Xstreet forum migration plan is about to be announced over at Xstreet. Not sure whether we'll get any information over here about migrating these forums, we seem to be the redheaded stepchild or something like that.

It's probably going to be on the "new forums" like Second Life Answers. I can't imagine them using this forum, given how.. umm... poorly moderated it is.

They will move these as well I expect at the same time, but they haven't made any announcements here yet, maybe Xstreet forums are going to be the Test Bunnies or people are going to get a big surprise here and they will just swap them.

Lets hope Blue Linden posts a note here as well though he said the forums were going to merge and gave me this link to see the new format

I better get to naming names, starting off-topic threads and slandering people while I still can.

Speaking of which, did that "I've had it with SL" thread that named names get completely deleted?

I think when it goes to that atrocious excuse for a blog.. err forum, I'll go to SLU.

I keep trying to understand the stupid blog/forum format, but it simply reminds me of chasing my own tail.

Would that be considered cheating?

Every time I go over to that site it annoys me more. It really is a slick, corporate, snake oil selling pile of BS. It reeks of Boardroom and executive washroom.

*The old saying about dogs resembling their masters comes to mind......

I was considering a Monty Python reference, but an appropriate one didn't come to mind right away.

Forums signatures will have to be all-text, and only later to able to include links (I guess) but no images. Seems likely that will apply when these forums move over, too.

It's interesting that the comments in the XstreetSL forum thread are more in opposition to merging than to the new software. I wonder what the reaction will be once the migration actually takes place.

I certainly see the point of those whose corporate net-nanny allows access to xstreetsl.com, but not secondlife.com: they're screwed.

Maybe it's Creator/Merchant elitism.

Why do you think I am here, rather than there? No insult to those there, but it just wasn't my kind of scene. But LL merging this into that craptastic blog/forum/whatever? The color scheme makes my eyes bleed bad enough without dealing with it.

See, when asked if TP killed Second Life's community, my answer will always be, "No, LL killed SL spirit of community."

Hmmm looks like it's going to look like Second Life Answers, where's Blue? This is what many people complained about when it was first brought up.

It didn't start well. How can you have any faith in someone named Pink?

Pass me a Stella, will you, Laval?

Here's the text from that post by Pink:

From: someone
Dear XStreet SL Community,

We are passionately committed to maintaining forums as a place for you to gather and connect with each other and to talk directly with us. Last month, we announced that we were planning on moving the forums from XStreetSL.com over to https://blogs.secondlife.com/. You can visit Second Life answers to get a feel of the new look and the different features.

Here is the completed list of the upcoming changes to the forums that will happen when the forums are moved on September 9, 2009. You will be able to find these forums in the "Commerce" section on https://blogs.secondlife.com.

We will also be updating our forum guidelines, effective September 9, 2009. Here is a link to the new Second Life Forum guidelines.

Updates to the discussion channels:

* We will continue to have a merchants only area; which will be renamed Merchants Roundtable. Merchants in the existing group will be moved over and will continue to have access to that channel. Please file a support ticket if you wish to be added to the merchants channel, as there is now a specific option for this request.
* The complete list of forum channels is:

* A general commerce discussion area
* List your Second Life related services
* Help and Work wanted channel (for commerce)
* A "Wanted" channel for buyers to list items they would like to see made

* We've added some channels that are automated feeds:

* The latest new items listed on Xstreet
* The latest Real Estate listings.

Features in the Forums:

* Based on your feedback, The new "Commerce" forums will have links back to a read-only archived version of the current forums, since there are a lot of valuable discussions that we know you do not want to lose.
* Posts can be formatted and have links.
* New option to add a tag to your post.
* Text only signatures can be added to your profile and will appear under your posts. The signatures will not support links.
* Other Links that will be available in this section
* Public Jira for feature requests. The public Jira now has Shopping/XstreetSL as one of the listed projects.
* Links to Second Life answers for shopping questions
* Links to the Support portal for Technical Help
* Links to the forum guidelines. As part of this move, we will be updating our forum guidelines. An announcement of specifics is to follow later today, and once live, will be linked from this post.* The commerce forums landing page will also display:
* The top participants
* Links to the most popular tags
* The most recent activity on the forums
* Links so you can either setup feeds to the various channels or optionally receive emails when new content is posted to the channels. Private messages will still be available so you can contact merchants directly to discuss their products. Since the forums have moved to a new platform, your participation ranking will be reset to 0* Advertising banners will no longer be displayed in forums.

Here are a few features that will be missing at the initial launch. We know these are important to you and necessary, and we will add them as soon as we can.

* Xstreet SL profiles will no longer be available, but you will have the ability to link to your Second Life web profile. On the web profile you will be able to include an image, add a tag and/or add a text only signature. You can view profiles by clicking on the profile link next to an individual's post.
* Ability to post links in signatures
* Paging options for long threads
* Polls
* Uploading images to posts
* The Shopping Forums link will continue to go to the archived forums, with a big message on where the new ones are. We will fix this by early October and direct all traffic to Shopping Forums to the new Forums.

There are also a few minor changes to XstreetSL.com to support this change.

* Continue the scrolling ticker display with latest content changes in the forums. The information will be shown from the new forums instead.
* Links back to the archived version of the forums. The archived forums will include links to the new forums.
* Any blog posts by Linden staff on the new forums will also appear on the XStreet home page as before.

We understand that it is difficult changing venues for discussions, but this change is part of the process of unifiying Xstreet with the rest of the Second Life.
We look forward to hearing your comments about these changes. Please join us for discussion here.

And here's the link to the discussion: https://www.xstreetsl.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=129364

Looks to me like there won't be a general discussion area; the new channel description has a "general commerce discussion area", not a "general discussion area".

If it is actually going to work like Second Life Answers, rather than like a forum, that's pretty sad.

I didn't use the slexchange forums much, but when I did, the software was tolerable.

It'll be sad to me if these forums, forums.secondlife.com, are converted to Second Life Answers style. It shouldn't be called a forum if that is how it will work.

Yes, this is exactly the current blog format, of which SL Answers is a subsection.

The only difference is that residents will be able to originate threads within certain specific Channels. As with the current blogs, there will be no overall view, no meaningful "New Posts"-like section. It has difficult-to-navigate "Channels" instead of a simply presented hierarchical forum-subforum structure.

If they do that to these forums, there will be no community left.

Yep, I have my account there but it has been used just a couple of times. Have stuck around here to help with Scripting Tips but as soon as the changeover, I am outtahere. Hope new people learn about SLU and start posting content creation questions there.

Sad day :(

That's sad to hear. I've learned a lot from you and others in the Scripting Tips forums as well as from many other knowledgeable residents in other sub forums.
