Where can I buy a dirigible?

I went to Dog Fight atoll just now and couldn't find any

Search "airship" "dirigible" "zeppelin" and "blimp" in the SL Exchange. There are several around. The one I use is called "Mythic Airship," and I love it.

I stand corrected. i have found several airships available at Dog Fight Atoll. All come with a free 5 minute demo.

All I can say is "Wow!"

I propose that the next meeting of the Forum Cartel be held aboard whichever airship I end up buying

I found one that looks just like an old fashioned riverboat. You could fit dozens of avatars on it. It would be just like a flying cruise liner!!

There are also some excellent dirigibles in Caledon SteamSkyCity at Fredrickson's. If you take a stroll to the north, to the east of the hangar on the north end is the Zeppelin Gallery with a multitude of pictures of actual zeppelins. I blush to admit that I also make an reproduction of Cromwell Dixon's pedal powered Skycycle blimp, which he made in 1906 at the tender age of 14(!!) (well, his mother sewed the gasbag for him to give credit where credit is due). It is only a single seater, however (it's an attachment vehicle). My shop is on the other side of the hangar

Oh, yes, no thread on SL dirigibles would be complete without mentioning the freebie Boomslang Airship, available on the freebie carts at Caledon Victoria City.

Airships are fun, but I love the physics of hang gliders. You can fly them for free at my hang glider rezzer on Liome:

Well I'm just going to throw in a shameless plug for my fabulous Aero-Putter - it's not quite a dirigible but it does stay aloft through the burning of kerosene gas to heat entrapped air, and propulsion is provided by a clockwork-powered propeller. It seats two and is very easy to drive. Free demos set up at Waikiti Mall.

Lord, just spent about two hours at Dogfight Atoll. WONDERFUL aircraft there. Only hit the control tower, two, perhaps three, no four times.....

Ray, didn't I warn you about using the hang glider party on the mainland?

I loved mine so much, but they never de-rezzed on dismount like they were supposed to. Because they remained my property, the users couldn't delete them. I ended up getting gliders returned (along with a few impolite messages) from all over the Nautilus continent!

For a while it was actually fun just cruising around looking for blue spots on the mini-map, seeing if I could spot the crashed gliders before the land owners found them.

The inaugural (sp) meeting of the Cartel Cruising Club will, wind and weather permitting, be held this Sunday aboard whatever airship I buy (choosing one as we speak). The biggest one holds 10 passengers including the pilot, so space will be limited - unless they are mod in which case I'll add some more poseballs if enough people are interested.

Jonathon is not so much my alt as Conan is Jonathons. Jonathon will probably be my main account in-world, but I've built such a reputation for grumpiness and contrariness on the forums with this avatar that it would a shame to have to start allover again.

There will not be a separate group title for the Cruising Club as all Forum Cartel members are members of the Cruising Club by default, and all forum dwellers are welcome to the Cartel also - just IM Brenda or Chris for an invite.

The plan will be a cruise around the coastline of the southern end of the original mainland - the snowy bit where Chalet Linden is - unless anyone has any specific requests. We will cruise at a height of approximately 701m to avoid banlines and reduce lag. Refreshments will be served during the flight. Flight time is expected to be as long as people can be bothered sticking around, since I don't have to go to work on Sunday.

If anyone has a landmark to Dog Fight atoll please send it to Jonathon Darcy inworld. Search is broken, and I forgot to take a landmark last night. I am keen to acquire an airship without delay and have chosen which one I want.

The one I have chosen, if search ever comes back so I can go to Dog Fight atoll to get it, has panels on the side that can hold advertising messages. I thought I might just write something like "HA HA you're all the way down there and we're all the way up here" on it or something like that.

The airships and faster craft were a heck of a lot of fun! Virrginia outmaneuvered me consistently but I threw everyone off by repeatedly nosediving into the sea floor. Catch me if you can!

There are some real differences in how they all handle. I'm used to the Boomslang since I used to fly that around quite often.

Incidentally, I've built a sort of esoteric fantasy airship sort of thing but don't know how to script it. If anyone could lend a hand I'd be most appreciative.

Oh, I discovered that the Second Skies airships we were using last night all have 3 flying modes. Remember the one that looked like a steamboat? They all have that mode too, as well as airplane mode.
