I have been slowly building up a collection of accessories I have built in sl.... mainly fort my own use and that of my friends, but I have been starting to think a little about selling them.

I guess my question to you is what do you look for in accessories (clthing accessories) in sl?? What is missing in sl??

I started it because i wanted to indivdualise my liook... so much off the clothes in sl look so similar to everything else... it was my way of standing out a little

I look for clothing accessories that match what I'm currently wearing. It's hard to mix say a satin ballgown with a spiky leather and chain belt. Take a look at the types of clothing styles out there and design with those in mind. It's good that you are already making things for you and your friends. That's the best way to start making things. Expand on what you have.

Quality and a reasonable price will always get my attention. Attention to detail is very important to many customers. Find your style and niche, don't try to satisfy everyone's taste, that is an impossibility.
Give careful consideration to your store/shop's appearance and layout. And don't be afraid to give it a fresh look every now and then. Too many just slap up some vendors, put a plant or two around and call it done. If you make your business location attractive and easy to move around in, customers will want to come back.

Make sure your permissions are set correctly. I have some items I've bought that I can't get the buy green purchase icon off of. I've been told that the permissions should have been set to modify. I'm sure others here on RA can confirm or correct this bit of information I was given.

Best wishes and luck on your new venture.

My guess would be that if your stuff is genuinely different to the vast mass of very similar stuff out there, you've already found your answer. There are so many identikit Avs and stores, someone selling something a little different is likely to be a success, even if it's not quite what someone would choose in an ideal world, just the chance to be different may well make them buy.

Of course, if you're really succesful, it will stop being different, and you'll lose your niche, but by then you'll have the momentum to keep going.

im always on the look out for a pair of button earrings, as opposed to the dangling variety. i did find a pair at Tickled Pink, but want a bit more variety in them. oh and non blingy full bright accessories are always nice!

But the third job, some call it, uh, "the show" or "the big dance," it's the profession that every linden aspires to.

I desperately want a pair of Chelsea boots that don't look like they should be pulling ocean liners into port.

JCS's Oslo boots are pretty close, but not quite (and are suede, not leather)
Redgrave do a pair of sculpted boots that look good, but not on my slender, skinny-jeaned frame - then, they look massive.

And I want more designers to incorporate more layers into their clothing.

Apart from that, everything is peachy.

I always buy modifiable accessories. No mod ones are a nightmare as they never fit right. I don't have the standard 7 foot tall model shape ;)

Copy is useful too as I often create outfits that I can just drag and drop on.

I know a lot of creators are now selling stuff no mod because they're worried about people ripping off their work, but if something's no mod I just don't buy it as from experience it'll either dwarf me or end up sinking into my flesh. Never a good look!

Oh yes, definitely more of the smaller non dangly earrings. And smaller hoops. There is definitely a dearth of "everyday" jewelry.

I agree with this for sure. . . . I won't buy something unless it has all layers with it.

Nothing worse than a chap forced to design himself a pair of high waisted underpants in an inevitably and unavoidably slightly different hue to the too-short shirt he wants to wear under a jacket without looking like a renegade from a particularly fey boy band.

LOL!!

Nothing like buying a great outfit to find it's under layers only and it will take off your tattoos.

Good One. It is amazing how much a difference it make, especially with mixing and matching outfits.

I have not been here long so maybe I just have not found the right places.

Stockings. Just simply hosiery with different shades. Knee high and thigh highs.

It seems like most of the clothes I find or either ball gowns or bimbo suits. Very little just common dresses. There is a difference between sexy and slutty after all. Stocking are the same way. I have a black pair and a white pair but they both came from a set with garter belt, merry widow and crotchless panties.

Hi Jacinda :)

A couple of recommendations for ya:

Stockings - No. 9 Nylons have allll kinds, including panty hose so you don't have that gap between the top of your thighs and short skirts. For the vintage look, 1-800-Bettie's has some nice stockings as well.

I totally agree with you on the sexy vs. slutty look. I prefer more modest, casual clothing and for awhile they were darned hard to find. Now I notice more designers are making that type of clothing.

I'm not in world so just trying to think of a few places off the top of my head: Industrielle has some great clothes - one side is 1940's-1950's vintage and the other has contemporary looks.

Rha! Designs just came out with a darling outfit that can be worn long or short (and the short look isn't the barely-covering-ones-cheeks look...it's fun and flirty without being slutty. It has two types of sleeves AND comes with matching shoes with seed pearls.

Today is the last day for the store Last Call - everything is marked to 100L. I saw a couple of nice professional outfits there that have great style.

Feel free to IM me in world and I can give some more suggestions to you.

No9 Nylons has a great line of "Classic" Stockings, and preen has some nice one's as well.
I got some very colorful thigh high's from a place called Lou LouI think as well. Blaze also has some nice Pantyhose. I have some others, but I can't remember where I got them. I can look them up later today. I found a really nice set of matching Bra, Panties and Thigh High's somehwere.

There is a great store named Sheer for stockings. Don't ask me how I know this.

All of the men I know on sl bemoan the fact that there are precious few good clothing/shoe/hair stores out there for men.

flexi hair that isn't huge or puffy

leg warmers that aren't like megaphones from top to bottom

no-bling jewelry

neko belts without blood items on them (who started THAT trend? ugh.)

and they would be correct, Shauna. Generally, the choice is Ned Flanders, gangsta, tortured emo or business suit. All seemingly designed for bodies that are 7ft tall with the muscle sliders straining under the load.

I'd like to think that if I wasn't completely cack-handed with anything I have to build/design, I'd save the male fashion world in SL. Sadly, then, it will have to remain safe from salvation.
