Skins/Shapes That Aren't X-Rated?

I was playing around with some free skins/shapes I had gotten and now I'm stuck. Well, I kind of like what I put together for myself except for two issues. First, is that there is underwear permanently stuck on which I hate. Second, and even worse, is a tatoo on my behind which says in huge words "Spank Me!" There is no way to get that off of myself, it's part of the skin.

So, after spending much time reworking myself (which at first I was not pleased with because I had come to sort of like my newbie image's shape and color and I can't seem to replicate the facial features quite the same) I now realize that ponying up some real $ is a necessity because I'm just not pleased with my appearance. I bought nice hair today, so I may as well have the body to match.

So, where do I go to get something good? I'm not looking for porn star, escort-for-hire type of shapes. Something more everyday, girl next door. I need to be able to muck around with it to suit my own skintone/makeup requirements as well, I'm picky about what color I want certain, body parts to be (part of the problem with the freebie was that i couldn't change the lip color either).

And, I don't need very detailed, shall we say gently, "nether regions". I have no intention of going out displaying my wares (well, not to frequently anyway).

I'm sure this has been discussed ad nauseum but I did a search and not many topics came up that sounded exactly like what I'm asking about.

For shapes check out Colette Meiji's shop. She sells a pack for 300L that has everything from Barbie to girl next door.

I'm a little confused by your post...you seem to be using skins and shapes interchangeably, and they're two different thing. Shapes are the underlying framework (how long your legs are, how big your nose is, etc), whereas skins are the overlying fabric (skin tone, makeup, body shading).

My shape is self made and I prefer Celestial Studios skins.

Elora, my suggestion is don't buy shapes. They're such a waste of money since you can do all that yourself. You only need to dedicate some time to get the look you want. Just make sure you SAVE your work once you've achieved a particular shape, so that you can go back to it in case you make a mistake. Try saving a few different shapes to use in different occasions.
Skin is a totally different case. Really nice skin is achieved after many hours of work in Photoshop (or else) and requires real talent. Save the money you'd spend on shapes and use it to get a nice skin. Also, the look of a skin changes depending on the shape you're wearing, so you'll end up adjusting your shape once you put on a skin to make it look the way you think it should. But most importantly, do some shopping around before you settle for something. TRY DEMOS before you buy.

This is really common for new players. In fact it would be my number 1 Customer service type question.

Although once they understand they usually are fine with it. I have never had to give a refund over it.

Although I did put together a custom shape for someone who didnt understand the distinction and he didnt pay me. (wore the shape though of course.)

And make sure you see the skin demo in a variety of different lights. I bought one that i thought was great only to find that it was way too pale under many circumstances. Luckily they had the same thing in a slightly darker shade, but a little extra work on my part with the demo would have paid off.

If you are under 30 days old, go to SinSkins. They have a new resident freebie pack that has enough to get you started. I suggest doing your own shape too, if not I also recommend Colette's Body Shop. Good shapes, that you can modify, at a good price.

Canimal sells one type of skin which has only nipples, it comes in a wide range of makeups. (canimal rarely gets mentioned in the forums for skins - which is a shame she does good work at a reasonable rate)

I believe pixel dolls sold an inexpensive one with no girly bits at all.

Elora, I have some freebie skins that are rather nice, send me an IM in world and I will be happy to share them with you. Also have a nice freebie shape that can be modified to your taste.

I have also been wrestling with the same problem and can send you some good landmarks for skin places, too, if you are wanting to spend some money on it.

Torrid Midnight sells good shapes are a very reasonable price.

Naughty designs also sells women's shapes.

The "Hard Work" poster Pelthar Beaton makes more money from his shape's shop than I do , so he must be doing something right.

I think Aliestar's shop sells Shapes and skins both in a package .. but if the poster doesnt like X rated she might get scared in that shop - Lots of Bondage equipment of the wilder variety in there. (the skins are just normal nude skins of course).


Beebo sells shapes as well I havent seen those though.

Wow, I was really surprised to see my name in a thread like that, thx Colette. Honestly, my shapes are not really girl-next-door types, it's definitely closer to that porn-star figure. (Modifiable though)

Elora, I'm introducing demo shapes in about a week, so if you're not in a hurry, I can send you a few demos next week. (Demo in my store will mean a no mod shape with the foot size set to 100 - you can check how you'd look like, but you can't wear it every day.)

Get a good skin and play with your shape yourself.

A shape is nothing more than slider settings, which you can do yourself, if you happen to have the gift. Many do, many don't. For those who don't, it's often best to buy a shape that was designed for the particular skin (but not always!)

If you make your own shape, you can always adjust it! You can give it to friends, who can then sometimes adjust prim attachments like jewelry for you, on their bodies wearing your shape, until you learn to do it yourself. I make jewelry, and I'm always happy to do this for friends wearing their shape (even if I have to look like a very ugly woman for a bit).

I find that the body is pretty easy to shape, but the face is more subtle, and depends a lot more on the particular skin. Unfortunately, SL doesn't allow the possibility for a "face only" shape. Give it a try and if you find you're a basket case even after several good tries, then go shape shopping.

Even then, keep trying your hand at it. Like any skill, you get better with practice.

Furthermore, most of us mortals are pretty good at making a good shape or two. The thing that distinguishes the "shape gods" from the rest of us is their ability to create a wide variety of different looks, from the petite cutie next door to the Egyptian goddess to the California starlet or Italian supermodel. And the talent that separates a great av from the pack is the ability to put the right elements together to create a personal style.

Another place to try, BTW, is HWMO -- lots of excellent material there.

I had gotten confused between skins/shapes I guess, so I'm glad everyone pointed that out to me. Obviously, the shapes can be changed by me. I already knew that so I don't need anything for that. I messed around with my shape and I'm very pleased with what I've done. She's very petite, shapely, but not overblown slutty . Really nice face. Working on the shape was very easy for me, I have a good eye for that, small incremental changes can really make a difference.

I've been getting a lot more attention from people now in-world, so I guess I did ok, she seems to be approachable by many types of people, which is exactly what I was hoping for.

Thats like saying if you have large breasts then suddenly you are easy.


Women come in all shapes and sizes. Their libedo, morality and propriety are independant of that.

True, Colette, but she did say that she didn't want to look like porn star. Granted, she was just exaggerating, but you get the idea of the shape she wanted - a fairly average build.

Collette I wasn't saying the shape made her a slut at all. I was saying that I didn't want a skin/shape that was overly detailed! When I first wrote it, as I pointed out in my latest post, I was confused between the two.

In RL, I'm very well built, and not easy. I know the difference.

Hi, I see that you have made yourself a nice shape. For others that read this thread, I recommend to search for Opium Skins. They have a free shape, Erin, if you go to second floor in the store. Erin has rather small and natural drop-shaped breasts, and the rest of the body is nice too. Not the extra thin waist and long, long legs. I use this shape with small modifications.

Was why I didnt quote anyone in particular - its a sometimes held stereotype in RL too is all.

Porn movies / Strip clubs/ Rock videos tend to look for a certain figure for the women the hire -

So then people assume that women who have that figure must behave like Porn Stars/ Strippers etc.

And on the flip side - some think women who DONT have that figure arent sensual.

In SL - some people actively stereotype others based on Body shape - IF they have the huge breasted barbie shape they "must be men", and other ignorant nonsense.

That's why I was trying to do something different. When I first started out, I made the breasts too large, and I was getting way too much of the "wrong" attention from people. Hence my reason for wanting something less stereotypical.

FYI, in RL, I happen to work with women who have partners with sex addictions. I'm very sensitive to these issues. So, this too was part of my own reason for not wanting to go that overblown typical route

I have a basic character shape, she too is petite and more girl-next-door than lay-on-floor. But one thing I love about SL is that it is NOT real ... so I have oh maybe about a dozen shapes I commonly use. Including a tiny baby tiger. And when I get a few minutes, a dragon that can be ridden. Wheee!

I wish I knew how to build avatars. If I did, I would make one that was just a pleasantly shaped cylinder with "AFK" written on it in nice script.

Yes, I understand your point, but I can't help being confused by your desire to have a skin without details if you do not plan to take your clothes off. You can only see the details if you are either not wearing any clothes or wearing very sheer clothes to display yourself intentionally. If you are not planning to do that, I'm confused as to why it matters what detail is *under* your clothes, since no-one will see it. If that's the case, I would recommend finding a really nice skin (many of the nicer ones *do* come with details), based on the quality of the tone, the faces and the like, and forget about the parts that you are always going to have covered in any case.

I'm not sure wht you are looking for here in a skin. I get that you don't want a porn star shape, which is good, because as a guy, I approve of a more normal body shape. It's the person on the other end that is either attractive or not. If it was just watching two avatars rub up together, then there is far better porn available.

At any rate, you said a skin that isn't too detailed? What don't you want on the skin? They go from Ruth to dang near photorealistic. Is it the naughty parts you don't want painted on, or do you want a less realistic look overall?

It seems that if you really hit up the freebie places, you ought to be able to find a skin with less detail for free. For a really highly detailed skin, you are going to have to pay, but at least for guys, there are a few decent freebie skins out there. I can't imagine the same isn't true for women. You might have to wade through a lot of garbage to find a good one, but it will save you some money long-term and if you find a few decent ones, you can switch them up as you wish.

I'm boring. I have one skin I like and that's it. I feel weird looking like someone else. I made my shape myself, but it took me the better part of 3 hours fiddling with stuff. I would have probably just bought one if I had known I could at the time.

I don't mind details, I just didn't want her to have things like detailed genitalia, etc. I don't mind visiting a nude beach now and then, I don't see anything particularly sexual about that. I have no issues with nudity per se, and did want the breast to look a bit realistic, but again not so much that they were screaming for everyone to notice them

Again, I now understand a lot of that has to do with how I shaped my Av, not the skin itself. But, I do know alot of the skins do come with extremely detailed bits and pieces, so I was trying to avoid ones which screamed that I was looking for a sexual encounter.

I'll add my part, too: The OP's use of the term "naughty bits" illustrates this (IMO, wrong) way of thinking. Our bits aren't naughty...we are, or aren't. It's not the shape, or whether genitalia are or aren't portrayed. If you keep your panties on, nobody's going to see if you have "naughty bits" anyway.

One could even argue that dramatic makeup doth not a slut make, but I don't think I'll try to take it that far. We do, in fact, use bold makeup and revealing clothing to attract attention and improve our chances of being naughty with someone.
