Ok, we are doing something seriously wrong here when we start losing people like Clarissa. An environment that is becoming so toxic that it is driving away those who are sweet, steady, and friendly is an environment that will ultimately only sustain those who are toxic themselves.
But enough of the negativity.
Help reaffirm my faith in humanity by demonstrating that we care for our own. (Yeah, that's right: MY faith. It's really all about ME!)
1) Because Clarissa reached out to me not long after we had had a rather nasty and public cat fight on a thread, and showed me through HER actions that my own rhetoric about not getting personal, and respecting even while disagreeing, is actually possible.
2) Because we need people who are steady, and rational, and not so predictable (as I know I sometimes am) as to always take one side or another of a debate.
3) Because coming into a thread that features posts by Clarissa is a bit like walking into a room where you see a friend; even if the rest are strangers, you feel at home.
4) Because a sense of humour need not always be on the lookout for a target like it was a heat-seeking missile, and Clarissa's seldom is.
5) Because she has the first same name as my absolute all-time favourite eighteenth-century heroine, Clarissa Harlowe, who was ALSO strong, and sweet, and smart.

5) Because she has the first same name as my absolute all-time favourite eighteenth-century heroine, Clarissa Harlowe, who was ALSO strong, and sweet, and smart. Certainly agree; on most points; I thought Clarissa came down on me rather hard yesterday for disagreeing with the 2 of you, but then again, Clarissa has had a bunch of people coming down on her a lot lately and I'm sure she's sick of it. And people going to some lengths to harass her inworld as well if I recall, somebody who was IMing her. It's to her credit that she's stayed this long, and I hope she returns after a breather, hopefully a very short one, because we look like we are in the 'end times' here anyway. You never know who is going to surprisingly have your back; I was rather surprised yesterday, that it was Smith and Pep (Pep was a surprise!) who actually said no, Treasure, I do not believe that, about you. (I'm sure Pep is running right now to see what the hell he said that made me think he was being nice, surely I misinterpreted it ). As it turned out she wasn't talking about me at all, but at the time, I thought she was and yeah it upset me. Mostly though, I enjoy Clarissa's well thought out posts and would hate to see her leave the forums over this stuff. Yesterday, I was where she is today, in my head. Asking myself, what am I doing here anyway? Today though, I feel better, and I hope that tomorrow, she will too. Looks like we're all going to be forced to leave forever, soon enough, anyway, may as well not rush it.

If we are having this kind of impact on people like you and Clarissa, then maybe we need to be a bit more careful and gentle with each other.

We need her here because i am still trying to get her to cruise her home nude 24/7 and bake us some boob shaped cookies while nude. I like Clarissa a lot. She is nice, sweet, calm in her replies, thoughtful and a caring person, and those are all character traits that make her an endearing person that I am happy to know. I just think she may be uncomfortable with my nude self in world. Well, i am not totally nude, I do wear leaves and acorns.

We need Clarissa because we need ALL of our thoughtful, helpful forum Regulars. Clarissa is a valued member of the forum family, and I'm terribly sad to see her let some schnook troll drive her away.

We all get bent out of shape sometimes.... The trick is to try to forgive yourself and others easily cause we all human. Sure we should definitely try to be nicer to each other; and sometimes when other people are not so nice you gotta try not to take it too personally. When all else fails, tell a penis joke? )))))))) Seriously, hope Clarissa does come back. Seems like lately we have to keep having threads about people who say they are leaving... and that's really no fun. No more leaving the forums!!! Cause I said so. Unless you wanna go outside or something. Then you have my permission. But other than that, no

These are turbulent times. I would not recommend that anyone should make decisions in a maelstrom, but wait until things have settled down, which they will eventually.
A timeout is never a bad idea; however, it's never worth making statements you might regret, or might make it harder to do what you really want to.
Pep (That applies just as much to Jig saying she is leaving SL - don't! - as to Clarissa; hell, Clarissa, the forums might not be here much longer, make the most of them while you can!!!)
PS Treasure, why so surprised? Just 'cos I'm a jerk doesn't mean I don't recognise goodness in others.

From: Pserendipity Daniels the forums might not be here much longer I'm guessing this might be contributing to people's feelings that it's Just Not Worthwhile Logging In Here....yes, nasty cowardly attacks play a big role, but knowing the parent company disdains our community eats away at our resilience. Aside from that--yes, I hope Clarissa keeps posting here. She's always worth reading.

Threads that are started to discuss individual personalities rarely end well, on this or any other forum.
Even originally positive threads, like this, have a way of going bad.
Safe paths, Clarissa. .

From: Scylla Rhiadra Ok, we are doing something seriously wrong here when we start losing people like Clarissa. An environment that is becoming so toxic that it is driving away those who are sweet, steady, and friendly is an environment that will ultimately only sustain those who are toxic themselves. Damn, I missed something major again. I really hate that I cannot get to the forums during the day from work now. Anyway, we definitely need people like Clarissa here. I do not always agree with her, but have never known her to not post in a proper manner. And yes, there has been way too much personal attacking lately, usually because someone takes something someone said too personal themselves and responds back with a nasty stab. A lot of folks here could really use a bit more breathing time before posting a response to something -- and yes, even I have fallen victim to that a time or two here. Clarissa - sounds like you have bailed from the forums. If you are still reading, do not let the bastards run you off.

I don't know Clarissa well enough to make a Top 5 list; therefore I can only sum up my feelings into one reason: A Second Life community without Clarissa is an emptier community. It's just not going to be the same without seeing her posts.

From: Katheryne Helendale A Second Life community without Clarissa is an emptier community. Yes. With all the talk of the Forums' imminent demise, it can be difficult to see the value of making a positive contribution. Or the cost of making a negative one. But if there's less restraint on the negative, that makes it all the more important to retain the positive. We need Clarissa, and we need more like her, now even more than before.
