The PN: are they "retired"?

In the last few wks it had been (of course) a lot harder for folks ta do "combat" in no-push and no-dmg areas. Somebody on the Slex forums claimed that "we're finished" sayin how we can all rejoice becuase the big bad PN is dead. lol

I was surprised how little "publicity they GOT when they was active in full form, just 4 the right-wing hardline attitude & actions. Like for a small example, 1:06 on this video. "Dead Nigger Storage"

...and that's nothin compared to most of the racial intolerance I have seen in pics of thier core members in action. Let alone in-world encounters.

If they ARE gone, cant blame em. Since most of em can't script in LSL to save a life, they might as well do what more of thier members CAN do: build crazy junk & sell it. Tardimals would be a good example.

The one PN that did know how to script has moved on, leaving the rest a gaggle of pathetic, college aged bois with nothing better to do with their lives.

I tink many recognized them for what they were (attention starved) and let 'em wither. You dun reward bad behavior.

As long as chat exists, there's gonna be serious griefing. For instance, a push weapon can only maybe... log you out, at worst. But with chat, you could convince a few to delete their entire operating system...

Only the amateur griefers will be stopped by weapon controls.

Very true, Desmond -- but these folks were amateurs, for sure. Let alone not much good with chat. So they'll try to orbit and do all the old things, and little will happen, and we'll all go on with our lives.

It's like the guys with the black physical cubes. I was in a sim chock full of em the other day. Nowadays, it's a curiosity at best -- my only coment to a friend was that it seemed almost "nostalgic" to see.

There is a group named DISSENTION (all caps) that has initiated spam attacks on a number of individual Residents. These include not only spamming in IM in-world (plus other in-world attacks), but also massively spamming their RL e-mail accounts where those have been mentioned in their profiles. These attacks consist of sending literally thousands of e-mails to that address in a short space of time.

Whether this "group" consists of more than one person I do not know, but I predict a short life span for it. RL e-mail attacks of this sort are RL crimes and can result in felony convictions. At least one victim has said in a different forum that she is contacting law enforcement.

These particular sorts of doofuses - the PN and this DISSENTION thing - appear to want to be the big, bad on-line Bogeyman, striking fear in the people they attack. Others seem to want merely to taunt or torment random individuals. And of course there are those who are merely being unruly adolescents in an adult venue. The common element appears to be that they are wimps and losers with 2-inch thingies in real life trying to feel like a man online. To the extent they are disruptive, they create a problem for SL and Residents that needs to be dealt with.

I hear pasty 60 pound white kids that are used to basement dwelling make the best bit**es in a prison enviornment.

I really have no idea why people persist in publicising the PN and all that lot. There are a million people who are regularly more damnably irritating than they could ever hope to be, usually by means of Potted Meat.

I think with the newer Physics engine, which fixes the exploits they used to crash sims, and the previous addition of 'No Push', it's pretty much stiffled simple-minded griefing.

Who needs them to disrupt the SL experience? LL has been doing that pretty well by themselves lately.

Depends on what hardware is checked. If it's a MAC address, the only way around that would be buying a new NIC. Or taking the effort of faking one.

Even then, IP's can be blocked as well. Sure they can be faked if you know how, but would it really be worth it?

Just for information's sake, I was personally targeted by a greifer..the grand total was over 100,000 emails that took over 24 hours to process. At first I freaked, then I just closed that email account, and reported the spam to the proper authorities, emptied my mailboxes, and started over again. Was no big deal. I had a harder time getting over the fact that we were out of cookies and cream ice cream I like ice cream.

Who cares if the Pinkin Noops are gone, they were just kids in mentality at least. Must be a handful to keep a group like that under control really, if you're wearing the leaders cap.

They're mostly Something Awful goons. Rich Kyanka made mention of "Patriotic Nigras" and "Fort Longcat" a bannable offence on the Something Awful fora a long time ago. Since then, they've ground to a halt. Occasionally someone will post something on 4chan to try and stir people up - but 4channers are mostly interested in baiting youtubers and raiding Habbo Hotel, so those threads disappear pretty fast.

Indeed, MAC addresses are spoofable, but by means rather more elaborate (and expensive) than a hacked viewer. If these wizards suppose that the way anybody actually detects and bans MAC addresses is through a client query, then they may have some disappointment in store. Methinks perhaps one of their legion may boast of exploits not quite attained--rather like the boys' locker room at the high school to which he so longs to return.

My reading suggests to me that this client that has been used for a long time now quite successfully.

What is that you are saying that LL is doing to check your MAC address other than sending messages to the second Life viewer software?

I'm scared ta ask what "Goatse" is, lol. I'm bettin it ain't as funny as "underfloor vagina"? ...anyway, thier Client is supposedly "broken", so no more anonymous logins for them. I havent read a big full notice or nothin on em shuttin down but I would imagine that's one of the main reasons why they finally gave up.

Goatse is the single greatest thing ever. Goatse has the power to create new worlds and populate them; and the power to destroy them too.
