well, sometime names of avatars will actualy, and im not kidding, they will name them selves after current political events

"Recession Looming" im not kidding look that name up, its there, its a blank account, so i think i have rights to say it

/me shrugs. I made an alt called "Justify Darwin". When I saw the last name "Darwin" available, I just couldn't resist. Why? Well, considering the type of interactions I have with MOST newbies, it was sorta on my mind...

I dont know what the actual answer is.. I just know LLs response was at best...flaccid.

That's a very good way to put it, and now I know why we still haven't seen the promised blog entry...

...the Lindens are still waiting for their shipment of Lie-agra to come in to firm up their flaccid reasoning.

Bad names not effect me when buying as I probably not notice it when shopping.
Bad names when out and about and they open up chat or IM to me I'm not keen to respond, I'm not bad manored and do answer but close as soon as possible.

A thing that gets me thinking is when these people open their SL account they must have had some sort of experience with SL before and allready been prepared to use that name. So have they allready got another account and name in SL, I wonder. You know when you think about it you could speak to someone then later another but you not know it same person!
Is there anyway to spot additional names?
I'm worrying now, lol.

You choose your name in SL, so of course it will influence how I initially regard you. If someones makes a play on words when choosing their name, and it is lewd, how else am I suppose to view them? I don't always check a creators name before a purchase, so it wouldn't influence me in those cases.

Name doesn't matter to me at all when shopping.

When meeting people though, I generally take caution with people with a string of nonsensical numbers after their name.

Slight derailment - Right after reading this thread and your post in particular, Keira - my partner and I were out dancing at a new place we saw on another thread. I was telling him about this forum topic and especially the comment to take caution with people with the "number names." (I agree totally.)

Right about then, a guy with numbers after his name came in and started spewing some vulgarities in a club that, up until then, had been very pleasant.

Great Exhibit A there. ;)

Names of creators don't really affect me. I rarely know who created an item...I just don't really look...It doesn't seem to register. If I like the item I buy it, if not...I don't.
So when people start talking about the creators by name and how they just released a new item, I'm normally the one asking which store they are on about lol.

I try to give people a chance when chatting to them though. If I think the name is funny, I will say so.
However, I have a habit of using nicknames...I'm too lazy to type the full name lol. Thankfully most people are ok with nicknames (Lil and Fen come to mind...and you too Rha) but some people are really funny about it, so when first meeting them I try to use the full name. However, I do miss of numbers etc.
I have to laugh when someone with a name like Jackie35469831257874 comes in and I call her Jackie. She then proceeds to tell me off for not calling her by her full name... Like I could remember that many numbers! It just makes me giggle while apologising and typing out the numbers one by one....

But potentially offensive names rarely bother me.

The name is one of several indicators that show you a bit about who you are dealing with.

If the sim name of a location is strange, (for instance, "Mofo" would sound bad) you wonder if the person has taste. A Joe4773 Enzo name doesn't look very creative to start with. Add badly-done signs to that and you may wonder if the person has what we call attention to detail.

If the product gets complex, then the information you can read before and after you buy ends up mattering, too.

So, a good name can show, among other things, the type of person you deal with. An unimaginative and uncaring one or someone with creativity and attention to detail?

when you are shopping, and you see the creators name, if it is a rude or vulgar type name, or a name that seems to be rather like the old aol names (like John123456) or if it screams alt (whatever that means)

do you tend to pass on by and not shop there?

If someone had a name like Fooku Beebe (this name does not exist I just made it up) would you buy from them?

just curious as to how much pull and influence our avatar names have

Dildo Spritz still makes me giggle everytime I see her... I think ok, thats a fun girl. I don;t think its perverted.. well.. ; )

But no I do not usually let names influance who I speak to or don't.. But if I see someone with bigdick snooks... yeah I pass em by.. or sexybunny whatever the last name.. I don;t bother cause I know what they are after on SL and I am not after the same things...

As far as sim names go.. hell yeah they influance where I live as do the way teh sim itself looks, if I pop in and see a bunch of garbage.. no theme... flying boxes yuck Im out of there, and banlines.. If I see a polished SIM with a theme and like minded owners that's the place for me..

I have a pretty good notion just what "BigDickMarvin" is going to say to me before his typing animation even starts.

Is this the one where he holds his hands up in peace signs, shakes his head and mutters, "I'm not a crook!"...

Or am I thinking of another Dick?
