then that leaves an emptiness still unfilled doesn't it.
OMG I'm waxing philisophical.... somebody slap me. LOL

There are also many people who have social dysfunctions preventing them from reaching out in a real world (i.e. the thought of dating scares them, shopping in crowds freaks them out, even what should be a quiet trip to the museum can be very scary). Physical interaction with an unknown environment is a very real, and unfortunate, condition for many. Throw onto that an intimate relationship and you have a breeding ground for terror.

But, give them the comfort of their own home and the ability to shut down the PC if they wish, and suddenly they're able to reach out and do things they couldn't. It's my actual hope that this will provide encouragement to transfer that bolstered self confidence into real life for these people.

I actually see SL as a strong potential for healing in addition to being the entertainment source that it is.

But I don't think it reflects badly of us that we feel we can be more open and daring when not face to face. The same can be said for the days of yestercentury when letters allowed the same kind of honesty and divulging thoughts.

Probably can't say it for most, but I think the dude looks better in RL than his fantasized AV.

That was great. I actually like the guy. I assumed all along it was just a creepster who got lucky and did the business right when he saw what he had. Nah, this guy is for real. Good for him. Go, Stroker!

(And I don't even do cybersex.)

He does have a few pieces of furniture that just contain Cuddle poses.

Okay, I'm going to throw it out there and probably get lambasted for it. I enjoyed the video at first but something was nagging at me. I watched it again and it hit me - I think it makes SL look ridiculous.

I mean no disrespect to anyone out there who has a SL relationship and those who have one with a real life relationship, but I think the vast majority of people who watch this and hear him explain that he's married with children yet has a SL partner also will think he and everyone else in SL is nuts. The vast majority of people out there just don't get it and I don't think this news report will help them to get it at all. Maybe their not the ones who would come to SL anyway, but had I seen this before I logged in, I probably wouldn't have ever bothered.

I'll still say I like the way the report was handled. It was not a negative report at all the way it was handled by the station.

I noticed that too, but I have been in the store before and I think they both work in there. Business partner maybe. I wonder if she owns her own $40,000 suit like he does. Someone has to make the other half of the poseballs, unless he plays both pink and blue.

OMG you made me go back and watch again and I laughed. Watch it again from the perspective of the general public, as if you've never seen SL before. They never explain poseballs at all but they did describe his $40,000 suit. I think when the reporter says he's made 6 figures selling to thousands that people are going to think that thousands are buying this expensive suit from him.

I guess they could have thrown in some other aspects of SL, but it was about him.
I talked to him once, he seemed like a nice guy.
Maybe it motivates ppls to come check out the insta what "we can't show" intimate bla bla...
But I think some, if not most of any of the ppls that joined and stayed, would end up doing/enjoying other things too in SL.

It's funny when I joined, the About and Sign Up part of SL website,
was like a happie happie j0y j0y ...no elusions to any! sex pretty much to SL lol
