There are a few NCI tutorials I would like to go to, but they always either clash with the time I have to get dinner ready, or else are at two in the morning.
Someone told me that lecture notes are given out at the classes. If these are transferable, does anyone have the notes for Building: Basics, Scripting: Basics, and Clothing: Basics?
Alternatively, who at NCI should I contact to get these?

You can visit NCI Kuula >> http://slurl.com/secondlife/Kuula/73/160/28Ask around the crowd there. I don't personally have copies of the classes you're asking for. But, if you look at the calendar of NCI events, you'll see the avatar name of each instructor hosting the class. They all should be nice enough to toss you a copy if you IM each of them. (^_^) http://nci-sl.org/education/Schedule.pdfOtherwise, you can join the New Citizens Inc. group and ask in group chat... Someone will have a copy... They're all practically transfer/copy allowed. I really like that Kay has arrived in this forum. I don't remember any new-to-SL person asking so many questions here - and they are all good questions that other new people, and we not so new ones, can learn and pick up bits of info from.
If I didn't say it before, welcome to the forum, Kay.

[/off-topic] I agree lol. It's nice to actually see some newbie questions once in a while. Welcome Kay!

[/off-topic] Thanks, Phil. That's given me a boost. To be honest, I was wondering if I was posting too much, and it might get on people's nerves. But I'm having a lot of fun posting here, that's for sure!

[/off-topic] You just beat me to it, you Phil you! Kay also gives good names to her threads, so big points for that too. Kay, something that can also help is joining the Forum Cartel group. There is almost always someone online that you can call out to in group chat. There is also the Forum Cartel Hangout - I'm not inworld and can't search up the slurl.

I don't think I've ever been IM'd by a random Forum Cartel member, Kay. Even though it's a pretty large group. What you have to watch out for is the group chat. We're a very talky bunch.

Well I'll take a look, as both of you, Lindal and Seven, recommend the Forum Cartel. I'm not clear though: is it actually tied in with this forum?

kay. I'm in the forum cartel and as a group, would tell you that they are very informal and have a hangout and some freebies there too. It's a good place to hide away. I have never been randomly IM'd....oh they chat a lot, but just close the window. You can also have a hud which shows you at the bottom of the puter screen if any of cartel are online. It's useful, knowing someone smarter than me is available. Very newbie friendly bunch of guys and its like a who's who there sometimes. You know names you'll see nearly every day, but have never met.....it's like Hollywood gone weird.
On your question about tutorials, I volunteer as a helper at one of the public plazas and find that the session times are difficult for me being UK based. They are always at second life time which is -8hrs. Uk time for me. Yes they have cards and text, but its mostly voice, which is awkward at midnight in a quiet house. But we'll see how it goes.

This forum is run by Linden Lab, the same people who run Second Life. The Forum Cartel is a bunch of people, many of whom are active here, all ordinary users like you and me.

Lucky I just bought a pair of cheap headphones this morning, wasn't it?.

It is very much like conference IMing. The difference is that you don't know who's out there unless they type something. Group members can ignore group chat, and even turn it off. Some people do find it irritating - I love it and leave it on all the time, although I have left groups (shopping groups) that were way too chatty. When you're not online, group chat doesn't get saved or forwarded to your email.
