That said there will always be the occasional griefers that will attack just because you are gay or worse try to save your soul because gays are going to hell.
The second category can be great fun to mess with thier minds.

I have found that SL is for the most part VERY accepting of my partner and I. Honestly we have far less trouble here than we do in RL.

Actually I have encountered more homophobia on various SL forums than on the grid itself.

I am curious. I wonder if SL is regarded as a friendly and accepting environment to Gays. This is a serious question. I have far MORE gay friends in my real life than I know here - and often there is a kinda "nudge nudge wink wink" attitude to the gay community here which is so out of date in the real world. Comments please. Interesting! I am Bisexual in Rl and Sl too. I find it curiously interesting that there are so many supposed bi sexuals females running around, and when I flirt with girls who claims to be bisexual, I most often times find out she is not. Wow, was that a run on sentence! I think for the most part SL is welcoming of Homosexuals and Bisexuals, more so than furries and Goreans. Wow, are furries and goreans the new homosexuals? Sexuality is a social construct... Move on. _____________________

/me turns to his boyfriend and asks in astonishment, "There are gay people in SL?!?" LMAO...nice ...depends on what "circles" you hang out in Jig, I have found racist and homophobic "places" (meaning it's a predominant "vibe" there w/ slurs etc), but for the most part, most of the Grid seems pretty open on that subject, and I would think that has somethin' to do w/ the fact that open discrimination like that would fall under "broadly offensive", dunno for sure...but I think the risk of being banned has made a lot of the longer term Residents more open (at least in-world), so the folks who come and join see this Grid ain't exactly a "safe" place for boneheads ...even out of the Skinheads on SL I have run into very few that weren't Trad (traditional), Antifa (Anti Fascist) or "Redskins" (Communist) I would say you probably just need to cut a few ties and make some new ones with new people, like I've done a few times. _____________________

Was at some club with my partner/wife, dancing... someone asked in open chat, or commented on our "same sex" marriage. I said: "Well, we try not the have the same old sex ALL the time..." - went well

I imagine SL attracts those who are not comfortable in coming out in the real world, either because of fear, or because of their life circumstances (marriage, children, etc) makes the decision less than straight forward. It will also attract those who are simply curious. As for whether SL is more accepting, well I think it really depends which part of the world you live in. QFT. If anything I probably am more conservative *in* SL. LOL. (For those who don't know me, I'm not consevative at all in SL ...) I don't see any massively different ratios re gay people. I see a lot more "lesbians" than reality but then that's the internet in general given that girls will be girls and a lot of the time the boys will be girls too. What I find massively more accepting is furries ... quote of the day from the other day was "The internet is leaking" - and when I asked why I got told about an angry looking emo kid in Neko gear and face paint, swigging beer in the street. This is a lot funnier if you know the place where I live which isn't exactly a hive of unconventionality ... I did go outside to see but said kitty had gone (or possibly someone needs to stop taking drugs). _____________________

I like swing music, fat fendered Fords, Tattoo's, diners and P-51 Mustangs.
Does that mean I'm stuck in the '40's? I certainly hope so! So stop descriminating against those of us who do not think that Starbucks is the best cup of Joe on the planet! |

This is the metaverse. People/animals/fairytale critters/robots/younameit have sex all the time and nobody cares who does what with who/what. Anyone who's been in SL more than 2 months has already achieved a zen-like state of "meh...whatever." LOL Isablan, well said. Seems to me that sexuality is much more fluid in SL. The people I have met are somewhere in between that "exclusively straight ----- exclusively gay" place. Everybody seems to flirt with everybody and it's just good fun. Seems to be part of our SL culture. As Desmond mentioned, I have been flirted with/propositioned by female avis who say they are straight (?) which is interesting. Assuming they are RL females, I guess it's because SL provides a safe place to explore things we're curious about. This would include various other lifestyles represented in SL too. I'm openly gay in RL and have been the whole of my life, though because of my appearance (very fem) I often get comments like, "oh come on, you are NOT gay". *sigh* Anyway, that's a thread for a different forum. LOL But oddly enough my Avi only recently came out in SL over the last few months. I'm not sure why. But, I have noticed as someone else mentioned that a lot of the women who claim to be bisexual soon turn out not to be. Strange that. *shrugs* Not sure what I'm trying to say other than I have found SL to be generally quite accepting - much more of me than of Goreans and Furries. At least that's my experience. _____________________

LOL . I think depending on where you live that even in the Gay and Lesbian scene there is set ideas of what a gay man or lesbian looks like. It is even more so for lesbians in certain parts of USA, versus other places like if you're living a Aussie active in the Lesbian scene. there I gathered this information from different internet Lesbian Friends who are part of different places and my real life relationship from someone who is from another part of country who has been Gay all his life too. Sadly close-mindedness and prejudice isn't just for heterosexuals. Within SL I am more focused on creating and trying to escape all that drama personally. _____________________

You know, I toyed with creating a gay male alt (I'm a straight female) because all of my gay male friends always felt I was a gay man trapped in a women's body lol. I just haven't gotten around to it, or haven't felt a burning need to do so, but probably would enjoy the experience quite a lot. God knows I've had enough experience running around with all of them to probably play it right ![]() BTW, for sure, I'm after Bradley or Avion if I ever do! That's very cute, Elora. Thanks ![]() Even though I'm taken, my very understanding SL boyfriend does allow me to play around with my alts. After all, the pool boy and maintenance man are part of the business model in a gay hotel. Who can argue with what the spreadsheet tells me I must do? |

I have found that being gay, lesbian, bi, is more common in sl. I, myself, am Bi...and Neko....inworld..And bi in rl (cant find the attachment point for my ears and tail in rl )
Tolerance is very wide spread inworld from what i am seen myself. It is sad that Furries seem to be the ones least tolerated. They soo cute....anyway... I am happy to see that so many people have found a way to truly express themselves.. Tis a wild world we live in, in sl or rl... Love and Light |

It seems to me that SL is better in acceptance of homosexuality than RL, but just like Rl, there is a big difference in acceptance depending on where you live and who you associate with. I like it. My theory in RL has always been that if it doesn't hurt other people, I should ignore it. Homosexuality has no impact on me at all. I can't for the life of me see how it hurts anyone else. Therefore it falls under my rule of "live and let live". Besides, I don't want gay people hating me because I'm straight.
I'm glad people of all genders and persuasions can be comfortable in SL. It seems to me that if anyone catches a lot of grief, it's women, straight, gay or otherwise, with all the idiots chasing them around saying, "you make me sexxytim nows!" and waggling their prim penises in their face. It's disturbing. Makes me embarrassed to be a guy sometimes. I feel like I have to say, "Yeah, I'm a guy, but I'm not one of THOSE guys. I'm different, I swear." _____________________
