Interesting that since yesterday they seem to be leaving blog comments open for these things. How long is that experiment going to last?

Unnatural!

Where can I find an exhibit about these things? Is there a sim dedicated to it?

This isn't for the faint of heart: You have to look away from the monitor and around the room you are in. See the door? Go through it.. and keep going through doors until you get to a room that has no ceiling and is pretty brightly lit. That's called Outside. It's a horrible place, so be careful when venturing out into it.

Once you adjust to being Outside, look around. See the other prim buildings around you, the ones that look like houses from in SL? Those contain your RL neighbors. Go and knock on a door and see what happens. Hopefully, they won't assume you are a griefer first...

It's not just me then.

I could not get to the forums either for a little while. Maybe the world will be up again soon as well.

Gee, whatta shocker.... everything's gone to hell again.

This has been going on every goddamned day for over two weeks now.

Maybe if LL could hire a bunch with more than half a clue amongst the lot of 'em, we wouldn't have this problem, would we?

Nope. I was getting the dread 500 service error just going to the main page. They've posted on the blog about it, but as usual, the comments are closed.

Re: what’s up. It doesn’t have anything to do with Havok4 or with new clients. It has to do with the fact that our central database is currently struggling under the load of the size of Second Life.

We have a number of things in progress to alleviate this. Some of them are in the 1.21 server deploy which we’ve had so much trouble getting out. The _current_ database problem (as of 9:43AM on 04/17) may or may not be a result of something we did that made the database perform more efficiently last week. We _do_ have new database server hardware on order, and within the next few weeks that will be in place and will alleviate problems. Future system design (some of which you can learn about by attending Zero Linden’s AWG office hours) will reduce our dependence on a single central database.

In the mean time, yes, the last few weeks have been painful for you and for us. We’re doing everything we can to reduce the pain as much as possible.

Be very careful....don't just go in wandering around, touching everything...and for heaven's sake, that person upstairs in the bed that is afk does NOT want to try out the sex poseballs with you!

I think there have been 3 or 4 days out of the past 30 that have NOT had such a post on the blog at least once.

Oh c'mon! EVERYONE has duct tape! It's part of being alive!

The Lindens obviously don't... They need some to hold their database together :P

I really doubt they would deliver anything to LL as they would break everything, demand a refund or take them to court if not getting a refund for broken stuff

proof they don`t have mirrors...

But that was after they had expanded the asset server cluster. Before that, we had daily problems with things not rezzing, and getting items purchased. Don't recall it mucking up the farking L$ transactions, though.. or the website. This is just a different problem.. and twice as annoying!

true, but after they expanded the asset cluster, we ran like 2 months or something without to many problems untill they started to add shit again and since havok4 is grid wide it has gone to hell with LESS people online then back then

I could have patience with Linden Labs if I felt they were honest about the problems, and what they are doing to resolve them.

However, whenever Linden Labs posts "Issue Resolved," I translate that to "Mission Accomplished."

I'm not a technical expert when it comes to their databased or network or anything. However, I do notice when Linden Labs claims that an issue is "fixed," and then I go in-world at the issue is still there. Or maybe it's fixed temporarily but comes back tomorrow, or in a few hours.

Then there are the promises of "things we are doing to prevent these problems in the future" which never seem to produce the promised results.

I don't know what goes on at Linden Labs, but I have trouble believing that they just have a staff full of incompetent tech people. I think it's more likely that the tech people generally know the problems, but the management chooses to communicate unrealistically rosy outlooks to the customers.

If it's going to take a month to fix the database problems, why not report, "We are doing the best we can to resolve these issues, but it may be a month before they are fully resolved." That kind of honesty would help me to extend a lot more patience to Linden Labs when it comes to these problems.

Or here's the answer that I suspect comports most with the truth: "We have spend all of our resources creating things like Windlight, we don't have any resources left to spend on maintaining the hardware to run Second Life."

is it true that the entire grid, its objects and agents are all running off a few asset servers ?
it seems they can add more servers for estate sims and mainland, but they cant add more servers for the assets ?
sounds like "fix-a-flat" being used on a worn tire to me.

How many lindens does it take to fix a server?

None, they all stand around clueless and stick up an "Inworld Issue" notice on the blog hoping it will fix itself.
