From: Joshooah Lovenkraft That's sad to hear. I've learned a lot from you and others in the Scripting Tips forums as well as from many other knowledgeable residents in other sub forums. O I'll still be around as I have waaaaay too much fun in SL. I just refuse to use LL's new perverted vision of what a forum should be. I love this broken down, old forum. It is going to be hard to replicate the mix of people that we have here and ALL of the bases are covered when it comes to answering actual questions. The hard part is going to be finding a forum that newbies actually have heard of. They are the ones with the questions that need answers.

Linden Lab insists on using a 15-pound plumber's wrench as a hammer. They insist on using Blog software to do the job of running a Forum, and can not or will not understand that it is simply the wrong tool for the job.
Sad...

From: Raymond Figtree I'd like to recommend SLUniverse.com to anyone looking for a good forum should this one fall apart. *Cues Nina in 5, 4, 3, 2,1......

From: Nika Talaj Yes, this is exactly the current blog format, of which SL Answers is a subsection.
The only difference is that residents will be able to originate threads within certain specific Channels. As with the current blogs, there will be no overall view, no meaningful "New Posts"-like section. It has difficult-to-navigate "Channels" instead of a simply presented hierarchical forum-subforum structure.
If they do that to these forums, there will be no community left. . Community is a concept LL no longer envisions for SL, by pandering to the mindless, dronelike corporate culture.

You can also see LL support and help requests for the new Jive software here as well http://www.jivesoftware.com/jivespace/people/gayathri%40lindenlab.com?view=overviewIt so inspires confidence in the migration plans

Sad... I think there is something else going on that we are not being told. The whole blog style and expanded profile you can fill in leads me to think they want to force us (the web community) into a MySpace/Facebook type of arrangement. I can see and understand why this is a desirable new set of tools for in world and out social networking, but I hate to see the simple and elegant solution of plan old forums get axed as a way to force new life into an unwanted design.

This is funny to read. One Linden is struggling there like a fish in a net. From somewhere we all know these feelings as customers/residents... But there seems to be a perfect support - and helpdesk-team at work. It couldn't be a damage if LL would be inspired by the ambitioned service/skills of Jive...

Well if they want to migrate over here, it's up to them to plan it, not our problem

From: Brenda Connolly Every time I go over to that site it annoys me more. It really is a slick, corporate, snake oil selling pile of BS. It reeks of Boardroom and executive washroom.

Great find! Actually useful for understanding a bit about how LL configured this stuff. From: Nika As with the current blogs, there will be no overall view, no meaningful "New Posts"-like section. It has difficult-to-navigate "Channels" instead of a simply presented hierarchical forum-subforum structure. But, but... WTF are they thinking, so dramatically neutering the forums-related features that we saw in other Jive applications? Can they possibly imagine *anybody* is going to use it? (Come to think of it, that makes me wonder--maybe I'll start a thread--Who's answering "Second Life Answers"?)

That is just it, Qie. They do not WANT a thriving forum community, and they are doing everything they can to kill it, while putting on a public face that spreads the lie of "We care about your comments!". Meanwhile, that thought continues, unpublished as "... because we have so much fun laughing at them!".
LL apparently does not want to hear feedback from its Customers that isn't in sycophantic agreement with their every whim. Most of the Forum posters are an embarrassment to the LL staff, constantly posting about problems and errors in LL's product, and complaining about bad policy decisions and bad technical implementation. A bunch of "Yes Men" willing to put up with any blog or forum solution so they can cheer for the company, right or wrong, is much more pleasing to them.
Look at their track record. How often to they ever listen to customer complaints and implement positive changes based on that customer feedback? How much more often do they ignore the customers, or worse yet, intentionally do just the opposite of what the customers ask for?
How have they responded to these forums? How well have they maintained the software? How well have they moderated the fora? How well have they participated and used the fora as a means of communicating with their customers, and benefiting both sides by the discussion?
When was the last time LL did anything that indicated they really *cared* about customer opinion and feedback?
We all know the answers, don't we?

Well, I don't mean to sound like a snot....but why stop now.....I'm considering the friendships I made in this forum, and that's not going to happen in a sterile vacuum of a blog (they insist on calling a forum). Pure selfishness on my part....but maybe you made a friend or two here?
Everyone can migrate to off-site forum A, off-site forum B, off-site forum C.....the A-types will go to A...the B-types will go to B.....the C-types will go to C.....the X, Y and Z types won't fit any of those molds, so will say screw it......and you will be fine and dandy communicating with people you like, and are comfortable with....and have a hunky-dory experience....all warm and fuzzy.
But I recall some of the most valuable lessons learned....and the reasons some friendships came into being, and it was because A, B and C and X, Y, and Z were having a rumble and laying it all out on the table. Heaven forbid that ever be encouraged again.....
......and be sure to follow the rule of leaving out any RL stuff....so that you can reduce your learning and understanding and acceptance of others to whether they prefer pumps or stilettos or whether they prefer bling or no bling.
You're not going to find this mix of people and mix of thoughts in another location....it's only going to happen in this location, and it's not going to happen on a blog (they insist on calling a forum).
It was nice rumbling with you A, B and C, thanks for the insight.....and to X, Y and Z.....I guess I'll see some new products from you, since you went back and locked yourselves in the workshop. Go easy on the bling, please.

Go easy on the bling, please. QFT and this is what I was alluding to in my post. An example would be the dynamic between Talarus and myself. We have had a couple of horrible, mud slinging, name calling, violating every single forum rule, fights in Scripting Tips in the last few years. Arguments concerning scripting where we had opposing POV's. And yet I LIKE Talarus and respect his POV and all he has given back to the community over time. Imagine all of the bot threads without Phil's contribution. Imagine Content Creation without Chosen. Then there are a couple of people I consider so stupid that I am surprised that they can remember to breath, and yet, I still want to hear their POV because it is a POV shared by a portion of the community. I have been a member of several forums over the years, even before they were called forums. And yet I would consider this one by far the most important and helpful for a community of any I have been in. I have been completely dumbfounded that absolutely no one at LL has ever recognized just exactly what they created here. A creation that will be impossible to duplicate anywhere else because people will now be dividing themselves up along perceived boundaries and going off to multiple forums.
