Its the end of March already. The Birthday party is in June. Let's get going already. A year to plan and only two months of real planning AGAIN. The resident organizer that bailed last year because of the child avatar ban is back but Marv sits with bated breath waiting for Linden Leadership. Anyone aware of any progress yet?

I don't know.
This new era of change may leave people feeling not so celebratory.

Haven't heard anything, and I should have been on the contact lists.
I don't think I will bother this time around. I spent a fair amount of time and effort last year, participated in both the official LL celebration and the Kids5B events, and even fought hard against the initial chaotic restrictions on child avatars. But the results, for me, just didn't seem at all worth the effort and time spent. Hardly any positive feedback, and very few visitors that I could tell.
Good luck to those who choose to do it this year. Maybe I'll visit, but I doubt I'll be an exhibitor.

I look at like the virtual annual groundhog day. Just want to see it pulled of right at least once before I die.

Let's rename it "SL's LAST Birthday Party" and do the decorations in black. Might as well hold the funeral while there is still a virtual world to hold it in.

Dood, come on, Its a tradition! I can't believe the LL Marketing Team is not using SL6B to over shadow this Grid cleansing bad press.
I have a bad feeling that someone will be announcing on the Blog that they will be canceling the event this year. Someone prove me wrong please.

Nobody is stopping anyone from creating what LL calls a fringe celebration.
People these days sound more like they will be attending a wake anyway.

Fast year indeed... I participated last year, but - for me - it has had no spin-off at all. I enjoyed the building and stuff, but in the end it was too much work. So I'll skip a year I guess. Still... it will be good to see what people will come up with.

I really enjoyed last years birthday celebration and from someone who doesn't build, I have a lot of admiration for the talent that was put into those wonderful builds. I saw vendors that I never heard of before which prompted me to visit their stores. Same with Winterfaire. As a result of visiting Winterfaire, I have built a wonderful partnership with a vendor and they are doing some customization work.
For those that are disenchanted, please don't be. Your work is greatly appreciated!!

so how will it be set up this year? PG stands in the center, Mature stands on the outer edges, Adult stands underground?

Well this ain't good. No mention of SL6B in the SL Wiki. Just archived stuff from years gone by. I guess the Linden forced to over see this thing may have locked himself in the bathroom - refusing to come out until he is reassigned.
If Linen Lab just breaks down and hired someone with some real experience organizing communities they wouldn't be 'firing' volunteers and banning groups from events. When they hire someone they always boast about their tech or financial skills. Not once have they boasted about someone that has actual urban planning or volunteer development skills.

I think I just changed my name to Cassandra - I mean, what's to celebrate after all the shenanigans of the past twelve months (with clearly more to come)?

I stayed out of it last year because even though I have nothing really against them and have some good friends who use and rp child av's I couldn't find it in myself to support them... that and it went from being a valid complaint to a whiny mob faster than I could support the valid complaint.
The above being said unless LL really changes things I think the real question is do enough people really want LL to have a celebration?
It seems that especially on their end but also on the resident end it just causes more grief than it's worth for anyone to go to that kind of effort especially since LL is never really appreciated for it as shown by last year's spectacle and the resident organizers get lumped in with the Lindens and get demonized themselves.
As I said, I didn't participate really in the conversation but I read all the posts on it and I didn't see a single thanks to the Lindens for taking their time and their effort to make this happen. Not a single post, not a single blog comment. I'm guilty of it myself but it really makes most of the residents look like bratty little kids, no offense of course meant to the people who roleplay bratty little kids, and if they haven't already it wouldn't surprise me and I wouldn't blame them if they stopped putting themselves out there like this if the residents don't appreciate it.

Would residents running "fringe events" be allowed to use "SL" or "Second Life" in their event names?

No social alcohol references lol From: someone The SL6B FAQ. Q. What is the Event Maturity Rating?
A. The Second Life 6th Birthday Celebration takes place on the main Second Life Grid and is a PG event for Adults 18 years and older. The definition of PG within Second Life can be found here.
The current definition is:
"A Region may be designated PG so long as it does not advertise or make available any content that is suggestive of any (even mildly) sexual or violent themes, or references to social drug or alcohol usage."

From: Lord Sullivan No social alcohol references lol The event will clarify the lower edge of Mature at least. "Linden Lab and the Resident Organizers reserve the right to determine when an edge case is no longer PG." From: Blog Q. What is the Event Maturity Rating?

The current definition is:
"A Region may be designated PG so long as it does not advertise or make available any content that is suggestive of any (even mildly) sexual or violent themes, or references to social drug or alcohol usage."
This event's rating means the following are in effect throughout the event. This applies across the spectrum, from streaming media, avatar representation, exhibitor material and to conduct while in attendance or exhibiting.
* No depictions or incidents of violence or gore. * No depictions or incidents portraying sexual activity or sexual suggestion. * No depictions or incidents explicitly advocating or suggesting drug or alcohol use. * No nudity.
Linden Lab and the Resident Organizers reserve the right to determine when an edge case is no longer PG.
I remember seeing bondage crosses at the last Birthday. Gor was represented too - mildly suggestive of sex and violence? I think there was the odd pub or bar.

"Linden Lab and the Resident Organizers reserve the right to determine when an edge case is no longer PG."
Dependent on the Linden on duty and we all know that it can change at the drop of a hat as the Gteam are not renown for their sound judgments in some cases From: someone I remember seeing bondage crosses at the last Birthday. Gor was represented too - mildly suggestive of sex and violence? I think there was the odd pub or bar.
BDSM and Gor are all banned words at the moment so it will be interesting how LL interprets it all as if they let it go then they have said Yes it is OK in many ways. Although judging by this thread so far I doubt a lot will attend this year. Just my opinion though

I am surprised that no-one has suggested an adult boycott of the "celebrations".
