You'll all probably think "big wow". But I was shopping for a planter box, a biggish one and I couldn't find one. I thought, I'm going to make one. I have never made anything in my SL, so I am most impressed with myself. It even has dirt in it, so there

Congrats. I have built one thing - a snowman for the deck at the Hangout and I remember being so proud that I managed to do it.

Yayyy!
Fun isn't it? I've made a sculpty sofa (3 prim) and 2 hot tubs and a Christmas lolly and a pair of glowy flexi wings. Wootwoot! Congrats, Bella! What were other people's first 'creations'? |

I build a lot of rl furniture and in my youth built houses for a living, but I have yet to do anything worthwhile as far as building in sl. So congrats.
But a pic is in order. _____________________

You know I cant remember my very first build and that is sad.
But I built a wheelbarrow for my friend for Christmas and I was so gosh darn proud of myself. And she said she loved it lol so hope it was good. As she puts it it was primolicious lol. _____________________

My 1st build was a multi-level deck to connect the house parcel to the higher pool one. 18 prims, no sculpties, and dang right I was proud... until my roomie saw it and said "MORE decks! Just what we need!" (Our house had 8 or 9 already... we called it Deckasaurus Wrecks)

Congrats Bella! I'll warn you, building is addictive once you've started.
The first thing I built was a 2 prim side table. I forgot to texture the underside of the table top, but, though I still have it, I've never bothered to fix that. It makes me smile every time I look at the silly thing, flaws and all. _____________________

So now I've made a ceramic pot, I'm on fire!
Ok, so the dirt has a kind of hole in it like a donut and god knows how to join the two prims together so it moves as one whole thing.........but hey I'm having fun. |

My first build was a beach blanket than an inworld cousin totally walked me through. When I look back on it now, it's terrible work -- but anyting I build today, started with that. _____________________

So now I've made a ceramic pot, I'm on fire! Ok, so the dirt has a kind of hole in it like a donut and god knows how to join the two prims together so it moves as one whole thing.........but hey I'm having fun. It was a long time before I figured out how to link prims together too, I remember trying to move all the pieces one at a time, lol. To do it right click and edit one of the two prims, then hold the shift key down, click the 2nd prim so they are both selected, then go to the tools menu and choose Link (I think the shortcut is ctrl-l). The last prim you click on will become the root prim so in the case of a pot I would probably click on the dirt first to select it and then the pot, then link them. Welcome to the world of builidng, it is addictive as others have said, and can be a lot of fun. _____________________

Oh thank you so much Gabby, I never would have worked that one out lol I just discovered what happens when I used the sculpted thing, I am most excited by that. |

I did the same thing as you with my planter box, I moved the two prims seperately, I thought, this is going to be a pain in the butt when I want to move it. |

Thanks Mari, I kind thought you'd all say 'duh', but thanks for the words of encourgement, it's appreciated ![]() Oh, not at all! We all started somewhere, ya know? Heck, I thought I'd *never* build in SL. Now building is one of my passions in here. _____________________

Oh, not at all! We all started somewhere, ya know? Heck, I thought I'd *never* build in SL. Now building is one of my passions in here. I never though I'd build either. I have this lovely house and I have always wanted a big deck in the front of it.......so you can guess what my project is going to be. Who knew it would such a buzz ![]() |

Awesome Bella
congrats- As Mari said, it's a whole new SL once u start to build! Bec will attest, go find the Builders Exchange if you decide to keep building - lot's of friendly folks always willing to help out- they have been awesome to me and some great info in the builder forum here. First thing I built was also a planter- though I was not as ambitious as to put dirt in it! Keep it up! _____________________

Good for you Bella~!! I think my first build attempt was a vase.....it's a daunting thing when you haven't attempted it before....but watch out...it's addictive. I just graduated to putting together my own waterfall......but, I cheated, I used pre-made sculptie stones and water
Still..it's fun when you achieve something, isn't it~!! ![]() |

My first build was a bar. (what does that say about my priorities?)
http://www.flickr.com/photos/elischlegal/2427352647/ I later added my own stools that look better than the ones in the picture and a working tap that someone else made. |

Nice one Bella! It's quite a sense of achievement when you finally make something..
I remember putting stuff up for sale on SLX, thinking "I don't know if anyone will want these things" - and now my profits buy my groceries every week! Stick at it - you might surprise yourself... I did! |
