Rioko, You could keep your island plot and drop your Premium membership. Premium is not a requirement to own Private Island land. Or you could, as you suggest, give the land back to the owner and move to the mainland. Your Premium membership entitles you to buy up to 512 m2 without paying any tier on it. And if your husband objects to you spending $25 a month on entertainment for yourself...trade HIM in on a newer model. Eeeeesh. And you can add me to the list of people you can IM in game. I'm always glad to meet new friends.

From: Rioko Bamaisin Where do the real people hang out in SL? I found a couple of places, but one was not very welcoming to the "newbie". A lot seem to hang out at the infohubs. Each infohub seems to have its own group. There are even groups formed around the infohubs. Try the one in Violet, they seem to be pretty chatty.

I'd miss getting a paycheck though, lol. Not that it's much, but just the novelty of it all. Thanks!

Is Tiger Lily still going?
Someone took me dancing to a decent club, it was Argentinian and I can't speak Spanish but my friend translated.
Carribbean Breezes is generally a busy place.

From: poopmaster Oh cool places to hang out and meat people Bear DreamLodge Infohub Hey don't be crowding up Bear. I have had land there since 2005 and its nice and quiet. There is a little rabid euro dog in the hub spouting all sorts of nonsense. But his bark is worse than his bite.

I have found that the large, busy clubs are not the best places if you want to talk with people. I prefer smaller clubs where the lag is minimal and the people are friendly. So much that I opened such a club. We have events every night, and most of the attendees are regulars. We are to the point where we all know each other well, share some of our rl with each other, and always have a great time. We are all on each other's friends list and there is always someone to help. Here, you will find no camping, no dancers, no cages. We're there to have a good time, not to make money. We keep it PG-ish so that everyone is comfortable. We have a more mature group of people, although we do have a small contingent of young people.
As for the person with the unwanted land, why not donate it to an educator? School budgets are usually thin. I can help you find an educator, several in my friends list.

I've had the most interesting intelligent conversations at the library on Info Island. And though it's intelligent, its also a lot of fun - there is no restriction on what we'll end up talking about....I'm a librarian groupie..they are the best volunteers in SL.

I got dumped in the Bear info hub yesterday when I made a new alt, and was pretty floored at how chipper and friendly it seemed. It really put info hubs back on my list of places to visit wen I'm feeling social. My first avatar and Capella both got dumped into an area with absolutely no other people and it was a pretty boring introduction. Much preferred Bear ^.^

Sorry Rioko I misunderstood must been tired and misread. You don't really need land, sometimes you can even make a friend with someone who is generous and won't charge you. There are also sandboxes if you want to build though some really are awful with griefers and junk people leave. It gets so bad when I tried to go there I couldn't find a place to build at. Actually if you bought land when I started about 8 months or so you would paid same amount for land and tier. When I moved I lost a lot of money that I had invested in 15260m2 lot so I could move near friend on 11260m2 lot. I don't know what your islands policy are if you discontinue renting only you would know that. Do you have information somewhere about your rental agreement?

If you look under search->events->discussion you can usually find this or that discussion group as well, which can fill the odd hour or two.

Devilfish mall usually has guys hanging about (though we do get a good amount of women in) it's a mall aimed at the gay population but we generally get a good mix of gay, straight, bi and a few furries! There's nearly always someone to speak to as the mall is staffed. X on the Waterfront is my other favourite haunt in Secondlife, go for the events (usually 12pm SL time) get to know the regulars - there's a great community there. And err I have to say, I know many hate the place but I've never been to Rausch weapons sandbox and not had a conversation with somebody
