Bored Out of My Skull!

I used to geocache and navicache in RL tons of fun.

No need to go such extremes as spending time in real life just in order to fill time outside of SL if SL is not making it for you. There's Active Worlds, Cybertown, Hipihi, Novoking, Playdo, Roblocks,and many other virtual worlds and 3D chats to try. Or you could go to mashable.com and go to the invites section and ask for invites to every single one of the choices.

if you start seriously into sailing you might want something that has as little prims and/or scripted attachments as possible...

Lance... if you saw me try and steer an RL boat.... OK- I will take a look see in SL for it- could be fun .

John... It was almost midnight my time.. not the safest time to attempt and experience RL - other than via bed sheets which I did.. my bed was very surprised to see me so early.

Other virtual worlds.. well, I had created an account in OpenLife.. see that thread around here somewhere.. as a lark to see what the dawn of civilization was like - sadly, all I have managed is to keep my skirt on. I had created an account at the RedLight thing but never signed on since sex as a goal in and of it self is completely un-appealing. Active Worlds wants money - already very heavily invested in SL so not about to fork money over anywhere else... not fond of killing monsters and such, so that leaves out the big games like WoW, etc.

- I have come to the conclusion.. only SL is SL and all my non-RL friends are here - so... next time boredom strikes- I will sleep or do some RL house cleaning.

However- glad I asked, because I do want to try some of these things The skirt making idea is tempting - co clue how to get started so will look for a class on clothes tonight Thanks again everyone!

Well there's always never-ending inventory to organize! But its sometimes hard to be bored in SL. When I'm bored it's usually time to log off or something is bothering me in SL.

LMAO! I am sooo gonna take the partner for a ride next time he logs in....

Go to Caledon, wait at a railway station, and take the train. There are something like 16 sims that make up Caledon, and the train gives you a guided tour round all of them.

Or you can log a second session in with an alt and talk to yourself, beat yourself up, or have .... no, let's not go there.

Go to mandhari island/128/128/25 (flying, its over open water) and look at the boat with the sunset on the sails on the north-west beach of the laguna. Click on it twice to get a demo of it. when you try it out near any official windsetter, you will get a blue menu asking you something about fun mode, novice mode, competition mode or expert... STAY IN FUN MODE for the first few tries!!

My boyfriend and I were looking for something new to do last night. Event search found a demolition derby! So we bought the 75L$ demo cars and entered. It was lots of fun. Afterwards we attended an event held by a friend on the Cookie sim. He had created a scripted game called Fictionary, based on the old game where an obscure word is chosen from the dictionary and all the players write a definition for it. Points are given if you fool people into picking your definition as accurate, or if you pick the actual definition. About 15 avatars were there and everyone had a great time. It may become a scheduled event.

Anyway... the point is..something search will come up with something. I love everyone's ideas as well!

Oh gosh...my question is the opposite: How to find the time to do everything I want to do in SL. I can never imagine being bored!!

One thing is I am involved in a lot of varied activities:

*On a Relay for Life Team - there are activities constantly going that could keep me busy day and night with that alone

*I have always said in RL I would love to be a "Professional Student" and in SL I can be. I take on average 2-3 classes a day.

*In addition to taking classes, I now teach with ^ASL^ - Academy of Second Life. Preparing and refining lesson plans takes a lot of time an then the actual classes.

*Due to the above, I have begun spreading my wings a bit in building and selling a few of my items. That gets into a whole other realm of time needed to build, take photos for my vendors, publicize, etc.

*I own a VKC dog and go to weekly training classes - lots of fun there

*I have recently become involved with a church of my particular faith. Another set of ongoing activities there and great people I'm meeting.

*Quests - I completed the Pothealer's Quest, am in the middle of The Broken Harp Quest and want to begin the Mata Hari Quest.

*Organize inventory. No matter how I try to keep it neat, one day of going to a class or a bit of shopping and it needs sorting again.

*Involved with another social group that always have something going on. Most of the time I get IM's and have to reluctantly say I'm busy due to al of the other things I've listed.

Those are some of the things I do when in world without my partner. When he is in world with me, our activities are endless: dancing, horseback riding, love to go in character to Japanese sims and Medieval sims, ride roller coasters, etc., etc.

Whew...I'm tired now.

Hmmm I usually just jump around, open the map and look for busy places and see what they have, meet new people. Doesnt work so well when SL crashes. I also have some friends I meet in SL who we exchange emails and chat and such. Of course, it really sucks when my friends are all on other time zones and not available. lol

10 - Sort your inventory - ok, I know this sounds like a terrible punishment or something, but you know it needs doing, and if you are REALLY bored........

9- Go to the Welcome Area - ideally in an unusual avatar, always someone to talk to there - have a good natter with old friends, or make interesting new ones

8- Check the events list - yeah, we all know it is mostly pseudo-yard-sales and crappy 'Grand Openings' that are neither grand, nor often actual openings, but there are gems, if you look hard enough

7- Learn something new! - never tried scripting? Then go grab some freebie scripts and try changing a few of the settings. Never tried making hair? Hop on a posing stand and stick some prims on your head, see what happens. Never tried... well, you get the general idea

6- Make a list of 'Got To See Places' - search for some potential terms, might I suggest 'garden, explore, temple and magical' for starters - then go visit any places you think sound interesting. If they still seem interesting when you arrive, landmark them! Pop all the landmarks in a folder, and label it clearly. Now you have your own collection of places to check out properly at a later date (perhaps with friends). This is a good one to share with others too - trade landmark folders, see the world!

5- Shopping - stop groaning! This is a valid suggestion. How about checking out somewhere you have never been before. If you go somewhere where there are other avatars and right click on someone's hair, for example, you can choose 'more, more, inspect' from the Pie menu and find out who made it. Then you can go check their store - a great way of finding new places to shop.

4- Play with toys - ooh, I know what you are thinking, you rude lot. I am referring to all the cool gadgets in SL. Amongst my personal favorites are interactive pets, fun vehicles, complex avatar-enhancements (like Mystitool or Avpack) and holodecks. There are plenty of free ones available, and even more if you don't mind investing in your entertainment. And forgive me for being incredibly girly and pointing out that I love shopping for gadgets as much as I enjoy playing with them. Ah, and don't forget weapons - few things as satisfying as chasing a (concenting!) friend around then blasting them to kingdom come There are quite a few roleplaying sims if you want someone to play with.

3- Have an 'Alternative Avatar Day' - Usually a leggy blonde? Always wear your 'trademark' hair? Why not try being uber-different for the day? Poke about in your inventory for those clothes you have hardly worn, mix and match from different outfits. Re-tint some (copyable!) hair, or simply treat yourself to a new avatar. What, you have NEVER tried being a furry or a tiny? Where you been???? Quite apart from the possibilty that you will discover a cool new look, you can have a lot of fun running around as a salamander, or a huge dragon, or a cute little ferret, or a mecha, or a cuckoo clock - or whatever you fancy

2- Get Mobile - not phones, vehicles! Yes, we all know that SL physics can be somewhat sucky, but they are still fun! There are loads of free vehicles, and some amazing ones for sale. Flying is tricky but very rewarding when you get better at it. Boats are my personal favorite - whether it be a sexy speedboat, a cheeky semi-rigid or a sailboat that really used the SL winds - its fun!!!!

1- Build- ok, I like building, I never get bored of it, though sometimes I am not sure what to do next. If in doubt I just rez a cube and start poking it about until inspiration hits.

Use search and look for live music or a discussion

I play the games in my arcade when I am bored, or go fishing in the fishing hole

if those things do not keep me entertained I log out and enjoy RL (or catch up on housework hehe)

The arcade is free to play so no worries about it costing anything, and the games can be addicitive

sad thing is... hardly anyone uses it (I seriously thought a free arcade would draw in folks who just like to kick back and have fun)

I will give it another month or so, and if it is still not being uses I will downsize it drastically and use the land for something else or just use it for the prims



same with the fishing hole... surprised no one uses it
if it remains unused I will remove it and just put the ducks in a small pond by the store...
