My first build was a polka dot stool. I uploaded the polka dot texture and then profile cut a torus to get a bent half circle, rotated it and sat on it. I built it on the steps at MCI not kowing what a sandbox was.

Ny first build that was really useful was a hair piece. I did not know what a posing stool was and I chased the hair all over the sandbox.

The planter has a lovely shape. Good job.

I build nearly everything I wear, plus I make plants and I bult my own house and the gates on my property. Building is a lot of fun.

Congrats, Bella!

I built a dining room set that I saw online once. Then I remembered that I'm homeless. I never built again.

I also made a couple shirts, and while I was impressed with myself ... the textures looked MUCH better before importing into SL. I never made a shirt again.

Way to go, Bella. Welcome to the world of builders.

I do not remember my first build, but I just got Sculpty Studio and am learning to make sculpties now, so I can certainly empathize at this point.

And to all the new builders out there, the only stupid question is the one that goes unasked.

Your planter looks very real!

My first build was a garden bench. I squinted at the curved part for quite a while before I discovered that I could change the repeats on the texture tab and make it lurvely. I still use that bench sometimes!

Now that you're addicted, take a spin through the Ivory Tower of Prims tutorials inworld. You can buzz quickly through the stations to find the bit that you are most interested in. Each station gives you a quick reference notecard, i don't know HOW many people I've given their "Linking Prims" notecard to.

Congrats Bella!

My first thing was a maple table.

I'm getting close to finishing my first house now.

(some leap, huh..from a table to a whole house?)

Building stuff can be a lot of fun. Hope to see more of your work. :)

Some folks have had great success with sculpties.. Me, I am cowering under tables because of them  - nah- they just require a bit more knowledge- u should proly get the hang of the reg ones first - just to get a feel for how it all works.

Ooh- and wait til u discover tiny prims!!! And there are many classes offered in SL that can be very helpful. And I'm no expert but if you ever want to come over and toss a few prims around, feel welcome.

I don't remember the first thing I built :(

I enjoy building, and creating clothing as well, I also enjoy many more aspects of SL

good job on the planter, next thing you know you will be building a house to go with the planter hehe

as for sculpts, I tried it, too confusing, so now I purchase sculpt maps to meet my needs, I view them as just another tool, no different than folks purchasing textures :)

enjoy your SL and do keep us posted on your ventures and builds :)

Thanks Dick, I do intend to eventually try them again. Once I spent about two hours with Sculpty Paint and made a stick. Grant you, it was an exceptional stick, as sticks go...

I just down loaded Blender today because something I read about building out side of SL- I figure that would be awesome- not sure what it entails or the frustration level I may be headed for... this was posted in another thread: http://www.newobjectivity.com/virarch/primblender.jsp but it will look at your link now also. Thank you.

What were other people's first 'creations'?

Technically it was a plywood box lol..
Ended up being a big box house which didnt look much different than the plywood cube i started with. Learned a lot though.

ok was talking to friends about builds and such and I had a memory lol.

I built my first pool I soooo was loving it. Went to get in and walked on it. now mind you didnt know any better so lowered the water level down so I can use my inner tube that I made was that way for how long till a friend pointed it out that you dont walk on water.

But in them days I was the happiest person lol.

Yes I did fix it but it kind of took the wow out of it.

LOL
