It's happening now. It's a religious string and there is stress.

Correction: it's a religious thread and there is a great deal of ignorant prejudice masked as concern for the quite fictional equanimity of the Forum.

It was my opinion, Aeslyn, not an insult. Looking back over this thread, 70% of it - including a few of my posts, I'm sorry to admit - could be deleted without detracting from the subject proposed by the OP. The excess amounts to an entirely irrelevant barney with the house troll here, and quite a few posters speculating about the flammable potential of the subject without having anything in particular to contribute to it. I made a fair comment and weighed my choice of words carefully: that is just so much whinging and it is contemptible. In fact they do but it seems that won't happen here.
Instead of whinging about what you perceive as whinging, why don't you put your money where your mouth is, Ephraim, and start a thread that asks what people think about <insert religion here> in SL - making it clear that you are interested in the subject, rather than looking to get material for republishing as a class assignment? I promise I will stay out of it as long as it remains on topic. Now *there's* an offer you can't refuse, eh?

Calling people names...again. Isn't going to get you anywhere, I thought we'd work-shopped this one, lol.

Are you perceiving "ignorant prejudice" from those who "you" disagree with by any chance?

I don't think you can, Pep. When you're not posting snide remarks, your contributions tend to be idle nonsense such as the one above or nitpicking bullshit about other posters' grammar and usage, a fairly good example of which you regaled us with on this very thread.

Is your job really so dull? Or are you just resting for the next big Hollywood production? Either way, it's cheap of you to persist in rubbing other people's noses in your sh%t.

/me tiptoes out of the thread before anyone notices he has visited.

Tiptoe out. Stomp back in.

I think is maybe a song or poem in this. A yearning even. Maybe even a love story.

Having a bad day Ephraim?

Pep (is having a good one; and funny you should say that - the last movie I was in was "In The Line Of Fire" with Clint Eastwood)

Can you recommend one?

On my experience of you, Pep, I have to say no.

I couldn't recommend you to anyone or vice versa.

I'll take that as a no then.

I meant that I understand why people don't like talking about religion, I just don't see a rational reason why. I was hoping, since I am a student and not just a random person who came here to set the place on fire, that I could get some collected rational answers. I guess people on SL are just as ignorant as everywhere else. Also, if you think I haven't tried to get answers to those questions in SL, you are wrong. I have and it hasn't been very helpful, so I thought I would turn to a forum where people have more time to think about and formulate their answers. Thanks anyway. You can go back to trolling the thread now.

For goodness sake. The overwhelming number of posters in this thread addressed the issue. There are many insightful comments and opinions offered here, Im sorry if that wasnt enough for you, and that you felt the need to troll your own post.

Your av was made on the 25 of April 09, it might take more than 3 days inworld to find what you need.

Most people here aren't ignorant to say they are is just simple rudeness. If you had looked you'd have found discouragement of surveys in other threads. Emotive subjects have been closed off.

As quite a few people tried to say here surveys, religion politics etc aren't encouraged. Sorry you didn't like some peoples answers... good luck with your education.

Er, not true, although it's a criticism of Roman Catholicism I've heard often via the internet.

Catholics most certainly can pray directly to God and ask for His intervention; they always could. We simply believe in the power of saints to intercede on our behalf. Apples and oranges, really.

I suppose I should have clarified... I didn't mean daily prayer, which, you're right, non-clergy are certainly encouraged to do...

from Sacrosanctum Concilium ("Vatican II";): "12. The spiritual life, however, is not limited solely to participation in the liturgy. The Christian is indeed called to pray with his brethren, but he must also enter into his chamber to pray to the Father, in secret (29); yet more, according to the teaching of the Apostle, he should pray without ceasing (30)."

When I said "ritual prayers" I meant the actual ceremony of the Mass and the Sacrament and all that. Before Vatican II, Mass was often performed facing away from the congregation, in Latin, in such a way that the congregation was more of a spectator than a participant. That's what Vatican II changed (see Ch. 3 Section III of the Vatican II text.) Regarding prayer... "Moreover, the prayers addressed to God by the priest who presides over the assembly in the person of Christ are said in the name of the entire holy people and of all present." whereas, presumably, before this statement, prayers were NOT said in the name of "the entire holy people and all present."

Etc, etc. I don't want to quote all of Vatican II. Certainly, you ARE right in that ordinary man has always been encouraged to pray... I merely meant that before VII, priests did things differently.

Either way, presumably, an actual Mass would be impossible in SL.

And none of this has anything to do with Islam. My apologies to the OP. :o
