/me grins. That's exactly how I do it, Rhaorth. So much easier, especially for aligning walls. And the easiest way to avoid prim flicker on the overlaps is to texture the short edges with a pure alpha, too.

For anyone trying this, though, don't forget to uncheck that option when you're done. Or the next time you're trying to make something new, you might end up with a copy of your building platform...

No, that's not the voice of experience talking. Not at all. *cough*

yep I do that alpha on the edges thing too hehe

oh and yeah, I ended up with a copy of half my store on top of me cuz I forgot to uncheck it LOL

Rha....you are freaking awesome! Has anyone told you that lately?!

That's the best building tip I've ever received!!

um, actually no, no one has, and ty

and you are welcome :)

I have known about that since, oh my gosh, a week after starting SL, just kinda thought everyone did LOL
lately I been discovering that not everyone is aware of what it does, so... I have been telling folks

maybe I should suggest to Torley to include it in a tutorial if he has not done so already

oh and if you link the pieces together, say a strip of them 1 by 5, it will copy the entire strip, evenly, however if it is an odd number, it causes them to not line up evenly (and if it is more than a 1 by X strip they will overlap)

using this method I covered an entire sim with 10 x 10 prims within a few minutes (had permission from the owner, empty sim, was just seeing how quickly I could do it LOL)

My companion apparently has a whole bunch of these things in his head, but hasn't shared, assuming I already know them. Heck, I *just* learned about moving the mouse outside the circle when rotating, and he assumed I knew that.

LOL...Only took a year! *grins*

snap to grid hehe
also check under... um, not logged in to check which drop down it is, close to the help one LOL if that helps

you can change the increments on the snap to grid measurements (I think it is called grid options or something like that)

I will check in a bit, and post what it is if someone else doesn't beat me to it

/me wonders if maybe I should start giving classes for this kind of stuff

I am the same as your companion, as in I think people already know, and rarely share my info

:(

(you are familiar with how the eye dropper works right?)

House of Effulgent has a prefab that fits on 30x30 footprint for $L1200 called the White Phoenix. It's a white, oriental palace, basically one room, but on 3 floors (231 prims). It's close to what the store itself looks like. Not identical, but close. Despite it's small footprint, the builder suggests 8000 sq. meters, but I think that's probably because of the difficulties of making it look right on land because it's so tall, which isn't an issue in a Skybox.

Effulgent is where we purchased our home. Sold for $L650 a year ago, is 3 stories with a patio. We LOVE it and have it on an 1880 plot atm. However, Effulgent has a lot of smaller homes, if you like the Asian look.

Another place I have seen homes specifically designed for 512 and 1024 plots and larger are Coco's Cottages. Very nice homes.

Personally I've found quite a few really nice homes in all sizes in ye ole freebie boxes. (One I am redoing as my future shop. Nothing like free *smiles.) Some were contest entries apparently the Lindens held years ago and are now free.

Tons and tons of building classes offered in SL that teach these kind of things. :)

Kornscope Komachi has some nice, simple homes at very reasonable prices. Locations available in his profile.

I've also found some very nice homes in freebie boxes, though I spent a lot of time in sandboxes going through stuff. A 1024 footprint ought to be pretty easy to fit, I would think - that's what I have and I found loads of options!

EDIT: Oh, snap! As soon as I posted this, I realized I'd also seen some nice stuff at Coco's Cottages. There's a LOT out there, really, it's just a matter of finding it!
