Well, it's certainly the right economic climate for a pawn shop to do well.

I was also wondering the other day whether it would be legal to set up a credit union, and whether anybody has thought of doing so, now that banking has collapsed.

I think its a great idea Rha, the only problem i can see is the scale in effort terms in ratio to monetary terms..... what I mean is..

suppose i need to raise 5k to pay my rent one month...

I have inventory full of clothes, some no copy items... to amount to that much L$ at the rates you quote we are talking about 20 or more items....

Researching prices and providing written tickets for that amount of items is quite a lot of work...

(oh goodness, I am beginning to sound like Desmond!)

I might want to bring you larger items.. but you are saying you wont deal in larger items like houses?

I think its a great scheme but i think it might wear you out!

Best of luck though!

That is the one thing I have been thinking about a lot too, what if it takes too much time, would it still remain fun?

still undecided, as to if I will do it or not

it seems folks think it is a neat idea, but that doesn't mean it would work :)

I do think it would work, but i think you might need to put a minimum amount per item, calculated on what your time is worth to you. And reconsider taking larger and more costly items.

Hope I can come to you when I need that bit of extra help :)

Why not just a resale shop? With limits of course, and you'd give all approval for what goes in. You would have to figure out some type of commission script either way because if you put the object out, instead of in a box for sale, there would need to be a way for you to get paid.

Neat idea Rhaorth!

thanks
well I decided to go ahead and do it, but not aggressively advertising it
got it's own little plot and store, and will have a notecard giver with instructions on how to submit a request to sell something to me, and a drop box to drop your note carded info

only time will show if it is fun or not
and the beauty of SL, is if it is not fun I can just stop... :)
