I think so. I had a great experience this past weekend with Wraith Unsung after losing the shoes to one of the outfits from her store, Fairy Grove Creations. I had bought several items from her in the past week (she was having a big sale).

Usually, I save my appearance in my favorite outfits, but this time I had forgotten to do so and when I was removing the outfit, the shoes up and disappeared. Never was returned to parcel either. Gone into the void.

I put in a support ticket, of course, but who knows how long that might take. So I figured why not just ask her about it too? I've met her at the store a couple of times and figured it was worth a shot. She personally has walked me around to find things which I specifically was looking for in fact (her store is enormous).

She not only got back to me immedidately, but gave me a whole new outfit. These are the kind of business people that I love, and the ones I'll keep coming back to. I'd like to think that there are a lot more out there like her.

I think [the majority] of anybody wishing to start a business has a want to please their target audience. Not only is acceptance a huge deal to you humans (laugh synthesis), but they also want to succeed...and you can not succeed in a business endeavor, unless the public or your audience is pleased.

Some have a lot better support after the fact--those are the [companies] that go above and beyond...and these tend to flourish more-so in the long-run.

Customer service and support are very important. That's not just a given...it's a grace.

Someone may create what they 'think' to be a quality product...but actually it may be a wreck. This still doesn't mean they don't want acceptance and have a sense of pride.

Well said.
Though there are those out there who we all know don't care so much about the customer as the money, there are far too few of those people I feel to catagorize as the majority.

I answered yes on the assumption that the vast majority of SL business-people want their businesses to be a success. Of course if there are people who are going to the trouble of setting up a business in the hope it will be a miserable failure, then they likely hope that their customers will be dissatisfied. I imagine that such an ambition is relatively easy to achieve.

Essentially this is what I wanted to say...this [version] is much easier to understand though. :)

Yes, of course business people want to make sure the customer is satisfied. Sadly, I voted for Cake, since I haven't had any in a lonnng time.

As someone who owns a small business in SL I would answer *yes*. Of course I want you to be satisified. Beyond that, I desire that you are more than satisified with any one of my products. Everyone with whom I have become friendly with here in SL, I believe feels the same way.

I know they exist, but I can honestly say I have yet to meet another builder or designer in SL who doesn't feel that way.

I voted Yes. I don't believe I have ever had a SL merchant refuse a reasonable request for delivery or replacement of non-delivered or lost items.

Granted, it did take several days on a few occasions due to lost/capped IMs or the merchant just exercising his/her right to enjoy a First Life.

Absolutely! Being a an SL business owner....I definitely want people to be happy! I've had some really great experiences with other SL business owners and you bet I'm going to return to those places and rocommend them to my friends.....It's the same as RL. Keeping customers satisfied is always going to be the ultimate key to being sucessful....and NOT doing so is a sure fire way to kill a business...IRL and in SL. I have had people be extremely rude to me when inquiring about a transaction gone awry in a shop......and I always think....how can they expect to have a business here if all they're gonna do is sit back and wait for buyers, and piss on anyone who might need help!!! Foolish. And...I love to make people happy... so it certainly isn't a stretch for me to provide good customer service in SL. *grins*

What? No "capitalists are evol" yet? Surprising, considering some of the commentary here. Hi Chris :)

Ooooooo... clicky boxes!

I've been nearly always satisfied with my in-world buying experiences, an have found most retailers bend over backwards to make things right.

I'd have to say it's half/half in my experience (usually doesn't happen that often that I really have to bug a creator with questions).

Permission questions usually bother me the most (although I usually won't consider that a negative experience). Asking a NC/T copy of something sold as C/NT (when it makes sense... if something comes on all layers I won't ask for instance) ranges from not wanting to bother (fair answer) to being accused of wanting to scam them.
Asking for mod on prim items/furniture or failing that making an adjustment (I love candles, but I don't want every candle in my house to be a light). Honestly just don't get the stubborn refusal to make things mod.

On the above-and-beyond list:
* asking for help to fit a C/NT prim skirt because it just wouldn't fit and eventually being offered a refund (didn't take it because of the NT)
* getting parts of an outfit in different colours when I really didn't want the whole thing
* asking for something that was discontinued a while back
* getting a NC/T copy of a C/NT outfit (requires an effort to change permissions)

For me it's been the big stores/well known creators that were the most helpful and friendly. With small stores I usually won't even get a response, an unhelpful one, or just a rude one.

Probably a big part of why they're the big stores.

Most content creators want their customers to enjoy their purchases.

Most landlords want people happy with their residences.

Most of those in the service industry (club owners/dancers/hosts/etc) want people to have fun at their venue.

Most content thieves just want a quick buck.

This is what I was going to say, too. It depends on the business. Land speculators might not care about their customers, or SL itself even. Ad farm extortionists want their "customers" to be as annoyed as possible.

Yeah.

----------------------

Id say the vast majority of ad farmers are in it for the extortion.

An extremely rare minority may actually think ad farms are useful to Residents somehow. Probably the same type of people who stick ads under your windshield wiper blades in parking lots.

-------------------------

Landbot runners? they are in it for the money. Even the ones who refund mistakes that get caught in time are still benefiting from mistakes people don't complain about or don't complain in a timely manner.

---------------------------

Anyone who buys land to sit on it speculating it will go up, is in it for the money also. Since the land isnt improved any. It just costs more in the end.

Yes, one of our main goals is customer satisfaction. Some times no matter what you do you cant please people, but as long as your trying.

Being in it for the money and caring about your customers are not mutually exclusive. Satisfying customers is one of the best ways to ensure repeat business.

I think most business orders do want their customers to be satisfied. There are some, however, who don't seem to care much. I can think of one shop whose clothes I love and have bought in the past, but is now being very vocal that they will not replace items lost/never received due to LL glitches. The creator's attitude is "it's not my fault and I'm not going to deal with it". That's her right, but I won't be gambling with shopping there anymore. I've also been waiting a week to hear back from a big animation store (yes, I sent a notecard) about a dance anim I never received. While the vast majority of the shopping experiences I have in SL are good to excellent, those few bad ones really do put me off buying things for a while. It's supposed to be fun, right?

Any good business person knows that satisfaction is the key to success--even if your smile disappears when you turn around.
