I hope not, Windlight is one of the best features to be touted for a long, long time.

It was suppose to be released already. But it seems like they are waiting until after this new login feature.

They got busy ressurecting Havoc 4 after we forgot all about it. Forget about windlight and it will appear.

Ok, what about out crappy looking avatars, will they update the mesh at some point, i think the arms look really wierd, the upper arm is to long & avatar faces look a bit out of place, also the neck has strange lumps where it joins the shoulder and when your building, if you turn your arm goes thru your head, lol

some basic things like that they need 2 fix

oh yeh & i nearly forgot, is it just my PC, or is it when you run, you run like a complete spaz, as a posed to when your walking you walk like a bit of a spaz, lol

A very famous and helpful Linden (I'd probably be OK to mention name but I won't as we're not supposed to on here!) has posted a lot of screenshots on their Flickr site that have been taken with Windlight. So it's obviously still going strong. Some of the effects are brilliant and when it gets real shadows added too, we will have a more beautiful world than RL!! OK, perhaps not totally, but in parts.

As for avatar appearance - I'm happy with mine and there are lots of other well 'crafted' ones about too. It is only really the more extreme movements that need to be tidied up.

It should be there as soon as they are confident it is good enough for release.. If you read the project update on Torley Linden's wiki page, I think it is ready for a new 'firslook' soon:

That's a lot harder to address without breaking content. The whole "fashion industry" depends on the UV map staying the same, at least, and animations require that the skeleton stay as-is, so the mesh could be refined, maybe, but anything drastic would cause an uproar. As for that point-to-build animation, it can be overridden: in some high-priority anims, the avatar doesn't do the "my pretty cube dance."

But I *like* that look! (Well, anyway, compared to every running AO I've tried, which tend to make me look like OJ in an old Hertz ad.)

From what I've heard, though, the fashion industry would be pretty happy if they'd at least fix the I'm-smuggling-a-puppy-in-here system skirt mesh.

Sigh, people are so silly with how they misinterpret the "no names" concept.

The Linden staff member that posts lots of Windlight pictures is Torley Linden.

Torley's Flickr page is at http://www.flickr.com/photos/torley/with/508035375 .

Torley's Windlight Flickr set is at http://www.flickr.com/photos/torley/sets/72157600883123211 .

Said famous and helpful Linden, in office hours, has made it clear dat Windlight is indeed coming soon. Weeks, even.

So no, not scrapped.

That ALWAYS reminds me of the Divine Comedy song about National Express, the UK coach service:

On the national express there's a jolly hostess
Selling crisps and tea
She'll provide you with drinks and theatrical winks
For a sky-high fee
Mini-skirts were in style when she danced down the aisle
Back in 63
But it's hard to get by when your arse is the size
Of a small country

(Especially the last two lines, obviously!)

But yeah, I want Windlight back! I want fancy skies and clouds and eerie colours! I want to fiddle with the setting!

The best answer I don't mind getting is: it will come out when it's ready.

As far as the statement on the first page talking about crappy AVs...I don't think AVs are crappy...forget about Ruth...there are plenty of shapes and skins out there to purchase. And if you are truly interested in modeling and texturing, you can learn to create your own shape or skin.

I don't think anyone would mind if they reconstructed the mesh a tinge. This will not (or doesn't have to) alter the skeletal system of the character one bit. Adding a few spinal bones won't change a thing.

And as far as increasing polycount, or complexity--this should not affect texture placement as well. If the character modeler knows what they are going (which they do) they can create a mesh that will still UV map similar to the AV now...

An increase in quality of the AV will not break the fashion industry.

Consider that citizens can create any form or shape of AV already...

The last release of Windlight had a LOT if serious flaws that had to be addressed before it will be the least bit ready for even another First Look client. I, for one, will be happy to wait until they address those bugs, such as the horizon and the sun getting severely distorted as you increase your altitude. Windlight only looked good if you were locked on the ground at 20M altitude. Sit in a 300M or higher skybox, and it looked like crap.

After months I finally learned that <3 is supposed to be a heart (and not pert b.....s or . s . ). So that I do not go months blindly accepting that I'm a moron and not willing to admit it:
What does the symbol <2 supposed to be the shape of?
