Ok I love sl or I wouldn't still be around but come on this is nuts. I just looked at the past blogs and in the past 18 days we have only had 5 days without some sort of issues...and heck some of those had rolling updates or some other issues but I didn't count those.

When can we have our game back to working more then it's not working.

Gads..

Everyone keeps picking on LL for using [RESOLVED] in the blog posts.

I mean, what part of RE-SOLVED escapes you monkeys (apologies to the non-monkeys out there who probably "get it" :P )???

OK. I agree they could put up [REBORKED] to make the parity a little clearer, but, meh.. you people honestly ask too much of the poor Lindens!

only idiots will believe that as we ran befor havok4 with 50-60k people online without a hickup (excluding the normal lag)

Good to be an idiot.

The problems did arise even before Havok4 was introduced, and I am pretty sure they are a result of the number of people logged in and what they are doing. Still, it is getting irritating, especially since there are no problems deducting the lindens from my account for useless classifieds.

is it true that the entire grid, its objects and agents are all running off a few asset servers ?
it seems they can add more servers for estate sims and mainland, but they cant add more servers for the assets ?
sounds like "fix-a-flat" being used on a worn tire to me.

One of the Lindens wrote an article describing how the back end is put together, and that can be useful to understand how all these problems fit.

Ya know, I can accept troubles. I can accept multiple days of troubles.

But I sure wish they'd tell us what's really going on, an what's being done to fix it. It would make it a lot easier to understand what's goin on.

Instead of closing the grid for updates on Wednesdays we get this. Is this better? Should we go back to the closed for updates policy? This new method screws with the economy too much for my liking. Time for Plan C?

I would rather have once a week KNOWN outage then all these other ones. This is really hurting some of us small business owners...heck kills our fun too. Try to have a gathering with friends and poof there goes the game :(

Marcel

every one says "it can`t be the physics engine"

but

how much code is it to go terrible wrong?
all other improvements added with it running the backend?
this was also "supposed" to smoothen sim crossing, there you have your database issues with handing off your avi from server to server along with all your stuff

extra building hight upto +4000m, people have to use a "trick" to get that done with the old client, login with new client, set the hight, login with old client
we all know that the old client tells the server to move the prim back to 768meters, but when locked, it can`t move it back, what sort of chaos happens between the client and the server?

just an example as there will be a crapload of functions and not just "physics engine", then we have the gone haywire server version "upgrades" of 1.19 wich they had to rollback the entire grid for to revert and it went fubar after with patches and rolling restarts

This isn't for the faint of heart: You have to look away from the monitor and around the room you are in. See the door? Go through it.. and keep going through doors until you get to a room that has no ceiling and is pretty brightly lit. That's called Outside. It's a horrible place, so be careful when venturing out into it.

Once you adjust to being Outside, look around. See the other prim buildings around you, the ones that look like houses from in SL? Those contain your RL neighbors. Go and knock on a door and see what happens. Hopefully, they won't assume you are a griefer first...

Actually, it was pretty much a daily occurrence for at least two weeks prior to the Havoc roll out.

In one of the blog comments, somebody asked Sidewinder if crashes which used to be attributed to physics might still be occurring... that is - previously, the crash would have occurred anyway, but it just happened to crash on physics first.

From: Sidewinder Linden
There were enough cases that the physics engine would spontaneously crash first that it is reasonable that it was masking other problems that would have showed up had the region survived the physics problem.

http://blog.secondlife.com/2008/04/10/simulator-stability-improvement-and-crash-rate-reduction-results/#comment-596404

So that could be it. Because there are less physics crashes, everything continues and then a lot of other things start to go wrong... where before things would just crash so the other stuff had no opportunity to go wrong. It's nothing directly related to Havok4, but Havok4 could have precipitated it.
